The Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR Camera is designed with the pro shooter in mind, as evidenced by its tough magnesium alloy body, large 3.2" LCD, the Intelligent Viewfinder, and of course the 18.1Mp CMOS sensor, among other professional features. If you're looking for a tough rig that knows what a photographer wants and needs, then Canon answers the call with this impressive offering.
The EOS-1D X was built to stand up to the grind of daily shooting. In addition to its large pixel size - for outstanding still images and 1920 x 1080 video - the camera provides the serious photographer with a generous ergonomic design, along with smart layout of the controls. Dual CF card slots ensure that every shot can be captured, while the Gigabit Ethernet terminal and the WFT-E6A Wireless File Transmitter and the GPS connection provide quick connectivity for file sharing on the fly. What's more, the magnesium alloy body is dust and weather resistant, and features shutter durability of up to 14 fps for up to 400,000 cycles - allowing you to do your job without hesitation, or worry.
The EOS-1D X's 18.1Mp CMOS sensor is a full 24 x 36mm frame sensor, capturing 5184 x 3456 images. That translates into high-quality, JPEG and RAW images, to impress even the most demanding shooters. The camera also provides 14-bit processing and a standard ISO range of 100-51200, with expanded sensitivities of 50 to 102400 and 204800. All of this is made possible by the camera's Dual DIGIC 5+ Image Processors, which enable a 17x faster processing speeds and greater noise reduction, among other duties.
When it comes to auto focus, the 61-Point High Density Reticular AF ensures fast, accurate image capture thanks to its Offset Array Sensor. With a multitude of ways in which to enable AF you can quickly access your desired point selection for your exact situation. Another tool for dead-on images is the EOS iSA (Intelligent Subject Analysis System). This sensor has 252 zones general metering and 35 zones for low-light metering. By incorporating face and color recognition data the system is stable even under rapidly changing lighting conditions. In addition, the E-TTL flash metering benefits from these improvements as well.
Like most all pro DSLRs these days, the EOS-1D X provides you with 1920 x 1080 HD video capture. The camera offers both ALL-I and IPB compression, supports H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile, and automatically splits files greater than 4GB for extended recording up to 29:59 minutes without interruption. The camera also offers up Live View, a 64-step volume control, a sound recording level meter, and a Quick Control Dial which allows for silent adjustments - using the dial's touch pad - during shooting.
The EOS-1D X has a dedicated AF menu tab, so AF can be controlled without having to go through custom function menus. It also has 6 AF point selection methods (Spot, Single Point, Single + Adjacent 4 Points, Single + Adjacent 8 Points, Zone Selection, and Automatic AF Point Selection), plus a dedicated AF configuration tool for control of AI Servo AF III tracking parameters (tracking sensitivity, acceleration/deceleration tracking, and AF point auto switching).
The EOS-1D X uses the 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor to aid the AF system in Automatic Point Selection. This dramatically increases the tracking performance for subjects that were previously unpredictable to follow, such as fast-moving or flying subjects. EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF recognizes the subject based on face and color detection from the AE system, and tracks it using AF points. The EOS iSA (Intelligent Subject Analysis) System incorporates color recognition and Face Detection for proper exposure. Specific parameters can be adjusted and refined and saved in the AF menu for later use
Thanks to a more resilient design, shutter lag with the EOS-1D X is reduced to 55ms (down even further to 36ms via custom function). A redesigned mirror system, featuring a Quad Active Mirror Stopper, uses more effective material to absorb impact when moving up and down not only aids in speedy shot-to-shot times, but the reduced mirror vibration provides more stable shots at all times
During shooting, the EOS-1D X's dedicated Quick Control button enables speedy changes of nearly every shooting parameter with the touch of a button. During playback, pressing the Quick Control button enables the photographer to protect images, rotate, rate, resize, view highlight alert, AF point and much more. Plus, with the EOS-1D X's new Multi Function Lock, the Main Dial, Quick Control Dial and Multi-Controller can all be locked, individually or together.
The EOS-1D X's Graphic User Interface shows improvements as well. The menu structure has been redesigned so that frequently used functions previously buried in the menu hierarchy are brought to the front. Operations previously assigned to buttons, controls, menus and custom functions have been consolidated for quick access in the menu, ensuring the photographer can concentrate on composing and shooting images
The GPS Receiver GP-E1 attaches to the EOS-1D X, offering the same dust and water-resistant protection as the camera body itself, features its own power supply and is always ready to append location data to images. It records latitude, longitude, elevation and has a GPS Time Sync Function that synchronizes the camera clock with a satellite and features an electronic compass that records the camera's orientation when shooting
Post processing, in-camera, is both quick and easy with the EOS-1D X. It offers in-camera RAW processing with image correction like white balance, brightness, picture style and more, as well as image resizing with JPEG images. Additionally, the EOS-1D X features Expanded Quick Control functions during playback like Image protect, image rotate, rating, resize, highlight alert, AF point and image jump, meaning a streamlined workflow can begin in the field

Well having the 5d mark ii I needed more fps since I shoot a fair amount of sports. This investment was worth it more then I could have imagined. I didnt think there would be much difference in picture quality between the 5d and the 1dx, just thought I was buying for speed. But I was wrong. The images are a fair amount richer in color. If your on the fence you should get the 1dx. You will not be disappointed.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
I am a photographer at specializes in industrial photography and I generally work in a very hostile environment so the equipment I use needs to be robust and dependable. I had the opportunity to update my camera and lens so I evaluated the Nikon D4 and the Canon 1D X. I have used both systems in my career and both have served me well.
My first choice was the D4 and I spent several days shooting the camera in a typical work environment and it worked as expected with no issues, but paging through menus in poor light made some shots challenging even when using per-set shooting modes. The feel of the camera was comfortable and the quality of the images was as expected.
I then received the Canon 1D X and again I subjected the camera to a typical shooting session which includes several different lighting conditions, heat, airborne dirt and mist. The Canon preformed as expected with a slight advantage towards ease of use and a bit more accurate focusing in lower light. The determining factors in choosing the Canon over the Nikon was durability ease of use, and low light focusing.
Both Nikon and Canon produce excellent cameras and lens. You cannot go wrong with either one. It comes down to individual needs, past experience and work environment.
I wish to thank B&H Photo's excellent customer service team for all their assistance. When you are spending you hard earned money you what them behind you. They are the best!

The only thing doesn't do is make coffee. I have had the 20d, 50d, 5d, mark2, mark4 and the mark 5 iii.
I've only had it a week and I'm slowly figuring it out. The few jobs I've done with it have really impressed me.
Personally it seems that the gear is getting more expensive but after getting to use it from CPS I knew I HAD to have one.
I'm very happy with it.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
Excellent camera. Period. I stepped up from the 1D MK IV. Which in and of itself was no slouch except in the AF department. On average in Servo, I was geting 6-7 tack sharp photos in a 10 shot burst when shooting sports with the MK IV. With the X I am getting 10-11 in a 12 shot burst. And the other 1-2 are still usable...just need to be sharpened in post.
Not to mention the usable ISO range is out of this world. I just used it for the first wedding of the season and I was blown away. I love the fact that I can shoot at 6400-8000 in the reception hall. This now allows me to use my 24-105 for the entire reception.
People complain about the weigh. BUT, HELLO, it's a pro series DSLR. What do you expect? Want a lighter camera? Go with a 5D III. Still a great rig at 1/2 the weight roughly.
People will also complain about the price, but again, it's a pro series DSLR with full HD video capability. Would you rather have them price it at 3K? Then have every soccer mom from here to California on the sidelines shooting 12 FPS?
The only con I can find is that I'd like a little more battery life. But that is certainly not a deal breaker.

I've been a newspaper/magazine photojournalist for 33 years, but still had to swallow hard before splurging on this beast.
I hadn't yet exhausted what I could get from my 7D, and have kept the body for its 1.6 reach and when I need a spot flash, but figured after this long shooting -- and loving it more, not less, every year -- I should see what I could do if I tried the best.
The 1DX is astonishing. Its high speed, low-light capacity, auto focus and beauty of its full-frame images are like nothing I've seen before. You don't know what you're missing until you've had it. Now I can't have enough, it seems.
After 10 days and maybe 800 actuations, I scarcely have scratched the surface of what this camera can do. I can learn as I go and look forward to many more discoveries..
There is no perfect camera or photographer. The 1DX lifts my limits and pushes my possibilities.
Every image it renders is a payback on my investment. And I'm just getting started on it.
Thanks to B&H for helping me choose and acquire this tranforming machine.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
I am a long time photo enthusiast (30+ years) with a variety of photographic interests. I shoot everything from family, kids sports, some high school sports, and a few paid event and portrait jobs everynowandthen. I have used for some time now a 1D Mark IV and just recently purchased a 1Dx. As I am not a professional, it took some financial planning to purchase my 1Dx. I believe it is the best all around camera I have ever used. I said that about my 1D4 as well, and still love that camera. The 1Dx separates itself in low light performance. I usually shoot raw, and in my opinion, I think the 1Dx has at least a 1-1.5 stop advantage over the 1D4 in low light. Shadow noise/detail are where this difference is most visible. It should be noted that coming from a long-time B&W film background, digital noise does not really bother me. I am fairly tolerant. In many cases, I actually like a little grit to my images. Each to his own.
Even though the 1Dx has a simplified focus optimizaiton menu compared to the 1D4, the 1Dx is a still a complex tool. It is a must to read and familiarize oneself with the menu. It takes practice to assume some confidence in the camera settings, but once they are dialed in, any mistakes are mine as opposed to my equipment, in my humble opinion. In addition, I find the button layout a little less intuitive than the 1D4, especially with image review/zoom options. I have to think about the differences when I switch back and forth with the bodies.
Was it worth the money? The camera is expensive, but it does perform. I have to say that I would do it again. It's a really nice body, and I think Canon hit a home run.

I've used this camera for just over 6 months and love it. I just wished I had more time to go through all the different settings to understand them - when is someone going to publish a book about the 1Dx?
I photograph many different subject matter, fromevents to portraits to sport to wildlife and the one thing that blows me away is the autofocus capabilities. If you want to see it in action try shooting a swallow in flight at sunset!!!
I started to doubt Canon's ability to compete in the professional camera side, but with this camera and a few of their other recent products, it shows that Canon are still very much in the game.

My name is Ari and I am an award-winning professional wildlife photographer. You can find my work online. My specialty is avian in flight photography using all-time handhold super-telephoto technique. AF and high ISO are cornerstones of my work and I have to report the EOS 1DX is the most capable camera body from Canon to date. It is made for speed and AF performance, meeting the requirements of working pros who expect the best in AF and IQ.Servo drive speed is very fast with EF 600mm f/4 MK II as well as EF 500mm f/4 MKII even with a 2X extender III attached.I have produced fine-art quality prints at ISO 6400.

My passion is wildlife photo-shoots particularly "action" sequences. I needed a camera that could keep up with what I shoot and how I shoot and This camera does the best job so far. My missed shots were cut down by at least half. It is pricey nevertheless I am happy with this critter and hope to enjoy it for years to come.

Doesn't get much better than the body!! After years of using the 1Dmark II, it's nice to see my 600mm full-frame! Camera is fast as they come and the busy blinking red light that was on so much with my old camera hasn't come on yet. I don't think you can bog down this camera regardless of how you shoot.

Ive owned this camera for a few weeks now and have shot several High School Basketball games. All I can say is WOW, the auto focus is awesome. Dark jersey, dark gyms, no problem. I've been using a 1DMKIV and this one blows it away. The ISO is amazing, I've shot at 8000-10000 ISO and the noise is very usable, hardly noticeable. If you can get past the price tag you will not regret the upgrade. Its the best canon has to offer.

This is an amazing machine... everyone already knows this, I have a 5D Mark III and wanted a second body after selling my 7d... ordered a used 1d Mark IV and although an amazing camera... I wasnt familiar with the menus etc. The 1dx is JUST like the Mark III as far as set up... the X has more customization of course but it is easy to jump from the X to the Mark III... LOVE THIS THING!
