Comments about Manfrotto MVH502A Fluid Head and 535 CF Tripod System with Carrying Bag:

+overall, a solid set of legs. lightweight for the size, plenty heavy for a large DLSR (5DM3) but not overly big (like the "crutch" style legs)
+MVH502A fluid head is a good value for the price. Adjustable drag on pan and tilt; hard to find at this price.
+Adjusts plenty high and plenty low
-Description states "illuminated bubble level". There is no back light, it simply has a florescent-like glow background. Not easy to see in the dark without supplemental light
-MVH502A tilt drag has a strange and disconcerting aspect of making a "crunching" sound when releasing tension. You can search for this and see/hear this in action by looking around the web/you tube. It seems like it is air bubbles being released; definitely is audible.
+/- In case anyone else is curious, the half-ball base of the MVH502A is not detachable (I tried), like some previous Manfrotto models. I was hoping to find a single fluid head that I could use later with a slider or other 3/8 flat base attachment. Looks like I'll need to purchase a separate fluid head with flat base or find another solution (like a std. ball head with Manfrotto 520BALLSH)

Comments about Manfrotto MVH502A Fluid Head and 535 CF Tripod System with Carrying Bag:

I got this to use as a reasonably priced video tripod that was light enough to carry up a mountain and versatile and stable enough to set on various terrains. On the one hand the legs were even sturdier than I imagined, capable of holding far more weight than the head supports, but it's also less stable than other carbon fiber legs I've used. I hate dealing with spreaders but I find myself wanting one when dealing with these sticks at times. The three stop points for the legs are perfect and really allow a versatility of shooting positions (getting practically as low as a high-hat) but with the standard upright position I find the legs can work their way inward and off balance if I have the legs at different heights/ haven't leveled with the legs in the first place. This tends to only happen in odd positions and with a lot of shuffling around, but essentially means having to level with the legs which takes time and defeats the purpose of the ball head. I've also found the quick release tightening screw a bit finicky. All in all these are minor issues that I will probably be able to fix with a wrench and a screwdriver and the tripod has proven very capable for the cost and easy to take around for off the beaten path shoots.

Comments about Manfrotto MVH502A Fluid Head and 535 CF Tripod System with Carrying Bag:

I purchased this tripod specifically to use with my GH3 and boy does it do the job. Although there were less expensive tripods out there, I couldn't gamble with a poor tripod head and legs that would give me unstable video. This tripod has three great attributes. The first is that the 502 head gives you super fluid pans and tilts. It also gives you the ability to adjust the drag which is great. The second is its ability to give you level shots with the 75mm bowl leveler even if the legs are on an uneven surface. The third is it's lightweight. You can't go wrong with this tripod!!

Comments about Manfrotto MVH502A Fluid Head and 535 CF Tripod System with Carrying Bag:

I had been putting off purchasing a video tripod and fluid head system for HDSLR for a while, mostly because I wanted to try and find the best bang/buck (I am, after all, only a serious amateur) and I didn't have a lot of money to spend (again, amateur). I knew I wanted to buy Manfrotto because I've been using older Manfrotto sticks and head for photo, It's quality stuff and I'm familiar with the brand. The carbon fiber sticks are great. Lightweight and strong! What more could you ask for? The 502 head is super fluid. I was considering the 504 head, figuring I would be adding a rig to my HDSLR system, and possibly a slider in the future. However, I held off and went with the 502. If I need to upgrade down the road, so be it! I'm able to achieve some wonderful pan/tilt shots and it really adds another level of production value. I would definitely recommend a system with a half-bowl, no less than 75mm. It's so quick and easy to level off without having to adjust the sticks. My first time using the system was in Colorado. I play guitar and sing harmonies (and document our travels) in a touring band and we flew out to Colorado for a week-long tour. I was able to fit the tripod and head (separated) in a dedicated suitcase and it survived the flight! Not that I was nervous about anything getting broken, but it was nice to open a suitcase with everything still intact. The landscape in Colorado is simply breathtaking and as it was my first time in Colorado I wanted to grab as much footage as possible. I couldn't be more happy with this system. The sticks work great in all terrain, and the head is the perfect compliment for these CF sticks! Also, the carrying bag that is included is NOT padded. It's not a deal-breaker for me as I'm careful when transporting my gear. Just wanted to clarify.

Great solid tripod and quite tall. It also spreads down quite low so also useful to shoot quite low to the ground.

I bought this combo for a DSLR and the legs are a bit overkill for it IMO but they are very sturdy and strong.

Not the lightest tripod out there so keep that in mind.

I recently acquired this tripod to replace a much heavier tripod I was using with my Ex-3...This bad boy is about 1/7 the weight and can pan and tilt with the best of them! I usually have to move around a lot to get the shots I need, having a light weight, reliable tripod along for the ride assures me some peace of mind.
