Although not the "PRO" version, this lightweight lens turns out to be surprisingly good, almost like the unsung hero in the bag. I have mainly used it outdoors, granted, which supplies good and great light. With the great results, I come away thinking I got a steal of a deal on a very useful lens. I used it indoors at a swim meet once, and I thought I could have used the aperture on the PRO version because I wasn't getting shutter speeds I liked, but it worked okay there too. It was a bust, only because swimming races don't lend well to stills photography anyway, so even with the PRO lens, I would have had a bunch of boring shots to throw away. The shots that turned out well, I used the 45mm f1.8 lens to shoot portrait type images. The races, nah.

The screw heads that hold the flimsy mount ring are too small and pull right through the plastic with moderate torque, which is what happened to me. They could have solved this with some [$]cent titanium washers, but overall it's a very poor design and they charge[$]repair costs to further capitalize on their design faux pas.

Comments about Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 R Lens (Black):

Two days in and I am impressed with this lens on my Pocket cinema camera. First off, it is sharp. Did not expect that from a $ (on sale) lens. No lens creep is a major plus. Haven't pixel peeped and probably won't, so I'm not sure about CA's. Feels cheap, plastic mount. Don't care about that either. I also have the panasonic 14-45 and I can clearly see the difference in sharpness. Now I have to get a new wide lens to match the sharpness of the olympus. Also nice bokeh around 100mm.

Know that you get what you pay for. a lot of plastic, but the glass is clean and sharp. Nice range and good shallow DOF even at f5.6 when zoomed to 150mm (300mm = to FX or 35mm film). minimum focus is far away however this doesn't say anything about macro. A filter set can help close that gap. Take & Talk Pics

I admit it. I purchased this lens going by the reviews and had my doubts. Even when I got it out of the box I thought what a mistake I made. Wow, what a surprise I had when I snapped a few pictures. The pictures were surprisingly good. I don't know how it does it, but the reviews are correct. This for the price is a must lens and I am glad I took the advice.

It is small and very light.....great for traveling.
It is not super sharp, but more than adequate for smaller prints or internet photos. although I think you could get a very nice 8x10 or 11x14 inch prints.

Comments about Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 R Lens (Black):

I tend to rate items in relation to their cost. It would be silly to expect this lens to be in the same category as one 10 times the price; yet no professional lens is 10 times the value of a good albeit slower lens such as this. By that measure, I may rank a consumer lens higher than a professional lens simply because of value. Others may simply rank by quality, indifferent to cost.
I think cost/utility a better way to rank, in that one would usually know what type of lens one is researching (consumer, mid-range, professional; etc.)
At slightly over $100 (on sale) this is a great lens. It is moderately sharp open wide and sharp stepped down; the higher end suffering a bit. This is true of most zooms, especially inexpensive ones. It is, however, a great walk around consumer lens which is well worth the price. A good buy!

The lens body may look and feel cheap because it is made of plastic (doesn't make me want to try and test its durability) but the quality of the internal glass is excellent for the price. Obviously the image quality is not as good as most of the prime lenses or the pro lenses but it's hard to ask for more at this price.

I normally stick with prime lenses, but have missed having a telephoto. For the price, this lens is impressively sharp and has good contrast. At its best outdoors in daylight, using a monopod or tripod to steady it. Using it on my OM-D EM-5. As other reviews stated, it is plastic, but it adjusts smoothly enough and does not creep. The upside of the plastic is its a very lightweight lens. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to add a telephoto without spending a lot, and primarily plans to use it outdoors.

For what it is, namely an inexpensive zoom telephoto lens, this is a very good choice for the Olympus OM-D series. It is a great supplement to the kit lens (extends your range into the telephoto), but don't forget to get a nice fast prime lens as well.

Very light and inexpensive lens with pretty good sharpness.

I bought this lens because I needed some reach when I am walking in the park and the kids are playing football or basketball I can zoom in on them without disturbing them. This lens is great for what I need it for.
