I purchased this product to use for presentations (workshops, small group settings, etc.), and needed something that could project in a well-lit room, but was also portable enough to not weigh me down. It comes loaded with a lot of features, such as the iPod/iPad/iPhone dock, which is great, but probably best for in-home use. I was hoping to show Keynote presentations from my iPad using the dock, but keynote forces the iPad to use landscape orientation, and the dock is for vertical only, so you can't really operate the iPad too well.
It would be nice if the projector was smaller or weighed less, especially if you want to travel with it a lot. But, in order to get the right amount of lumens for a bright room, you have to go with a larger projector.
For the home theater folks, this projector is an excellent choice. For the presenter on the go, it's okay, but there may be better options out there or forthcoming.

I bought this product mainly to use for presentations of videos and slideshows from an iPad or iPhone. For the most part it does this well. I wish that I could go through the photo library on my iPad without having to use the slideshow feature, because sometimes it's nice to pause a little longer on one photo. You can do this if you're viewing photos off of a USB drive. The logo capture feature is a nice idea but limits you to a 400 x 300 px capture size and you can't resize the photo within the capture screen. I did watch a movie from iTunes and it was great. I do wish the projector itself had an audio out so that I could attach external speakers to it rather than running an audio out cable from my iPad which I haven't tried yet but is a little awkward even if it does work. Overall I like it and I think it will be a good tool and a fun way to do movie night.

Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
It's a very nice and obviously portable unit from Epson for the money, and very easy setup with both the iPad and A/V inputs. The clarity was better than I expected and it was very easy to 'true' the image. The sound was very good with the built-ins and the online interface was very intuitive, so much so that the printed quick start installation was hardly needed. I'm very pleased with what Epson has offered for the price.

Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
We use the projector for presentations from a laptops and IPads and it works great. The IPad dock makes it easy to play videos and music.
Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
It's too bad there is no convenient solution for iphone5 use. Technical support is clueless when it comes to the Lightning port on the new Apple iPhone5. I purchased a 30-pin to Lightning adaptor from Apple. It simply allows users to connect with all their previous accessories. When I placed my phone on the dock with the adaptor, the Epson recognizes that there is an iPod device attached, but it does not project what is displayed on my iPhone5. I've heard of a convoluted workaround using an HDMI cable & an additional adaptor. With all of that, I may as well purchase a different product with direct support for the latest iPhone devices. Or, at the very least, Epson should release a "software patch" or an App that will make this compatible.
Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
Epson does not and will not offer support or the docking hardware for iPhone 5 (or further releases). Buyer beware.

Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
I use the MegaPlex MG-850HD in my living room to display HDTV on a large blank wall from a table about 12 feet away. The picture is excellent. It's very bright even when the lights are on. The adjustment for focus is very good. I am quite pleased. I do not use the integrated sound. Rather I hook the audio from my cable box to good desktop speakers.

Our local camera club was in need of a new projector to show photos for judging. A visiting guest speaker happened to have this one and showed us how useful it could be. We are just getting used to using it and haven't found anything about it that's "not so great."

This is the first projector I own. I have used several ones temporary and so far I like this one very much. I use it to setup temporal "family theater". The image quality is really good and the sound is decent. There is all standard connections so this is quite easy to setup and portable. I have try, for fun, the iphone/ipad dock but it seems quite slow (if you have a lot of images).

Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
I bought this projector to use for a wedding ceremony to project iMovies and photos. It works great though for big games, movies, and gaming off the wall at home. I have it projecting at around 150 inch and it looks amazing even against a light yellow paint. No issues so far.
Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
After reading ecstatic reviews on this projector I decided to get it with Epson's money-back assurance. My main worry was that the picture would be disappointing when judged against my excellent 46inch Sony LCD. Well, it turns out that the LCD still wins (obviously) but the Epson runs it a very decent second while providing the large-screen movie experience I wanted. It is useable in "normal" light and VERY nice at night: bright, sharp. I also purchased an Epson screen -- a necessity with projectors, I think. I did have one glitch in getting it up & running with my system. When I tried to connect it directly via HDMI to my AT&T cable-box/DVR it refused to play sound on HD material. Regular video was fine, but HD audio came across as a roar. Calls to support yielded suggestions and I finally tracked down the problem to direct connections to the AT&T box; when I routed the HDMI signal via my receiver (which is what I really should have done, so the Epson would provide the picture and my home speakers the sound) everything was perfect. The projector controls are easy and logical and the overall experience very satisfying. My only real wish for this unit is that it would provide direct support for playing VOB/.iso files directly from an attached hard drive. But this is a detail -- the unit functions just as advertised. And that large picture definitely improves the experience.
Comments about Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD Projector:
The image quality, using iPhoto images on my Macbook is superb. There are ports for every kind of cable. The ease of use is exceptionable.
