The Photo Clam PT124 Pro Gold 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod is a sturdy, lightweight professional tripod that supports loads up to 28.7 lb. Constructed of lightweight carbon fiber, the tripod weighs only 2.4 lb, making it suitable to pack along for hikes, trips, and other photographic expeditions. At only 18.1" folded length with a head attached (head not included), the PT124 will fit into any carry-on bag and many backpacks.

The 4-section legs fold upward 180° to achieve such a tight package; the feet extend past the tripod's collar to line up with the top of a head, if one is attached.

Many other features make the PT124 a suitable on-the-go tripod for outdoor photography. A leg warmer facilitates a firm grip as you grab the tripod to re-position it. Foot spikes enable you to "dig deep" into loose terrain. The legs can be set independently at different angles to accommodate uneven terrain. A Ground Level Set position (with the legs a mere 5° from the ground) allows you to position your camera extremely close to the ground (less than 3") if you remove the rapid center column. Just affix the collar directly to the top casting, with the included plate underneath.

62.2" maximum height with center column extended
51.9" maximum height with column retracted
Rubber feet for smooth surfaces
Foot spikes for loose terrain
Center column is reversible for uses such as macro photography
The center column hook allows you to attach a ballast for added stability in windy conditions

Comments about Photo Clam PT124 Pro Gold 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I bought this tripod because I wanted a smaller travel tripod than my current full-size gitzo, but I still wanted something solid and sturdy. I'm 6'2" and most travel tripods are too short for me but this one is a few inches taller than competing models. I mated this with the a BH30 ballhead, and it seems to be a perfect match.

I have no issues with the construction: the 8X carbon looks really pretty, and it is really lightweight. It's really easy to extend and fold down. The carrying case with shoulder strap is a nice bonus.

Comments about Photo Clam PT124 Pro Gold 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

It's light and folds up compactly. Does not have set screws to lock on the head. You'll have to just screw it down tight, but that works for me in a travel tripod.

Comments about Photo Clam PT124 Pro Gold 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Bought this tripod after a lengthy comparison of travel sized tripods despite finding few online reviews. This is solidly built, light-weight, and compact. With a RRS BH-30 it's right at 3 lbs. Like many, it's a clone of the more expensive Gitzo but with an excellent case and both spikes and rubber feet. Center column is removable to put the camera nearly on the ground. For stability I normally use it with the center column down and it's reasonably comfortable for me at 5' 10". With the column up there's 3 or 4 inches to spare to get the viewfinder to eye level. The light weight makes it great for travel and it packs easily in a standard suitcase. In high wind I've used the center column hook to hang my camera bag with good results. I plan to take it hiking in the Rockies this summer as it's very backpack friendly. I've used it for landscapes in Hawaii and spring flowers in Kansas and haven't found any shortcomings.

The Tripod doesn't weigh much but is very stable. I love the case that comes with the tripod. All in all a very good choice and the price wasn't bad either.

Comments about Photo Clam PT124 Pro Gold 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

The PT124 is light and stable. I use it for all my photographic needs. The heaviest combination I've put on it is a Vanguard Hand Grip type ball head with a Canon 5D Mkii, Canon ef 70-200mm f/2.8 mkii and Canon 580 flash. I have found it to work very well on the beach as well as all other floor types. I now am looking for a lighter weight ball head.
