Questions? Ask our experts:

The Photo Clam PT125 Pro Gold 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod is a sturdy, lightweight professional tripod that supports loads up to 19.8 lb. Constructed of lightweight carbon fiber, the tripod weighs only 2.4 lb, making it suitable to pack along for hikes, trips, and other photographic expeditions. At only 15.6" folded length with a head attached (head not included), the PT125 will fit easily into any carry-on bag and most backpacks.

The 5-section legs fold upward 180° to achieve such a tight package; the feet extend past the tripod's collar to line up with the top of a head, if one is attached.

Many other features make the PT125 a suitable on-the-go tripod for outdoor photography. A leg warmer facilitates a firm grip as you grab the tripod to re-position it. The legs can be set independently at different angles to accommodate uneven terrain. A Ground Level Set position (with the legs a mere 5° from the ground) allows you to position your camera extremely close to the ground (less than 3") if you remove the rapid center column. Just affix the collar directly to the top casting, with the included plate underneath.

Comments about Photo Clam PT125 Pro Gold 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

This lightweight tripod collapsed down short enough to stick inside my backpack, yet extends to a comfortable height for a 5'11" photographer. I used it with a 280mm telephoto on a Canon 5D and found it stable enough with the usual precautions of hanging ballast, mirror lock-up, and a cable release. By retracting the lowest (thinnest) extension, I used it with a 560mm tele with no issues. The build quality is very good. Excellent performance considering the price.

Comments about Photo Clam PT125 Pro Gold 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Extends fairly high and folds down to a very compact size. Stable enough given the extremes to which it expands.

Comments about Photo Clam PT125 Pro Gold 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I bought this tripod with some trepidation. I wanted a tripod that I could "carry on" when hiking. Is it really going to be stable was the question or was I just buying a lightweight toy that would be useless? My intent is to use the tripod for landscape/vacation photography. I gave it a test run this week and results where good. I mated the tripod with a Sunwayfoto DB-36TR ballhead. Took some shots in a wind with a 70-300MM lens on my Sony Alpha A57. I had hung my camera bag on the center post for added stability. I viewed the resulting photographs at 100% they all seem to be very sharp. The tripod is extremely light and compact. It is very fast to set up. The tripod has anti twist legs, which allow you to loosen all the leg locks on each leg with one hand simultaneously. Compare with my Gitzo GT1840C this feels very rigid and stable. I think both Gitzo and photo Clam are excellent.
