The 4TB Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Server from WD is a reliable, manageable, high-performance solution for storing your data and keeping it available on your network. With a capacity of 4.0 TB, configured as 2 x 2.0 TB, the Sentinel saves your data on Enterprise-class RE (RAID Edition) hard drives and can configure that data in a RAID 1 or 5 configuration (Pre-configured RAID 1). In addition, it also supports hot-swapping when you want to expand drives, and can migrate your data to the appropriate RAID level. The Sentinel features dual Gigabit Ethernet connections.

Whether you're an IT expert or a novice, the plug-and-play WD Sentinel is simple to install and offers secure centralized storage, complete data protection, and remote file access for your employees and trusted vendors from the office or anywhere--without the complexity and cost of a VPN solution. Once it's set up, the Sentinel intelligently manages drive and network status, cutting down on maintenance time and allowing you to focus on your business. Use this storage solution for your PC desktop or laptop or your Mac laptop.

Plug-and-play Installation
The simple setup process enables you to integrate WD Sentinel into your office network quickly and easily. The administration dashboard guides you through the process, from adding users and setting up user access to creating public or private shares and scheduling backups

Comments about WD 4TB Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Server:

This is a great, high-capacity NAS device. The interface is intuitive and friendly. The only thing I can knock it for, is that it doesn't work with SBS editions of Windows. Which would be great as it's a perfect solution for some small business applications. It's still completely functional in an small business environment, you just can't use it from the server. You have to remote into with a PC. Otherwise, it's a fantastic storage option and WD has proven itself with me time and time again for reliability and quality.

Comments about WD 4TB Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Server:

I have had my DX4000 for about a year, and it did work out of the box for the most part. Problems came later, due to the fact that this product is actually a server based on complex, but very dated Microsoft software. As a result, when there is a problem, 1) You are left with no DX4000 documentation that can possibly help you get into the workings of the software, and so you have to read blogs meant for MS techies. The WD telephone support people are snarly and don't have the answers themselves. 2) Another big problem is that while the product literature implies you can use the USB ports to attach external hard drives to back up thwe server itself, it turns out you can't because the MS backup routine was not designed to work with large hard drives.

Worked fine straight out of the box. The Windows based software is a huge plus and there were no issues with getting it up and runing on all PCs. The interface is very easy to use.

Comments about WD 4TB Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Server:

This is a great storage device, I use it to stream movies to my TV, and to store music and a few documents.

I have it setup with 1 network card plugged into a 100mb router, and it streams full 1080HD movies without a issue.

Adding extra hard drives is so easy, you just plug it in, and it auto-magicly configues to raid 5.

Its super quick to copy data from the USB 3.0 ports.

Its also very quiet, I have it in the corner of the bedroom, and can leave it on overnight as it makes next to no noise at all.

I am 100% happy with buying my Sentinel
