The PST-251 Photo Safe II portable picture storage device from Digital Foci is an easy to use digital camera companion. Imagine being on vacation or shooting on location and you are snapping digital photos or recording video images like crazy. Photo Safe II is the place to store your images so you don't have to worry about using up your memory card. With the Photo Safe II you insert the camera's memory card into the multi-format card reader (compatible with most card formats), and directly download images at a fast rate of up to 5.0MB per second (a full 1GB card can be copied in approximately 3.5 minutes). You can then erase or re-format the card and you are ready to continue shooting.
By simply connecting the Photo Safe II to your computer via its high-speed USB 2.0 port your saved images can be retrieved for editing and sharing. Photo Safe II also functions as an external hard drive and memory card reader so you can back up and archive digital images, music and important files from your computer. Photo Safe II is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. It can be powered by the included rechargeable Lithium-ion battery or via the included AC power supply. The battery is charged via a USB connection to your computer and will deliver up to 80 minutes of continuous operation on a full charge.
The Photo Safe II is compact (about the size of a cell phone or PDA), lightweight (only 9.6 oz, 272.2g), and comes with a carrying case, thus providing the ultimate photo storage convenience both at home and on the go.

- Built-in memory card slots directly support CF Type I (including SanDisk Extreme III, IV), SD, SDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, MMC, MS, MS Duo, MS PRO Duo, and xD-Picture cards
- The Photo Safe II boasts fast copy speeds. It can copy a full 1GB card in approximately 3.5 minutes
- A backlit LCD screen displays operational status, active partition, remaining hard drive capacity, battery life
- The copy status indicator displays percentage completed, copy confirmation, and number of files copied
- Photo Safe II features automatic sequential folder numbering for each copy. It creates a unique folder name indicating media card type and copy sequence per card type to keep you organized
- Rubber covers for the memory card slots to protect slots from dust are included

I was looking for a portable device to download my media cards so I could leave my computer at home. This device (so far) does exactly what I needed it to do. Make sure to seat the cards properly and follow the directions. It took me a little extra effort (not much) to figure out why the files downloaded twice, but I reread the directions and it was fine.

This is a good backup device for the price. I brought this to back-up my SD card nightly while on vacation. I prefer not to carry a laptop and my IPad is limited
I have tested the device by doing a nightly back up of a SD card with 10G of photos for 2 weeks. This is done with the AC adapter as the battery life is not the best.

I took this little baby on the Tour Divide; the worlds longest mountain bike race from Banff Alberta Canada all the way to the US/Mexican border in southern New Mexico. It was in a padded dry bag and it handled the full gauntlet of weather ranging from freezing to 100+ degrees. It did everything I wanted it to do and that was to keep my video and pictures safe. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't have a download complete confirmation and the interface is a little clunky, but it handled the 2745 mile journey just fine. If it can sit in my bike bag and handle the bouncing and weather that it did through two territories and five states I'm pretty sure it will be sufficient for any normal means of travel to the greatest of adventures..............

I was looking for a reliable, simple autonomus data storage to dump my large CF Cards.
This is an "OK" product but for me it has 2 major drawbacks :
- No incremental backup
- Quite slow
(I compare to the Hyperdrive Colorspace I also own)

I purchased this device so that I could quickly and easily get the photos off of the card of my "second photographers" that I use at my weddings.
The card connection pics are a bit flimsy and will bend if you look at them wrong. Words instead of symbols would be nice on the face of the device so that I wouldn't have to explain to my assistants every time what combination needs to be pressed to start uploads.
Other than these minor flaws it can be very useful to location photographers, no doubt!!
