The Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head offers generous height, impressive stability, and light weight alongside a comprehensive list of professional functions – primary among which is the 180° tilting of the center column, which makes a convenient task of macro photography.

The included ball head has separate controls for pan & tilt and smooth locking knobs. With the SBH-100 head on the tilting center column, you'll be able to position your camera easily & securely at virtually any point within a spherical range – and make adjustments to any one dimension without altering the others. With an Allen key you can adjust the tension of the center column's swiveling motion.

Not only macro photography but also any type of outdoor photography will be well-served by the Alta Pro 264AB, which reaches a maximum height of 64.0" and supports up to 15.4 lb. The tripod features spikes that emerge from its rubber feet. At only 5.5 lb with the head, the 264AB is quite portable.

The included SBH-100 is removable and features a +90° to -35° tilt range. The head, which also pans a full 360°, comes with a QS-39 quick-release plate. The tripod collar features set screws, so with an Allen wrench you can establish an extremely strong connection with the head.

Multi-Angle Central Column (MACC) System allows you to move the center column from 0 to 180° angles in variable vertical and horizontal positions
Instant Swivel Stop-n-Lock (ISSL) system securely repositions the center column in one simple movement, in just a few seconds, while maintaining the tripod's stability
Rubber ring underneath tripod collar absorbs shock if center column descends rapidly to chassis
Bubble level on die-cast magnesium chassis
Aluminum alloy legs can be set independently at three angles (25°, 50°, and 80°), for stable operation on uneven ground and for low-angle photography
Quick-flip leg locks
Large foam grips on all three legs for all-weather use
Hexagonal center column prevents twisting
SBH ball heads have a double locking system, ensuring maximum security for your equipment. Two separate mechanisms are simultaneously triggered to release the quick release plate; you can be confident that your camera and lenses won't fall
Dual bubble levels in head, for precise positioning in either landscape or portrait orientation
Ball head is suitable for both photo and video usage, in a pinch – you can pan while keeping the tilt position locked (and vice versa)
The head's innovative advanced housing system couples a rugged magnesium exterior with a hollow interior, providing all of the precise, fluid-like movement of a standard fluid ball head without extraneous weight

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

This device does it all! If you use macro or long exposure this tripod is a must. Great price as compared to other units in its class. If you use a macro slide you will have all of the measurement aids and levels needed. The only thing I would change is the diameter and thickness of the legs, but I must admit I am splitting hairs. I am used to a medium format Hasselblad which is a tank. The unit holds my Canon and two sets of LED lights with no issues. Buy it!!

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I gave this 5 stars, because at this price point, I have not found a better tripod. In a short while, we put this tripod through the paces and it has performed quite well. I comes with a spare mount plate, so know that before you order a back up. Also, it comes with a handy multi-tool. Feature rich, not gadgety at all. Weight isn't an issue for me as I'm quite a large person. It is substantially lighter than my previous unit.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I have only had a couple opportunities to use the tripod since I purchased it. Here are my impressions thus far: Well constructed, all the locks and knobs are solid and feel well made. Weight is relative, (I'm 6'1" and built like a ex-pro-wrestler), to me... this tripod is light weight. I considered the unit with the pistol grip and I'm not disappointed with my choice. This ball head is quick to reposition and holds my camera in place like it should. I had this at full extension on the edge of a roof, with the center column and locked it into the 90° position and fully extended. Sand bags hanging from a strap I put through the loop before extending the column. This shot is why I bought the tripod in the first place. I got the shot and in ONE day, it paid for itself. Now, I'll use it over the next several months and report back what I find. *5Dmkii, Tamron 24-70mm.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I had ordered this by mistake, I wanted the 263AB. But once I received it and looked it over and tested it, I decided to keep it. So I pocketed the $20 saved and I'm as happy as ever. It's only a tad-bit shorter and has 4 section legs instead of three and well built.

I'm tall...6'3" so finding a tripod I can use without bending over double and at the same time is sturdy and will fold up to a descent size is not easy without spending a small fortune.

With the four section legs and the fact that the head comes off easy after loosening three hex screws with the multi tool thingy that comes with the tripod,it will be great for travel.

I use a Fuji X-E2 with an assortment of lens from telephoto to micro's and I like to take pictures of just about everything, but lean more towards plants, mushroom and BUGs. This is one nice ground hugging tripod perfect for what I like.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I read the descriptions and product reviews so there were no surprises. I wanted a STURDY tripod to replace a unit I'd owned for years that wasn't suitable for a heavier camera and lens, i.e., a Nikon D750 with the FX 24-70. Combined, the camera and lens weigh about 4 pounds and I had noticed one leg of my existing tripod was prone to collapsing.

This tripod is noticeably heavier and has a very sturdy feel. The movements are smooth through the range of motion and that's a definite improvement over my previous tripod. In short, I like it.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

Everything that I read online when looking for a tripod online led me to one conclusion, do not go cheap, because if you do you will end up spending more very soon. I am glad that I followed this advice and spent money on this tripod instead of one <$. This tripod is extremely sturdy and extremely capable of holding all of my gear. Pros:-lifetime warranty-ability to tighten joints (tool included)-sturdy-decent load capacity-hook to add weight for stability-folds rather compact, includes carrying case-ball head is extremely solid, no creep when locked down properly-quick release plate doesn't cover my battery door so I can leave it onCons:-not free-tilting center column can be tedious, luckily this isn't a feature I plan on using often-somewhat heavy, but this is to be expected for a tripod at this price made of aluminum

Awesome tripod! Perfect for my needs.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I had a hard time trying to decide on a tripod, but ultimately went for this one. I mostly focus on product and portrait photography, and with this tripod it's a breeze getting the right angle for the shot. I love the 180 movement of the central column, I use it all the time in the product photography. Getting shots from directly overhead is extremely useful and easy with this tripod. My only complaint about using it this way, is that when manually focusing, the column can move slightly after you finished getting focus. So I would recommend using a weight at the end of the column if you plan on using slow shutter speeds or manual focus. It also helps if you don't extend the column too far out horizontally, so it's more stable. I know some people didn't care for the heaviness of this tripod but honestly I don't think it's that big of an issue. It's very sturdy and stable. I prefer a heavier tripod, than one that can tip over easily. The included ball head is great, it's super smooth and easy to work. It holds the weight of my equipment without an issue. I am very pleased with my purchase!

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I am a research fanatic when it comes to big or important purchases. I previously owned one of those inexpensive sun pack tripods that was a true nightmare to function, particularly in the head. After much research I came to the conclusion that this tripod would be the best quality for price. I do some food photography and the versatile center column was very important to me. I wish there was a search filter just for that feature! I recently used this on hillsides and tremendously uneven ground. I was so happy how quickly and easily the legs adjusted to my needs. I also trusted the tripod to hold well, once it had good footing. It is heavier than I expected after reading reviews about some people hiking with it (I can't image wanting to hike with this, due to weight) but for my purposes I don't think I would want it to be any lighter. I like it to be well grounded and not feel the need to weigh it down. Who wants to carry a rock or sand bag around a park in addition to allllll the other gear? I was really on the fence between the 3 and 4 section legs. I read a lot about it and both had their benefits and drawbacks. I am happy I went with the 4. It folds up slightly shorter (which is still pretty long). This tripod gets very tall so I don't even often need to extend the last portion. I also like the leg segments as a gauge of measurement to get it even. Short of etching lines in the legs (they should do that!), the leg segments make it easier to gauge evenness.Overall, I know this is still a pretty low cost tripod, but for me, just getting more serious about photography and making very little money on it, it was a big purchase. The quality of this tripod feels like I got my money's worth and more. It feels very good in the hands and very well made!

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

The combination of the Alta Pro 364AB tripod with the SBH ball head creates a very useful tool especially for macro work. Having 4 leg sections keeps the tripod short when collapsed and easily adjustable on uneven terrain. The three leg angle positions let you get really down low and up close. The center rod can be offset in any direction and can even be inverted. The ball head is quickly adjustable to angles you wouldn't conceive of until you experiment with it. All components are SOLID.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I had been searching for a tripod that would be very light for backpacking and stable enough to hold by Nikon D7100 and zoom lenses. Started to think after some research that I will probably need two tripods. I came across the Vanguard 264AB on sale on [@]and was pleased to find it at the same price on B&H. The deal basically added the SBH 100 Ball Head for free (ps price was gone by end of week). Ordered from B&H for their better customer service. This unit is heavier than what I would want for very long hikes but will be ok for shorter walks to landscape or wildlife shooting opportunities. Unit is very stable and really versatile as the legs can move to mulitple angles even nearly fully out to have it next to the ground for macro photography. Product came fully assembled and well packaged by B&H. The 'instruction manual' is a bunch of pictures with almost no text but good reviews on You Tube are helpful. Short of spending $800 or more I do not think I could get a better unit/value

I had been putting off buying a new tripod and I'm so happy that I finally did. This tripod is so solid and easy to use. My Nikon7000 and heavy lens are very secure on the Alta Pro. Angle changes are quick and smooth. I can't wait for better weather to get outside and photograph moving birds. Great buy!!!

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I really like the ability to adjust the center column 180 degrees, very helpful in shooting at odd angles. I have found the tripod to be very sturdy and adjustable. The ball head came with 2 quick mounts, so I don't have to change them from one camera to another.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

Generous height, impressive stability, and light weight. This is my first professional quality tripod. I bought a cheap one from a local retailer a while back and the legs bent. I like this one a lot. I like its functionality with being able to pan left and right with the arm and move it up and down. That's the feature that caught my eye the most. It's going to take some getting used to, but I really enjoy it.

                        Awesome Tripod

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 264AB 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

This is the perfect tripod for amateur and professional photographers who are looking for pro features without the hefty price tag. The construction is rock solid throughout and is easy to setup. The center pole is extremely helpful for height adjustments and the ability to tilt it like a boom is outstanding. The added ball head is a great bonus. When barely loosing the knobs it adds just enough friction to make micro adjustments. One word of caution to beginners is to get familiar with the tripod before putting an expensive dslr on it. If you don't have a good grip on your camera when using the center column you could cause serious damage to your equipment. I would recommend this tripod to any amateur or professional photographer.
