I needed a well built stable tripod capable of mounting micro four thirds cameras that is light enough to carry into the field (backpacking) and not so expensive that it would be difficult to replace. This product fit my needs, it is lighter and more stable than an older product purchased almost 40 years ago that I have been using.........

.........and it has bubble levels in 3 planes, the legs are super adjustable with little effort. It's a totally well thought out design that provides maximum utility with a lightweight design at a fairly reasonable price. Yes a graphite tripod would be more suitable for my needs but if I dropped that expensive graphite tripod off a cliff I probably would not be able to justify purchasing another in that conversation with my wife. Some people tell me a monopod would be an ideal product but I have an itch for macro photography so this fits my needs. (I am asked why I hike 14,000 feet above sea level to take macro close-ups that do not show the background. If you've ever been at that altitude you know it's all about the journey.)

Used this tripod while on vaca at the beach and spent time on the beach taking pics of family. The level guides were great and the tripod was easy to use and adjust. The points at the feet help stabilize the tripod on grass/dirt.

Comments about Vanguard Alta+ 263AP 3-Section Aluminum Tripod with PH-32 3-Way Pan Head:

Very sturdy & well built. Mfg includes only 1 small hex key that you use to remove the head or quick release thumb release.
The manual shows using a hex key for the head and the legs, but the one supplied doesn't fit the legs as it is too small. I called the company and was told by customer support that they don't provide a hex key for the legs, yet they show it in the manual. Yet the clip that holds the small hex key has places for 3 hex keys.

I was looking for a good solid tripod to carry with me and I came across this model. In this price range I did not think it was possible to fine a good solid tripod, but I was very surprised. This is a very solid tripod to use and I find it very reliable. If you are looking for an inexpensive tripod that delivers, than this the one to get.

Also, B & H has the best price around for it.

I use the tripod for my Canon 60D and my CC. I also needed something strong enough to hold my 60D with a 70x200mm f/2.8 lense. This one seemed to fit the bill. After getting the tripod and then mounting the camera with the lens I was sure I had the right one. It's true the tripod is a little heavy but I don't backpack with the tripod. So this is no big deal for me. Would I buy the same tripod if needed? In a heart beat.

This is the first Vanguard tripod that i own and I'm very pleased with the purchased. it's very light to carry around yet firm when you strap your camera to it with no movement whatsoever. I would highly recommend this idem to those who are looking into moving on from a basic tripod to one that of a advance one.
