The PT-AR100U Full HD Projector produces bright, sharp images by employing a new, high-power 280W red-rich lamp and optical unit that combine to generate 2800 lumens of brightness for comfortable viewing in various lighting conditions.
Together with 2800 lumens of brightness, Panasonic's Light Harmonizer 3 technology assists the versatile use of the projector by automatically adjusting the picture quality of the image to match the living room or theater room conditions. This is made possible by utilizing built-in ambient light and color sensors that adjust the white balance, gamma curve, and sharpness settings to maintain bright, crisp pictures that match the viewing environment.
The digital image processing circuit brings greater clarity and sharpness to details, by reproducing fine nuances that were lost due to image compression. After a two dimensional analysis of the video signal's frequency in each scene, the new circuit optimizes the sharpness of each image portion based on the extracted information.
The PT-AR100 has two HDMI input terminals for digital transmission without image degradation. The HDMI input terminals also support Deep Color and the x.v.Color color space of the 1.3 standard. Deep Color provides 10-bit (over 1.07 billion) and 12-bit (over 68.7 billion) color depths for smooth gradation between colors, while x.v.Color compliance reproduces natural, lifelike images.

I'm projecting from 13ft to a 133" diag. 1.1 gain screen. Ceiling mount is 8 ft and projector is lowered 3.5" by mount.
My room is a well lit with windows on either side of screen and also to the rear. I have the ability to block out most light.
This Panny IS a light cannon. It very nicely projects in a daylight lit room. At night with 11 65watt floods, dimmed to 50% it is great.
Lowering the light level brings out the exceptional.
A few concerns that I have read about seem to be exaggerated. Fan noise is not an issue. I have it directly overhead of seating. It is NOT noticeable. It is not TOO bright or washed out even in full dynamic in the dark. But, toned down a bit to cinema 1 on eco seems to be the most theater like in a darkend room. I am nearly as close to the screen, given it's size that this projector can get. Meaning, wide angle lens with close proximity gets you brighter picture.
I can tell no discernable edge irregularities or focus problems and is proven by the well defined test patterns available with this unit.
Mounted directly overhead of the seated position allows for game play, standing 3-4 ft infront of the seats without shadows.
The amount of vertical and horizontal shift available should be more than enough for any install scheme. It's not an issue.
Blacks, shadows and colors all gorgeous. As clear as any LCD/LED and no discernable motion artifact. All are non-issues.
Yes, you get what you pay for. But, sometimes as with audiophiles will attest, after a point there is very little noticable improvment for the logrythmic amounts of money that can be spent to attain perfection.
So, go ahead. You all seaking perfection. Paint your ceiling black. Paint the walls black and install foam baffeling. Or, just kick back and enjoy what this Panasonic has to offer while having your friends, and most espicially your wife ooh and awww over the fact that your space looks like a nice normal room.

Comments about Panasonic PT-AR100U Full HD Projector:
OK, so you would expect and upgrade from a Sanyo Z1 to be great, but this thing is a smoking gun! Mounted one foot down from a 10 foot ceiling, projecting to a 102 inch screen 16 feet away, watching "The Life of Pi" was ultimate. Even my grandkids, 3 and 7, stayed sitting for the whole thing. It easily immerses you in the movie, and you forget everything around you. This is the best investment I have made in a long, long time!
I am part of a video club that has been showing movies for more than 30 years, and my team is experienced and critical. They could only stare at the screen, hypnotized for two hours . . .
While it may be a little large, its size matches the canon-like light projection performance, and as a ceiling mount, makes little difference. Matched with a Denon E300 receiver, an Elite Screens Spectrum series screen, and a Pearless PRS-UNV Universal Projector Mount, set up was quick and painless!

I have this installed in my Man Cave, the basement. This projector works great and is very bright. My basement is a walkout with huge windows, not your typical dark basement. It doesn't matter day or night, it is really a bright, clear, sharp picture. Couldn't be happier. I didn't need 3D as I see that as more of a gimmick. If you are like me and want a great projector at a reasonable price, gho for this one.

This is super bright. It shows well in our great room even with nearby lights on. The lens shift is a great feature at this price, but would be better if it shifted more. It is a little loud and kicks off a lot of heat to the front; hanging at the back of the room is best. I haven't hung mine yet; it appeards to need a special hanger.

Replaced an Epson EX71 720p projector with the PR-AR100U.B&H had the product in stock and unit was delivered within the estimated arrival date (4 days before the Super Bowl ;-). They did a verification via phone before shipping and required a signature upon delivery, both of which I appreciate (from a fraud point of view). PS If you haven't signed up for a UPS My Choice account yet I highly recommend it. I was able to have the package held at will call before a failed delivery attempt occurred while I was not home. The projector is performing as I expected based on the other reviews. I have a 145" painted wall screen that I installed myself. You can see pictures of the screen and how I installed it at the following link at AVS Forum...lots-of-ambient-lightThe projector is VASTLY superior to the EX71 it replaced. I love the ambient light sensor used for both the Light Harmonizer and Auto Eco mode. Both are adjustments I had to make manually on the previous projector based on the ambient light conditions in the room at the time. The fan noise in Eco mode is unnoticeable with any audio at all and very reasonable even when muted. Full power mode is louder, but quieter than my EX71 was at full power. The brightness is also much better and the black levels are incredible (50,000 to 1 vs. 3,000 to 1). My first use was for the Super Bowl and my guests were amazed at the picture. After the game I put on a Blu-ray of The Empire Strikes Back to test 1080p. We were astonished at the picture at night with no ambient light to worry about. No more movie theaters for me. I have one in my home now :)

We purchased this projector as an upgrade from the Panasonic PT-AX200U.While both projectors are similar the increased lumens and the significant increase in contrast ratio was a big plus for our uses. The projector was able to mount directly to our existing ET-PKX200 ceiling mount bracket so we didn't need to spend the additional money on the ET-PXA100 bracket - although we had to find out through trial and error. We use this in a large classroom area where many different classes view everything from B&W stills to VGA Computer content to BluRay video and they all look great. It was easy to install and adjust to the screen with the lens shift control and keystone adjustment. It is a little larger and heavier than the previous model but that is not an issue for us.

I use this projector as my main television in my living room. I project directly onto a wall painted with an eggshell satin white paint. Finding just the right paint is important! The image is sharp, bright, and clean at 120" diagonal. That's the entire area I've got available. It's much better than my previous projector with the ambient light I've got from two large windows and a set of french doors. I've got it ceiling mounted right above where I sit and I never know it's there! The image adjustment mechanism on this projector is fabulous. It was really easy to get the image zoomed, focused, and square on the wall. The range is tremendous, which gives flexibility on placement. I did a lot of research before I bought it, and I'm glad I did. It's big, but it's powerful and impressive. It sure makes it hard to watch TV at someone elses's house!

Comments about Panasonic PT-AR100U Full HD Projector:
I have been a B&H customer for more than 20 years, and I have never had any problems with the merchandise or B&H. My previous PJ came from B&H (8 years ago). I bought this new one over the phone, based on reviews and users comments, and I had it installed within 4 days after buying it. (I live in Brazil). Superb service. This projector replaced an 8 year old Panasonic PT-AE500U projector, I removed the old PJ and replaced it with the new one, using the same PJ support and cables, (except the power cable). Perfect fit. I used the PJ straight from the box, I can´t see a need to set the thing up, the picture quality is great. Its just like watching a 93 inch Full HD LED TV. My wife appreciates the fact that we now don't need total darkness to watch the PJ. I looked at a lot of PJ´s before deciding to buy this Panasonic. I was surprised at the price, and the quality. The unit came packed in three cardboard cartons, and worked first time, no problem.
A few years ago I converted an old storage area into a TV (Family) room, a bat cave, with no windows or other sources of natural light. Total darkness. I don't need things to be so dark with this PJ, I get a good picture in most lighting conditions.
I have a 7.1 Surround Sound System, and I watch satellite TV, Blu Ray and DVD discs at 1080P. Its like being at the movies most nights.
I have two screens - a 16:9 retractable with a 93 inch diagonal viewing area, and another wall mounted super wide-screen at 2.35:1 which is the width of the room (102 inches or 81/2 feet or 2.6 meters wide), all give me a great, clear, bright picture.
Great price, excellent service and a superb product. Recommended

I use this projector in my living room which has three windows.
I use it for movies and watching sports games. The great thing about this projector is you can play it during the day with the blinds closed of course and see it just fine! It's not to dark. Blu rays look great! The projector has such a crisp image that you can see the grains from the movie that was shot with film. (it looks just like the movies in a movie theatre. I'm projecting the image on a matte white da-lite 133" diagnol 16:9
I can't notice the noise the fans make on it at all. You don't really pay attention to it anyway.I've done a lot of research and for the price you can't go wrong with this projector. I watched the cowboys game openning night and in sports mode it looks great! I would recommend this projector to anyone. For the price it's awesome!

I use this product to photograph slide shows. It works perfectly for that purpose. That's the solution I was looking for a long time, for an affordable price. Now I can share my picture with relatives, comfortably installed in the sofa. All you need is a big white wall. You set up the projector 3 to 4 meters from the wall and you get an amazing projection size. What I like overall it is the stunning effect of a wide size projection. It's far more better than what you get from your computer screen. Not from a pure imaging quality point of view, but more because your are simply immersed into the picture due to the size. And you can drag down with you your public. Now I found a way to really enjoy and share my pictures. What also find great is the image distortion correction which is quite automatic whatever the orientation of the projecting with the wall is. You don't have to worry of lining up the projection cone perfectly perpendicular to the projection plane. If you keep it in the limit of the manufacturer recommendation, which are quite tolerant, the device with automatically correct the orthogonal bias. Very handy. The level of noise is also acceptable. The only drawback I see today is overall dimensions. It is not really a portable equipment. Pay attention to the room you have to set it up properly.

I love the ability to adjust the lens positioning, from horizontal and vertical and the soom and focus.
I wish I could have a quick on off for the light so that during plays that we can turn off the visual without having to power down the machine.
I wish that there was a sensor on the back of the machine so that I can control the machine from behind.

This product has a great picture. We have it projecting on wall with a roughly 4 by nine foot image and it looks great. Worth the value when comparing to flat screen product of similar price. Projector can warm a little so allow for additional heat in room.

I use this in my theater of 36 seats. It is grat for film screenings and movie watching! We love the picture quality and the full HD capability.

The picture and color are excellent. I replaced my ceiling mounted in focus projector with this one. Easy to connect and easy to use. The price was half the cost of my in focus projector and this one blows the old one away. It IS a bit larger than my old projector, but not an issue for me.
