The Cold Shoe Mount from Vello is a standard cold shoe mount with a 1/4" thread on the bottom. It can be used for mounting shoe mount accessories to a bracket, tripod, lightstand, or any accessory that features a 1/4"-20 screw. Unlike a hot shoe, the cold shoe has no electronic connection to a camera - it's used simply to hold an accessory.

I purchased this cold shoe mount to use on attachment arm for the flash when using the Orbis ring flash. I am not sure why a cold shoe is not included on that product (the attachment arm), but I was glad to see a well priced option from Vello. It makes it very easy to set up the flash in that configuration and get it back off again. As this use is low stress on the attachment I do not mind that the cold shoe is plastic. If I needed to hold a flash at more severe angle I might opt for a metal one, but as I have not tested this one to see just how strong the plastic is I would not mark it down for that. For the price, the plastic does seem like good quality and serves my purposes perfectly.
Overall, for these types of products I have been very pleased with the options from Vello. I have several other products from them (intervalometers, shutter releases, flash cables etc) and they all work as advertised and for a price much less than the name brand counterparts. As long as the quality keeps up, I will keep buying from them. As usual B&H shipping was fast and fairly priced.

The Canon 600EX-RT's weather sealed foot has made it incredibly difficult to find a plastic cold shoe that will fit it's foot and have the foot lock to the shoe.
I have tried a Frio and it took considerable leverage to get the foot to lock and unlock from the shoe and it was nearly impossible to remove - it felt like i was going to break my new $600 flashgun. I saw this and felt that the design would let the weather sealing wrap around the edges and be much easier to lock and remove. I was wrong. this shoe experiences the same issues as the Frio. very disappointed.
The Canon stand that comes with the 600 is just as easy and free as the shoe on the camera. The shoe on the phottix strato ii is just as free as the camera too. Someone needs to design a cold shoe that's solid, plastic, has a metal 1/4-20 thread and is compatible with the 600-EX-RT. Thought this was it. It wasn't.
This does work fine though for most older flashes. I have a Vivitar 285HV and works just fine.

I picked up two of them to add to my camera bag. I was looking for a cold shoe mount for my Rode Stereo Video Mic. Used on a Novoflex machined aluminum C clamp. Works great to attach the whole set up to a shelf or dashboard or glareshield. I connect the mic to my GoPro Hero3 Black to get much better external stereo audio and it works the charm. Very happy with this choice.

This simple piece is the bridge that allows the supplied swivel head to be used between my 1/4" threaded stand and my GiSTEQ Flashmate F-198C LED Video Light which was originally a shoe mounted swivel but with adapter can now be used as both.

Nice little cold shoe for polaroid land cameras

I used this on the base of a polaroid 269 flash to convert it to electronic flash...no metal to short the hot shoe and interfere with the pc cord.

Bought this for my new cage to adapt some equipment to it. The fit is a little bit tight but better tight than loose. Does what it needs to do. Feels very secure.

I bought a handful of these to use on DIY projects, such as mounting them on the end of a spring clamp, or to make my bracket for the Photek Softlighter II. They work great and don't cost too much.

I was looking for a cold shoe to mount on top of my studio strobe, which would hold a PocketWizard Plus III transceiver. I glued it to the top of the strobe head to keep the PWIII in an upright position for better signal, and it works perfectly.
