The iHome iP4 Portable FM Stereo Boombox for iPhone / iPod (Gray) represents the reinvention of the classic street jambox. With a totally cool and vintage design, the iP4 looks the part. Plus, with SRS TruBass digital signal processing and a powerful amplifier, it sounds the part as well. What makes it a modern boombox is the integrated iPod/iPhone dock, which is located right where the tape deck would have been in a classic boombox. Besides listening to your iPod and iPhone, the iP4 also features an FM radio tuner and an auxiliary audio line input for connecting alternate mp3 players, portable CD players, tablets, smartphones and laptops.

The sound was way better than expected. The case, remote and strap are well made. This is a perfect boom box to have out by the pool, and the rugged cover adds extra protection.

This is great for picnics, small parties, strapping it to your bike basket and cruising around. Good sound, easy to use, love the FM radio function. I have gotten tons of compliments on it from friends and random strangers on the street and in the park! It's a little bulky, thin but wide, so it can be a hassle to travel with, but for special occasions it's awesome. Not powerful enough for big or noisy spaces. Hasn't drained the batteries yet.

Wasn't that great, I was expecting better sound quality. Some songs did not sound good. Wouldn't have brought to a party by all means. I bought it today and took it back...disappointed =/

I bought this mainly for outside activities. And having a slightly obsessive personality, I did weeks of online research before choosing a portable boom box, lol. I'll admit that the final deciding factor for purchasing this over the others I was looking at was the design and Interface (I'm a stickler for things like that).
Upon receiving it, the design was even better than expected. I mean this thing feels solid! And for anyone wondering, the speaker grills are metal not fabric. It holds the iphone/ipod very well, with almost no jiggle.
After turning on SRS bass and then adjusting the eq from that, I became really impressed with the sound quality! I've had/heard other ihome products before, and this is easily the best sounding ihome speaker system I've heard (by leaps and bounds). I'd say it's even comparable to the clarity of a small Harman Kardon system i have. Also, the sound stays very clear all the way up to max.
Some reviews of this product say there isn't bass, but i only noticed a bass frequency drop out at lower volume (0-15% volume range). When it's louder the bass is certainly there and it's very clear. Of course the bass doesn't punch like 12" sub, but with 4" speakers in a cabinet of this size - i was more than impressed. It should be noted that the bass does rattle sometimes once you get near max volume, but I only noticed that with really bassy/dub music.
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase! I got it thinking it was just going to be a good looking boom box with mediocre sound, it's definitely better than I expected!

The design is awesome. It looks like a CAD drawing rather than an actual product. The equalizer is great to have, and the remote too. Sound is not bad, but does not deserve a full 5 stars. On battery power forget about turning up the volume, as the bass just sounds like hiccups. That's only when it's running on batteries. At a low volume the bass is almost non-existent. A little annoying thing: FM has no memory. A BIG positive is that if your iPhone is in a case, you won't have to take it off to place in the iP4.
