The black ACPRO4000 Digital SLR and Laptop Backpack from Ape Case may be small in stature but it's sure large on function. Within its 15.4 x 19.25 x 10.1" (39.1 x 48.9 x 25.7 cm frame is a backpack that will hold enough gear to keep you going for a long time. The interior is rated to hold your DSLR with a 70-200 f/2.8 attached as well as another 4-5 lenses, accessories as well as your 16.0" Laptop (40.6 cm) laptop held in its own padded and secured compartment. A touch fastened tab holds the laptop in place. However, it doesn't stop there. Zippered storage compartments can be used for small stuff like filters, cables, adapters and memory cards.

The bag is made with a tough water-resistant nylon exterior and also comes with a built-in, pull out rain cover that can be rapidly deployed when you're caught in a rain storm. An adjustable harness system allows the bag to be tailored to your body and the sternum strap keeps it balanced while walking.

Inside, there are multiple movable Hi Vis Yellow dividers that can be configured to fit your gear and that also help illuminate the interior when in low light. As mentioned, there's a separate computer compartment as well as a large mesh accessory pocket for filters, maps, cleaning cloths or business cards. That is complimented by another cleverly placed zippered pocket within the back flap. Inside that area you can store more accessories like cables, pens and adapters.

A real neat feature to this backpack are the dual wheels that retract underneath the bag, held in place by a strong tab system. When deployed, the wheels extend outward and are supported by a pop out retractable pull handle for easy navigation through airports and parking lots. The pull out wheels also act as a stand that holds the pack up vertically when stationary.

For the nature photographer, there's a handy tripod holder comprised of a tuck-away pocket for the feet and adjustable strap for the legs. Water bottle holder and hidden cell phone slot finish off this well-priced and full-featured pack that is backed by Ape's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

Designed with multiple Hi Vis Yellow compartments that can reconfigure to hold different cameras, lenses and flashes; yellow dividers making seeing contents easier in low light

Apecase4000 review, I held off on the apecase4000 review until I had a chance to really try it out on a cross country trip with a tight transfer in Atlanta airport. Let's start at the beginning, what did it hold for me, 1 full size DSLR, 1 medium large zoom, 1 medium fixed focal length lens, 1 full set of macro rings, 1 large sunpak flash, 1 small bower slave flash, 1 medium large hand held video camera, 1 4/3rds Olympus E-PL1, 1 small fixed focal length 4/3rds lens, All the above the chargers, with cords, a few filters, a medium size table top tripod, a small gorilla tripod, 1 15.6 inch laptop with charger, wallet camera and flash manuals, a few USB cords and flash drives, a few small personal items, umbrella, eyeglasses.
Well if that doesn't sound like much let me add that the inner camera equipment storage area is double padded with big padded Velcro dividers and I believe I had room for a couple more things if I want for exmple two more medium size lenses or whatever.
So how did it go. I felt like the back pack was pretty heavy but I tried it on. I could pack it on my back for a few hundred yards if I had to but I didn't. I depended on the rollerbladers wheels which share one long common steel axle. They run smooth as butter. I really wouldn't want to try a laptop bigger than my 15.6" which was comfortable, I believe they specify that it can fit a 17" laptop. The Apecase has a big fold over top flap that fits very nicely and snugly over the top of the pack. Unbuckling this flap reveals the zippered padded laptop pocket so you can get at the laptop if you want to boingo around at the airport without having to break into the double padded photo equipment compartment. But if you need to quickly pull out the DSLR two zippers under the flap it rides at the top of the pack so you can grab it out without having to digging to deep.
How did it fly? Once inside the group 3 of the coach cabin the pack rolls down the aisle with less than a 1/4" to spare due to the side pockets but because they are low on the pack they squeeze thru rolling right down the aisle. Now can I get this Apecase into the overhead compartment? Yes! But not easy, it seems at least for Delta Airlines (I did say the transfer was in Atlanta right) the height of the overhead bin is 14" this is a very tight fit for the Apecase. But I pushed and I pushed and I pushed and squeezed it in. Perhaps I could be a little more efficient with the outer pockets next time but all in all a great success.
Finally there is a pull out kickstand that keeps it from toppling over when you park it upright even with another carry on hung over the extended handle. Just to add in there were some buckles on the side for a full size tripod or a yoga mat I suppose that I didn't use. That's it.

Let's start with one thing - This pack is NOT "small in stature" - I got this pack to replace a large Tenba shootout that I've been lugging around airports and wanted something with wheels. It makes life a lot easier, and the dual use (i.e. - backpack/rolling bag) is great. I have two issues however:
    1. It is very cumbersome (a lot more than I thought it would be).
    2. (and this is the main issue) - zippers tend to get stuck, which makes for an annoying tug of war sometimes.
Other than that - it's good, has a lot of compartments and fits a heck of a lot of equipment (I fit a D7000 +5 lenses (180, 85, 50, 35 and 24-120) + 3 flashes and still have room to spare). Bottom line - not perfect, but suits its purpose (making my back's life easier) well.

    Big Enough

Comments about Ape Case ACPRO4000 Digital SLR and Laptop Roller Backpack (Black):

I honestly thought it would be bigger, but I'm still very happy with this. It has wheels and that is very convenient for me while I'm traveling from one location to another.

Comments about Ape Case ACPRO4000 Digital SLR and Laptop Roller Backpack (Black):

Let it be known that I. Love. This. Bag! It literally fits every piece of equipment I own, if you count what I hang off the sides and secure under the top flap. Everything I can think of right now:

        Nikon D750 with 85mm lens
        50mm lens
        3 flashes
        2 flash battery packs
        Triggers/receivers
        2 video lights
        Batteries and chargers
        Memory card case
        ExpoDisc
        Light meter
        Cleaning accessories
        Umbrella
        RapidBox
        2 light stands
Spider Holster w/Think Tank Lens Changer

The only negative I would mention, that really isn't a big deal to me, is that the bag isn't very stylish. But the function trumps style! Already used this bag for two studio shoots and look forward to using it at my next wedding! Highly recommended.

The ape case literally is saving my back. I carry around 50 pounds of equipment with me when I go on shoots. I love how deep the case goes so it will hold everything I need. I like having the option of either carrying as a backpack or just using it as a wheely case. I love love love that the wheels aren't completely attached the back. Everything about this bag is just ah-mazing! Plus price wise, it totally fit in my budget. Don't get me wrong the other bags were nice but I needed something that looked cool, was going to save me from going to the chiropractor, and had all the function and awesomeness that I needed. This. bag. is. it!

The Ape case is a great design but it is heavy, even when empty. When I have my camera, lenses and laptop in it when air traveling it is difficult to fit in to the overhead bin let alone lift it up over my head to get it there. I took it on one trip from Missouri to Alaska and have never flown with it again. I have never used it as a back pack and never will.

Ape case is a wonderful company. They have given guys who are looking for an affordable and safe way to carry their gear a great option. At under $ this bag gave me a way to carry about 30lbs of gear from place to place without breaking my back. I love love love love love this bag. I do however, have a word of caution: don't try to pick up the bag by the front strap, it will pop the seam if your bag is loaded with stuff. It wasn't a big deal to fix, I just took it to a shop and they sowed it back on but it was an inconvenience.Bottom Line: Get This Bag.

Comments about Ape Case ACPRO4000 Digital SLR and Laptop Roller Backpack (Black):

My Ape Case ACPRO400 was purchased primarily as a roller to replace a shoulder bag for walkabout photo outings but with added possibility of backpacking short distances in a pinch. There's no plans for air carryon. My review reflects that usage. With only brief use so far views may change, but the first impression is that the case is well made and will be durable. It certainly provides the advertised features. Having said that, here are the specifics so far.First, this case holds a lot. Leaving out lens hoods, the following fits: 2 pro DSLRs, wide zoom, standard zoom, tele-zoom, three tilt-shifts, fisheye, teleconverter, flash, small external battery pack, and various incidentals. I can hardly lift the result, but that's what wheels are for. The rain cover and tripod carry pouch/retaining strap work as advertised. The wheels roll smoothly and appear to be fairly tough, and the handle is a two-stage telescoping affair. There's also a fixed hand grip. The backpack straps are comfortable enough and stow internally. Conveniently, the wheel/handle assembly is removable, leaving just a backpack. The interior is highly configurable, and there's plenty of slots to stow small/thin items. It's deep enough so that bodies and lenses except telephotos drop in vertically, maximizing packing density. This isn't a lightweight case, but its weight/volume-to-carry-capacity is excellent -- thereby making it a load to hoist when fully packed! There's not much to improve. The wheels might be a bit larger and fatter. No doubt they're similarly sized to every other rolling case, and they're great on hard surfaces. However, soft surfaces make for tougher going. Second, there's an interior padded flap that zips to the configurable camera gear area. It holds gear extra secure but adds bulk, and it would be nice if it were removable. My usual mode will be to leave it unzipped for quicker access.Overall, the latter are minor points. This case was by far the most closely aligned to my needs, a good product and an outstanding value.

The first thing I did when I got the backpack was go to our airport and see if it would fit in the carry on luggage compartment. It was too wide - has to be 9" and this is 10" or so. It might get by on some flights, but I didn't want to take the chance. So, I sent it back - too bad because otherwise, it looks like a great product!

I have most of my photography gear in this case including two digital SLRs and several lenses. It's a big heavy bag and would be of no use to me without the rollers, but it does roll well and holds a lot of gear. Very well padded, but takes a while to get to everything. It's not a great bag for quick access, but gets the job done.

I bought this case for a vacation to Alaska and wanted plenty of space on a rolling backpack platform. This case even goes beyond that. It is actually larger than I need but the extra space is welcome. The rolling feature is great and I can even carry my laptop inside. The yellow interior highlights the equipment making it easy to find anything. I am very satisfied with this case and recommend it to anyone with similar requirements.

Comments about Ape Case ACPRO4000 Digital SLR and Laptop Roller Backpack (Black):

According to the specs, it just fits the Southwest airline carry on requirements and it does, empty. Unfortunately it puffs up significantly when loaded including a laptop. The other problem I see is that the laptop compartment is on the backside exposed to impact. there is no padding on the back, only between the laptop and the camera gear. It was a big disappointment. It looks great, has many ice compartments and the wheels look sturdy. It would be great if I didn't go on airplanes. I am returning it.

The case appears to be well thought out and well made. A lot of equipment can be placed within the case. It is well padded.

The case is a really good value, especially when compared to the prices of some of the more well known brands.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this case to a friend.

I use it to store photo equipment, back pack (for limited distances) and for handy access to equipment from back floor of SUV.

For extended back packing one may want to consider a pack made specifically for back country use.

Comments about Ape Case ACPRO4000 Digital SLR and Laptop Roller Backpack (Black):

I purchased this, as I wanted a decent bag that could roll. It would need to travel from car, home, and to locations, and save my shoulder, and so I wouldn't have to lift or carry a ton in gear. So far, I have owned it for several months, and it has suited my needs admirably. I would say though, that it is good for one body, three L lenses, and an assortment of other lenses, flash and accessories. Any backup equipment goes in my other bag, along with additional items, and usually stays in the car. I have a 17" laptop, so it holds that ok, and, as I am careful, I can haul everything to whatever shoot I have.

You do need to lay it flat, as if you try to open it standing, you are liable to spill some contents, but that is ok. The one negative so far, is a velcro square on the back that picks up everything, hair, lint, schmutz, but for the cost, I think this is awesome.
The depth is enough so I do not worry about my lenses, or my camera. My 70-200L is the only one that lays flat, and that has a velcro strip across the top.
The bag is easy to put in and take out of my trunk. If you have it upright, it can tip forward, so keep that in mind. Also, to get the handle free you have to work it out of the backpack harness straps. I do not expect to ever use the backpack straps, but it is ok to have them there.

I have not needed the cover as of yet, but it is nice insurance to know it is there if I needed it.
I would say, overall, that for the money spent, this has been an awesome bag, covers my needs, looks professional enough, without having had to spend a lot of money, and, will last quite a while.

The straps on the bottom do tend to have the ability to drag on the ground, so I would say, if you tie them up, and tuck them up, it will work fine. Also, I would not use the straps to hold a tripod on the bottom. I would be afraid that it would drag on the ground.

So, to review, it is a great case, at a great price, and covers my needs.

The case is big, no bones about it, but sturdy, good zippers, very protective and a unique removable wheels system. At $ bucks, this case is a steal--a great value for a quality case. If you're going to be trekking the Himalayas, probably not the case for you but if you need a sturdy, protective case to drag through airports and then put it on your back for light hiking or beach photography or vacation needs, this is your case. Glad I bought it and look forward to many years of use.

I wanted a case that could hold all my camera stuff and this bag seemed to fit the bill so I bought it. I was right. Now I don't have to search through all my bags to find what I need. It is rugged and durable and is backed by a lifetime guarantee by a company who stands behind their products. The yellow interior makes it great for finding things. It has a retractable "kickstand" to prevent it from turning over and a hidden zipper on the bottom of the back reveals a pouch containing a full rain cover. The rolling feature can be removed. It is designed like a miniature hand cart which fastens to the bag. There is a zipper compartment above the right side pouch which houses a pull out pouch for stowing a tripod. This APE CASE is a very cleverly designed bag, I am always finding various pockets and pouches that are hiding all over this case. There is even a removable inner case which can be put in a standard carry-on rolling suitcase bag so you can have an incognito camera bag when for air travel. I just love this bag!
