The Redged RTA-428 Steady 4-Section Aluminum Tripod is a versatile, lightweight tripod that supports a great deal of weight for such a portable model. Composed of aluminum alloy, the 4-section legs and center column extend to a generous maximum height of 63.4" and fold down to 21.7".

The RTA-428 includes many features that professionals expect: Anti-rotation legs for quick setup, a high load capacity of 26.5 lb, a reversible center column, and a counterweight hook for attaching a ballast for added stability during windy shoots. In addition, both the twist locks and the center column are designed to prevent sand and dust from invading the RTA-428. At 4.0 lb, this Steady tripod is a great choice for backpackers and other traveling photographers.

Aluminum Leg Tubes
Leg tubes are composed of lightweight, heavy-duty aluminum alloy
Non-Rotation Legs
Because of the non-rotation system, all locks of each leg can be opened at the same time, in one movement. Setup happens in a matter of seconds
Easy Lock Rings
The Redged ring-locking system keeps dust and sand from entering the tripod, ensuring perfect operation. It requires no extra power to achieve a safe locking
Column-Locking Ring with Wings
The wings ensure tight locking of the center column when heavy photographic gear is placed on the tripod. Rubber sealing prevents sand from entering the locking mechanism
Three Leg Positions
Besides the normal position, the tripod offers the extra-low position for low viewpoints and ground-level macro subjects, and a middle position for table-top photography and macro photography (flowers, insects, etc.)
Reversible Column
By inverting the center column, it is possible to realize even lower camera positions and macro positions. This is also great for making reproductions of flat objects, using the setup as a sort of copy stand
Stability Hook
The counterweight hook is designed for attaching extra weight (a photo bag, or a bag with sand or stones), to increase the stability of the tripod, especially during windy conditions
Reversible Mounting Screw
Reversible screw has both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, so any photo head or other accessory can be attached
Rubber Feet
Universal rubber feet, suitable for many surfaces
Leveling Bubble
High-precision leveling bubble makes for perfectly leveled shots
All-Weather Foam Grip
Luxury leg covers for easy handling and comfort in cold temperatures
Tripod Bag Included
Supplied with a high-quality tripod bag

Comments about Redged RTA-428 Steady 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I really wanted to like this tripod... I was excited to get it. It's really sturdy and looks cool too. But my experience with these tripods hasn't been too great.

I received my first one and it didn't work out of the box. One of the tripod legs would not stay collapsed, even with the twist release all the way tightened. I figured I just got a faulty unit, so I sent it back and got a new one. My new one actually worked very well for quite awhile. The first thing to go was the bubble level on the top... all of the liquid inside leaked out somehow, I haven't noticed any cracks or reason it should have leaked. Not a major problem, but an inconvenience at the very least. I just recently started having problems with the legs again, now some won't collapse, they are just stuck in place. Others are having the same problem as before. I took it apart and re-assembled the components in the twist release and it worked for a while after that but it just keeps happening.

The bottom line is this: if this model had a latch release system instead of the twist-lock legs, I would buy it in a heartbeat. But my two tripods had a lot of problems with that... I think I'm just going to invest in a tripod with old fashioned latches, they seem more reliable.

Comments about Redged RTA-428 Steady 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I use this tripod with the RNB-3 Professional ball head "B" series and the RLA-28 Lateral Arm. I use this setup mostly for food photography, think Hybrid Macro/Still life. The Tripod is stable, folds up well and has carry case if your into that sort of thing, I find setup to be quick and breakdown just the same. A big plus for me, I am a 6'4 guy and I can comfortably look through the eye piece of my camera without any ridiculous posture modification. I have yet to find something I do not like about the tripod, my current rig weighs between 11 lbs, with flash and 13 lbs. depending on lens, the tripod always seems stable. If I had to look for something wrong with it, I would say its a touch heavy, but I didn't buy the Carbon Fiber model for a reason.
