The Redged RTA-320 3-Section Aluminum Macro Tripod with R-0 Ball Head is a sophisticated, extremely compact camera support system for table-top or low-angle photography. Composed of lightweight, heavy-duty aluminum alloy tubes, the 3-section legs and center column extend to a maximum height of 18.4" and fold down to just 11.2" (with the head attached) for easy transport.

Though it's a "macro" or table-top model, the RTA-320 includes many of the tripod features that professionals expect: Anti-rotation legs for quick setup, a relatively high load capacity of 8.8 lb, a reversible center column, and no-slip rubber feet. In addition, both the twist locks and the center column are designed to prevent sand and dust from invading the RTA-320.

The R-0 ball head features a single knob for releasing & locking both pan and tilt positioning. The head features a slot for 90° tilt, so you can easily switch to portrait orientation. At only 1.6 lb, this tripod & head combination is an excellent choice for backpackers and other traveling photographers.

Aluminum tubes
The tripod's leg tubes consist of lightweight, heavy-duty aluminum alloy
Non-Rotation Legs
Because of the non-rotation system, all locks of each leg can be opened at the same time, in one movement. Setup happens in a matter of seconds
Easy Lock Rings
The Redged ring-locking system keeps dust and sand from entering the tripod, ensuring perfect operation. It requires no extra power to achieve a safe locking
Column-Locking Ring with Wings
The wings ensure tight locking of the center column when heavy photographic gear is placed on the tripod. Rubber sealing prevents sand from entering the locking mechanism
Three Leg Positions
Besides the normal position, the tripod offers the extra-low position for low viewpoints and ground-level macro subjects, and a middle position for table-top photography and macro photography (flowers, insects, etc.)
Reversible Column
By inverting the center column, it is possible to realize even lower camera positions and macro positions. This is also great for making reproductions of flat objects, using the setup as a sort of copy stand
Stability Hook
The counterweight hook is designed for attaching extra weight (a photo bag, or a bag with sand or stones), to increase the stability of the tripod, especially during windy conditions
Reversible Mounting Screw
Reversible screw has both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads, so any photo head or other accessory can be attached
Rubber Feet
Universal rubber feet, suitable for many surfaces
Leveling Bubble
High-precision leveling bubble makes for perfectly leveled shots
Tripod Bag Included
Supplied with a high-quality tripod bag

Comments about Redged RTA-320 3-Section Aluminum Macro Tripod with R-0 Ball Head:

A full sized tripod is a chore to haul around when traveling. This is a very solid well made unit, and there's always something you can set it up on. You can even hold it collapsed against a verticle wall and get good stability.

Comments about Redged RTA-320 3-Section Aluminum Macro Tripod with R-0 Ball Head:

Needed a rugged, outdoor macro tripod to support a Canon DSLR with a 70-200 lens attached. I choose the Redged RTA320 having examined all of the other macro tripods on display in B&H NY. I was very impressed with the case and wench supplied with the tripod. There wasn't a manual with it (well recorded in other reviews), so I got a very thorough demo from a competent Sales Associate in B&H. I have used the tripod for 2 weeks and am very satisfied.

Comments about Redged RTA-320 3-Section Aluminum Macro Tripod with R-0 Ball Head:

I'm not a camera pro but I can tell this is a fantastic tripod. The previous reviewer was incorrect, this tripod easily goes flat, you just have to unscrew the neck extension, which you can do without having to dismount your camera... just lower the extension down all the way if it's not already down, lock it in place as normal, and the bottom section of the neck extension unscrews, allowing you to flatten this tripod down all the way. You can see a video of this on the redged web site.

It would have been nice if there was some sort of snap holder integrated into one of the legs to hold the tripod extension so you don't lose it, and also, a cover to cover the threads of the neck extension when it is removed so they don't get dirt on them.

This tripod is solid, there is no play in it whatsoever. It's rated for carrying 11 pounds, in truth I think you could carry more than that easily, as long as the center of gravity doesn't go out too far. The articulation of the legs seems to be well calibrated, they are stiff enough to not give, but not too stiff to not be able to move them comfortably. each leg only locks in one of three different positions, so if your rig is heavy enough to overcome the stiffness of the articulation, you can still use the tripod if you lock the legs. you can adjust the stiffness of the legs as they take a standard phillips screw driver and/or hex wrench.

only bummer is no owner's manual, so if you take it appart and you're not sure what order the parts go back together, that could be a problem. also, what about ordering replacement parts in case you lose a part? I'm sure you can get help from redged, but still, it would be nice to have an owner's manual with a diagram, so you already know the part # you need before you call them.

hint: If you want to see more reviews, pull up the listing for this tripod without the included ball head.

Comments about Redged RTA-320 3-Section Aluminum Macro Tripod with R-0 Ball Head:

I had been looking at a much more expensive tripod that would have required me to purchase a separate ball head, so I was pleased to discover this one. Haven't yet had a chance to take this out in the field, but when I took it out of the box and set my camera up on it, I was impressed by how sturdy it is and how well it supports my Canon Rebel with a 100mm macro lens on it. The movement on the ball head seems smooth. A down side is that it doesn't flatten (or at least as far as I've been able to tell). Although it's use is pretty intuitive, I would have liked, also, if it had come with some sort of manual.
