The ATOMOS Connect Converter H2S: HDMI to SDI is a convenient way to convert an HDMI signal to SD, HD, or 3G-SDI -- depending on the transfer rate of your SDI device -- for the purpose of running the HDMI signal on an SDI device (such as in, for example, connecting a camera monitor to the Converter by HDMI, and outputting the signal to a big screen SDI monitor 300 feet away).
Aside from the handy form factor, what's additionally very much convenient is that the Converter is battery-powered. It features an internal battery that provides 2 hours of power, and accepts separately-sold NP series batteries that can last up to 32 hours, so depending on the battery size, you can power the Converter continually into the next day if you want. And if you have a second battery as well, then you can replace one for the other and the internal battery will kick in during the swap, and thus you can keep the converter working day after day without pause. (You can also employ AC power if you have an NP-style device that functions as an AC adapter.) As another point of convenience, multiple Converters are stackable one atop another and can even be housed in a 1RU rack. SDI to HDMI Converters are also alternatively available and can be stacked together with HDMI to SDI ones as if they were the same. When stacked, multiple units can be powered by the same battery, by the one on the uppermost Converter in the stack.
The Converter has one HDMI input and two SDI outputs, meaning you can send the same HDMI signal to two SDI devices (if you wanted to).

Comments about Atomos Connect Converter H2S: HDMI to SDI:
I use this to get a computer signal into my HD-SDI production switcher - works perfectly. Love the test signal outputs. Takes a few minutes to figure out the mode logic, but works as advertised. Terrific small package compared to similar converters.

Comments about Atomos Connect Converter H2S: HDMI to SDI:
This device works, but, contrary to what the description says, IT DOES NOT FIT IN A SONY SB BATTERY MOUNT.
Please forgive the yelling, but a previous reviewer said the same thing, and I thought it could have been a one-off problem.
However, I tried the device with my Marshall monitor, my Dolgin battery charger, and even my Sony EX-1R AC adapter, and no luck. It simply does not fit.
Some industrial-strength velcro will do the trick, but that's not the solution I envisioned when I bought the unit.

Comments about Atomos Connect Converter H2S: HDMI to SDI:
This is a great product I use as an HD Bar and Embedded Audio Generator. The least expensive I have seen anywhere. I love the battery porability. And, oh yes, it's a HMDI to SDI Converter (or you can buy the SDI to HDMI Converter version. Too bad it won't do both directions). It's a little plastic, but worth the price for what it does. Will do different Resoluttions/Formats. I'm not sure it has the power to push signal at a good strength over long distance of Copper, but HD doesn't travel well past 300ft anyway.

Comments about Atomos Connect Converter H2S: HDMI to SDI:
LIKES: It does what it says it will do. The signal conversion looks GREAT on a 17" Pany monitor. Now an HDSLR signal is turned into ubiquitous form that takes advantage of waveform/vector scope and a/b signal comparision with other HD-SDI sources. I've used other brands, but the conversion was not as good. Plus, which is a big one, it can run from a battery all day. For me, it's an important tool to have in the bag.
COULD BE BETTER: Mounting with/on a camera is a challenge with no immediate solution unless, of course, you have an Atomos SS recorder. Some rigging will be required. The LED's are so bright that it's hard to read the nomenclature that marks them.

Comments about Atomos Connect Converter H2S: HDMI to SDI:
The Connect WORKS as advertised, but warning, it does not fit all battery sockets that accept NP style batteries.
I have a marshall monitor with an SL mounting place for NP style batteries and the Connect is too shallow to work with that battery plate.
I have been in contact with Atomos and they've informed me that the current build of this product is what it is. They will likely revise the design to work with my mounting plate later, but no guarantees.
