This camera was purchased for my 10 year old. It has kept him busy for hours creating 3D movies. The 3D quality is obviously not top shelf, but you can't beat this camera for the price.

Comments about Vivitar DVR 790HD 3D Digital Video Recorder:
Anaglyph (red-blue [cyan]) 3D videos are great for publishing and sharing- cheap paper 3D glasses are available for almost anyone. The lens are mounted closer together than ideal, but the stereo effect is distinctly pronounced. There was no problem recording a continuous full hour project after the first battery charge, using the default settings: 4 gigs. [Be sure to have the camera fully turned off before charging.]Experienced anaglyph 3D users will have instant access to the video material. Since the camera output is anaglyph already, there's no need to run separate video files through image editing software, etc.Zoom lens was nice, and had fine stereo effect at full 'telephoto'.Exposure changes were automatic, accurate, and fast during shooting. [haven't looked to find a manual over-ride yet.]Many control features are available for experienced camera operators.Internal battery. Hmm. Have to find out what to do when the battry dies. Heh, buy a new one; it's cheap!Nice plastic wrap-around glasses that experienced anaglyph users will appreciate.Lens separation and battery concern are the only issues leaving it short of 5 stars.I'm reviewing because I was so delightfully surprised.Nice find.

Comments about Vivitar DVR 790HD 3D Digital Video Recorder:
I ordered this camnera from B&H photo in late 2011 hoping it was finally the new gem us low-budget 3D enthusiasts were hoping for.
Ouch! Think again. I was suspicious when I first realized that the back then unclear avertizing had failed to clarify... the 3D works on-lcd-screen only if you wear anaglyph glasses... but will it record the actual video in anaglyph or was this just the screen doing it for preview purposes.
When I finally copied over the file the camera had recorded I could not believe my eyes. This hunk of useless plastic records directly in anaglyph (red/blue) and does not allow compatibility with real 3D televisions and monitors. Furthermore I've produced my own anaglyph videos before using homemade two-camera mounts and I can do a way better job than this camera.
It's while viewing this 30-second clip I had recorded that I was already packing the unit back into its box and looking up the return process on B&H photo. I had other 3D items in my order which I kept but this one had to go back. Now.
If you're looking for a toy and don't have a 3D TV, by all means you mighgt have a little fun with this... but don't look to be making anything even remotely semi-pro. Only horribly amateurish results will be produced.
If you're looking for a 3D camcorder whether it be low end or high end... stay away from this thing. It's plastic molded into what could fool you to think it's a 3D camera. It's a child's toy.

Comments about Vivitar DVR 790HD 3D Digital Video Recorder:
Having a live anaglyphic 3-d image on the screen and watching as you film with the supplied red/blue glasses is really fun. You can tell how best to create depth. The camera is very light but sturdy enough, I've used it a lot over the last three months and there are times when it's really great and others where it's just not the right camera. It needs lots of light, but not contrasty light. The jpegs are lots of fun too. Some really stunning depth of 3-d effects can be created. You really have to play with it, in terms of subject to find what it does best. The sd card pops out very easily and it effortlessly loads to a Mac in Iphoto (unlike my JVC camcorder). The biggest drawback for me is how telephoto the lens is.
The zoom in strong, but it starts at about 60mm (in 35mm lens terms)
so you either need to back way up for wide shots, or you don't get 'em. All in all though, I found it a remarkable achievement for this price point. Go Vivitar!

Comments about Vivitar DVR 790HD 3D Digital Video Recorder:
Before I purchased this item, I read a number of bad reviews, but since the price was low, I decided to take a chance. I also was fully aware that the camera used the anaglyph 3d method, but again felt that, as a 3d enthusiast, it would still be a fun item to experiment with.
Unfortunately, the reviews were correct. Terrible color fringing makes the pictures unviewable, and 3d effect is negligible. I think the dual lenses are simply too close together to create a convincing 3d depth. I tried for several days adjusting parallax and trying everything I could think of, because anaglyph IS capable of producing a half-decent 3d image. But the color fringing was intolerable, and I ended up returning the item (By the way, B&H are great for returns, they made the process easy and quick)
I can't imagine why Vivitar would release an immature product like this, it doesn't deliver even a fraction of what it promises.
If you're a 3d enthusiast (I was into 3d film long before I experiemented with digital) you may be tempted by this item...but DON'T DO IT!!

Comments about Vivitar DVR 790HD 3D Digital Video Recorder:
This camera does exactly what it is advertised to do. It shoots video and stills directly to Anaglyph. In simple English, that means your video is automatically processed into a single frame image made up of two images, and the images are tinted in the appropriate red and cyan (blueish) frames. You need to wear red and cyan 3D glasses to see the videos and photos on any TV screen including home TVs, computers, and the like. Before you order this camera be sure to read all of the details so you will not be expecting a high end camera capable of shooting "side by side" or other 3D formats for 3D specific TVs. This camera makes a great gift for children too. I own a Magic Shop and I have begun using this camera to shoot 3D videos for my company website. My customers get free 3D glasses with any purchase so they can see my promotional videos on line. What a great advertising tool! I have not tried making photo prints of my stills yet, but it makes sense that the pictures you hold in your hand will pop out at you when viewed through your 3D glasses. This camera is a great conversation piece and will bring you a great deal of fun viewing.

Comments about Vivitar DVR 790HD 3D Digital Video Recorder:
I find this camera very simple to use. There are only a few buttons and the on-screen menus are easy to navigate. The image quality of the video is acceptable for a camcorder this cheap, but definitely not outstanding. The 3D effect does work, but I was disappointed that it is anaglyph 3D only. The video signal is recorded with blue and red overlays in a single frame. This gives you only the option to watch 3D video and photos with red and blue glasses. You don't have a way to record side-by-side frames for use on the new 3D TV monitors with clear LCD glasses. One pair of plastic-framed glasses are included. They look cool, but they fit well only if you don't wear prescription glasses. Overall, this camcorder is a bit disappointing to me, but it's still a fun little gadget for the price.
