The FI8905W Outdoor Wireless IP Camera (Silver) from FOSCAM is a high-quality video camera with a water- and weather-proof outdoor housing. It also boasts remote internet viewing, motion detection, night-vision and a built-in network video recording system. The camera's 60 IR LEDs providing night vision up to 98.4' (30 m).
As if all this weren't cool enough, this nifty device is even smartphone compatible, working with iPhone, Android and Blackberry. It also provides Internet viewing via the standard Safari, Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers (no app necessary), as well as other standard browsers, though there will be no sound capability in this case. A versatile piece of equipment, this camera functions well as an iPhone baby monitor or as part of a home / office security system with remote internet monitoring capability.

I knew nothing about surveillance camers, but wanted to put some outside the home. Not an IT pro, but comfortable with home networking.
Serious outdoor cameras start at $1200.00. Foscam (and clones/rebrands) were widely available at $100.00 or so. Be good to learn on. I went for the two-fer deal, in case one came DOA.
THE CAMERA. Not 'rock solid' construction but should last for a while under the wide eves of our house. The mount is a joke but is 1/4 x 20 standard camera thread. Pigtail from camera is about 3 ft. terminating in: 1) RJ ethernet connector; 2) connector for power supply (which has another 5 ft of low voltage wire); 3) a reset button. Need to think about how to weatherproof all that.
NETWORKING. Decent 'Quick Start' guide. Software includes program to find any Foscams on the ethernet LAN. Then jump to the http (web server) within the camera. (First connection wants to be with Microsoft's IE browser. Later login with Firefox is different but no problem.) Once in, you monitor the camera, setup the wireless IP, etc.
SOFTWARE. Allows monitoring of up to 9 Foscams. The two cameras had different releases of both firmware and web server. Went to Foscam's web page to update. Versions in one camera were more recent than 'current release' at Foscam.com (!?). Also, a note that updating firmware "could brick the camera. If it works, leave it alone."
So far have stayed within the LAN. Not tried email alerts to cell phone, monitor and control from off-site, etc. Foscam offers to host off-site for a while for free, if you want to let them into your LAN. I've been using the open source 'iSpy' - a bit more sophisticated monitoring, but have to use on-camera web server to change camera controls.
IMAGE. Daytime (color) image is *nice*. Night (B+W) image stinks. Huge array of low-red LEDs draws attention to camera. Objects close in totally whited out. In a room, with reflecting walls, might work OK. Outside only mid-distance is properly illuminated. Regardless, image is unuseable for identification because of long frame-exposure time unless the perp is standing stock-still.
SUMMARY. Really nice daytime image; not so much at night. Easy to network. Can't beat it for the price. Don't know how they will hold up outside to winter cold, summer heat (with the LEDs on at night, the camera power supply gets warm), or morning dew on the wireless antenna.

Bought this for a WX camera. Due to a flickering problem between light and dark areas I had to point it more to the ground then the sky. Hopefully the problem will be solved with a future firmware update. Also, the picture is a little fuzzy. Otherwise the night vision is very good for seeing creaters within fifty feet or so. The alarm system works and sends e-mails. I had very little problem setting it up as wireless. Just wished the power cord was a little longer.

Comments about Foscam FI8905W Outdoor Wireless IP Camera (Silver):
The FI8905W Outdoor Wireless IP Camera camera has a great price point on B&H but is a very unreliable and borderline faulty product. The housing is sturdy but the mounting arm is really a complete piece of junk.
My first camera came with broken internal parts and was quickly replaced by B&H.
My second camera died after 3 months of normal use. I basically had to beg, lie, and threaten to expose Foscam support to assist me with an RMA.
4 weeks later, my third camera now installed has a flickering/flashing image during daylight viewing. The firmware is current and up to date. Searching online reveals I am not alone.
This camera does require some more advanced knowledge of networking to configure properly.
No point in paying for a sub-par product that has no to little support from the manufacturer. Simply a waste of money and time.

Comments about Foscam FI8905W Outdoor Wireless IP Camera (Silver):
First off, hats off to B&H. Shipped out same day as my order, at my door in 4 days, and that was over a weekend.
I've used several indoor Foscams. This one proves to be easy to setup and use. Good video quality and night vision is also quite good. The physical size is large, mainly I think, to accomodate the 60 LEDs.
Unfortunately this cam has a 30 degree field of view, and so it was too narrow for my application. This one is going back only for that reason and I will probably order the FI8904W with a 45 degree FOV.
The mounting bracket is also kind of flimsy, I don't know how long it would hold up especially if subject to windy conditions or a lot of precipitation.

I received a camera with a loose part rattling around in the housing. BH promptly exchanged it for a replacement. Overall the camera has good picture quality. The FOV is a bit limited. Setup is easy but the client application and remote viewing setup requires some intermediate networking skills.

I use this to monitor my car outside of our Apt. I haven't been able to figure out how to use the video capturing software yet and have been using "Debut video capture software" instead. If you need an ip camera with IR technology built-in and don't want to spend a great deal of $ and have some understanding of wireless networking, then I would say just go for it. I personally wished I had chosen a good webcam instead. The reason? The FI8905W only works with IR if it's outside. Inside, at night, the IR reflects of the window and makes the camera useless. But for $ , I'm not too disappointed.

This was the perfect product for watching my driveway, especially at night. It has a stationary, full color lens with great night vision (led) that easily covers the area I needed it for (about 24 wide x 35 long.) I mounted the camera just under the peak of the gable end over the garage door so it is high and straight on. I did have to cut off the camera power end to convert to my power source (I purchased a seperate piece that extends both power and network across ethernet cable so I did not need to install an electrical outlet or figure out an extension cord scheme.) The camera has wireless which easily connects to my household network (just follow the directions carefully!) I have a smartphone app that easily picks up the camera view at any time. And I set this unit up to record on motion and save pictures and video to my computer like a DVR. Awesome stuff. This is not a small unit in comparrison to others out there and the LED does glow for the night vision mod; I call it my cyclops but it adds as another security feature as a noticiable deterent! It does not pan or tilt and does not have sound but records this large area great.

It's bulkier than expected, installation is easy and the wireless part works fine. Nighttime performance is good, noise level is low but in broad daylight the image is burned in. The brightness and contrast adjustment makes little difference. Putting an ND filter in front of the lens makes a dramatic improvement in image quality but then it has to be taken off at night. So the lack of an iris in the objective makes the camera almost useless here in the south-west during the day. Indoor works fine. I've never tried recording video with it.

Solid piece of equipment.
Images were poor, especially after a few days of being on wireless.
I actually returned it because the images were not useful for identifying known people, let alone tresspassers.

I think the camera works great. Once I got it set up it works fine. I had isues trying to watch the recorded video in Windows Media Player, but I switched to watch in Quick Time Player and have had no problems. Unfortunately, the tech support form Foscam is very poor. I feel the manual is almost adeguate, but needs more explanation on setup. If one has some IT sense, you can get through it, but I thing the novice may have a problem.
