Comments about Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DT Standard Zoom Lens:
This lens came with my A-57 as a kit lens. As far as image quality it actualy performs fairly well, good sharp images with suprisingly good corner sharpness! The lens has pretty much no coma problems when taking night or low light pics of say street lights. Produces little to no vignetting.
Barrel distortion can be strong when at 18mm, and the Bokeh effect is really a little harsh and disappointing. Build quality is sorta on the cheap side with a plastic mount. There is no lens hood supplied with this and if you purchase one make sure it is the barrel type and not a petal shape as contrary to the specs on this lens the filter ring and hood mount DO rotate makeing a petal type lens hood useless.
I use the hood from my old Minolta 75-300mm D zoom (55mm thread also) on this lens and have had good results from it when needed.
To conclude this is a decent "kit" lens which produces fairly good image quality. The build quality is a little cheap and only time will tell how long it will hold up. Only rated at 3 stars due to: No lens hood supplied, mount spins during focusing and plastic mount.

I got this lens when I purchased my camera, and I can tell you I take amazing shots with it, I'm thinking to upgrade my lens pretty soon but I honestly have no complain about it. Take a look at my pics and see yourself.
Comments about Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DT Standard Zoom Lens:
The quality is great and the versitility for landscape shots is unbeatable unless you want to get that cliff on the other side of the mountains. There is where the problem arises. Besides the short zoom it is a great lens.
