The ASUS P9X79 Pro Motherboard is compatible with Intel CPUs featuring the LGA 2011 socket, including the 2nd Generation Core i7 processors. The board supports SSD caching via a pair of SATA 6GB/s ports, USB 3.0, quad channel DDR3 memory, quad-GPU CrossFireX and NIVIDIA 3-Way SLI graphics cards, and many other advanced technologies.
Other advantages include the new BIOS Flashback feature; a system allowing you to write new BIOS without the need for CPU or DRAM to be installed. DIGI+ technology provides digital power delivery; which is adjustable to both memory and CPU components. 6 adjustable fan headers are included on the board, controllable by both software and BIOS implementations. Digital controllers are also included in order to increase the CPU and DRAM overclocking range and allow for better performance more easily.
The P9X79 also supports up to 64GB of system memory with an 8-DIMM design. This allows users to get the most out of their system by setting up larger RAM disks and maximizing the rate at which programs can be accessed and transferred. The exclusive SSD caching feature helps to boost system performance by using an installed SSD with unlimited capacity as a cache for frequently accessed data. The performance offered by an SSD allows for instant activation, no booting time, and data loss prevention with backup functionality.

- Utilizing serial point-to-point links, this chipset increases performance, bandwidth, and stability while supporting the 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 processor family for the LGA 2011 socket.

- Designed to accommodate up to 4 graphics cards, the motherboard is compatible with both SLI and CrossFireX architectures.
- DIGI+ Power Control
- Digital power delivery via 3 voltage controllers, including DRAM controllers that offer precise memory tuning. Power is controlled and manipulable in order to provide the best performance and stability on demand. The digital controllers also allow for an increased overclocking range; aided by an assortment of power output option and a graphical UEFI BIOS, overclocking very large memory setups is no more difficult than mainstream motherboards.

BT GO! includes several features for users to remotely sync and transfer files between devices and even overclock your PC; all accessible through a user-friendly ASUS interface.
- UEFI BIOS
- ASUS UEFI BIOS is the first mouse-controlled graphical BIOS interface, allowing for greater functionality than keyboard-only commands and a more user-friendly design. EZ Mode allows users to drag and drop boot priorities and includes advanced DRAM settings via a dedicated memory info page. Keyboard shortcuts are also supported for greater convenience and ASUS DRAM SPD (Serial Presence Detect) helps with troubleshooting faulty DIMMs and difficult POST situations.
- USB BIOS Flashback
- USB BIOS Flashback is a highly convenient way to flash the BIOS; affording overclockers the chance to try new UEFI BIOS versions easily and without entering their existing BIOS or OS. It works without key components including the CPU and memory and functions quickly after plugging in any USB storage device. It is automatically flashed using ATX standby power.

- PCIe 3.0 and Power eSATA 6GB/s Ready
- Improved encoding and twice the performance of the current PCIe 2.0, PCIe 3.0 is able to achieve a maximum of 32GB/s bandwidth with an x16 link. It is also backward compatible to PCIe 1.0 and 2.0. Power eSATA 6GB/s is twice as fast as previous versions and does not require an additional power adapter, 2 extra ports are provided for greater scalability, faster data retrieval, and double the bandwidth of current bus systems.

Using with an i7-3930K and nvidia gtx 670.
Plenty of sata connections more than enough connections for case fans. Power button and debug led come in handy with troubleshooting pre-install.
Spacing on pci slots could make it difficult to place multiple graphics cards, particularly if you need to use the bottom slot.
