The SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player (8GB) has some pretty good things going for it. For one thing, it's super-small and light. Secondly, as the name suggests, it clips onto your clothing or bag. Once you clip the Clip Zip on your person and turn it on you can forget it's even there, and just chill out to your tunes. The Clip Zip also happens to be light on your wallet.

In addition to playing your music, it also plays the FM radio and audiobooks, does voice and radio recordings, and acts as a stopwatch. The 8GB internal memory can be given a boost using optional microSDHC memory cards as well. And menu navigation and album art are displayed on the 1.1" color screen. The simple control buttons on the unit also make it easy to switch between songs and adjust volume, even when you're doing sports or other activities.

My experience with the player has been phenomenal. The only issues I've experienced with it are not hardware-related, but related to the sound tracks themselves. Bad files or badly tagged files can cause the firmware to crash. You'll then have to reset the player by either pressing the power button for 30secs or by connecting it to the computer. Many of the negative feedback that the Clip gets in other places is from people who are ignorant of this fact, blaming the player instead. You can use foobar2000 and MP3Val to check file integrity and properly tag your sound files prior to uploading them to your Clip. You may find info on how to do that by Googling it (or by joining a forum such as Anything But iPod, as I did). The Clip Zip comes with earbuds and a shortish USB 2.0 A to Micro-USB B cable... which is why I added a 6' cable from Tripp Lite in my original order. The people at ABI (Anything But iPod) have amassed a great deal of info on the Clip Zip from many users, which I condense and editorialize below--and I agree completely with it. BTW, I am in no way, shape, or form part of ABI. I am just a normal user who has found that community incredibly helpful.(1)Sound quality – sounds as good as any top tier digital audio player (DAP) with higher quality replacement in-ear monitors (IEMs)/headphones. The IEMs that come with the Clip Zip are adequate, but I quickly upgraded them witha pair of SONYs. Better headphones do help to give you a better aural experience. It's the kind of thing you have to hear it to believe it.(2)Size – very small. Great for use in the gym, jogging, etc.(3)Price – one of the lowest cost, quality DAPs on the market.(4) MicroSD expansion slot. Up to 40GB of storage (8GB device + 32 GB MicroSD). (5)Build Quality – can take heavy hits and keep on working, at least in my and other people's experience.(6)Clip – Can clip almost anywhere, shirt, belt, etc.(7) MSC (Mass Storage Class) or MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode - Best to choose one rather than leave it on auto-detect as auto-detect may cause issues.(8) EU volume limit - This "limitation" is easily overridden by changing firmware setup to any other country. (9) Album art - Not the main reason to get one, but it's a nice extra.(10)Voice Recorder - which can also record the FM radio(11)FM Radio- It has great radio reception in remote places where other players get no signal(12) Alphabet Browsing on Zip original firmware(13) Standard Mini-USB-Connector(14) Display works in sunlight(15) Perfectly fine useable firmware (original firmware)(16) Firmware updates(17) Very easy to operate with one hand- unlike touchscreen players- which generally seem to need two.Maybe I should also talk about Rockbox. Rockbox is an open source firmware replacement for a growing number of digital audio players. Friendly Warning: using Rockbox may void your digital audio player's warranty, so this is not for everyone. That said, it's an amazing firmware, pushing the Clip's potential to greater heights. For instance, it has no problem using 64GB MicroSD cards to give you a whopping 72GB of storage. The current, original firmware will probably not play that well with 64GB MicroSD cards due to its limitations (that might change in a future firmware update, though, who knows).Rockbox is obviously NOT for casual users, or for those who do NOT want to void the player's warranty. It's mainly for more tech-oriented users those who like to push the technological envelope.

Comments about Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player (8GB, Black):

I've only had this for about a week, but have found it to be fantastic value for money. I wanted something with physical buttons but a small screen and lots of storage space and this is perfect. It will take a 32gb microSDHC card to give it a capacity of 40GB, all for under $ !Sound quality is quite nice (with good earbuds or headphones), and the controls aren't bad- though they take some getting used to.I use this to store my entire music collection, and it does the job nicely. The only major issue I've had is its annoying need to "refresh" after you've added or deleted any files on it. With a 32GB microSD card, this takes a few minutes. Even without doing a refresh, it still takes a little while to start up. I think it's worth putting up with these few annoyances though! Also, I wish it had a replaceable battery.

Comments about Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player (8GB, Grey):

Though not exactly the best on its own, this mp3 player can have its features exponentially expanded by installing the free Rockbox firmware. Once that's done, it becomes a music-playing powerhouse. One of the odd little inconsistencies is the lack of a slide lock, but since the seldom-used power button functions as one, that's not really a concern. As far as audio quality goes, it's about the same as your average smartphone more or less. If you need a cheap, small, lightweight mp3 player to take on the go, this is a rather good choice.

Tiny MP3 player with a great capacity and lots of cool functions including recording and a radio, too. I upgraded to very good earphones, which make this awesome in sound, I am also loading the such mini card for more capacity. I have actually purchased two more of these as special gifts to special friends. Price comparison means I can enjoy this item without breaking the bank. Highly recommend!!

Low cost, great format support (mp3, AAC, .wma, , aud, .wav, .flac, .ogg) and expandable memory large capacity with ease of use and portability. No need to get forced into the limited closed architecture of everything Apple/iTunes and you have all the speed and flexibility you need with it just showing up as a flash drive when you hook it up to your computer. Drag, drop, DONE!I love being able to mod/"hack" it with RockBox firmware and all the very advanced user configurable features it adds (detailed EQs, compressors, pitch change, custom UI themes and more)Don't let the small size fool you, because this is also one of the best sounding mp3 players. I'm a music producer and audio engineer and use it to judge mixes in real world listening situations and it never fails to deliver. Using it with pro level earphones like Westones is pure joy.Being a touring musician, all my gear gets used and knocked around pretty hard and my Clip Zip is no exception. My first one died after 4 years of devoted service and I missed it so much I bought TWO more just in case Sansa discontinues it. Re-installed Rockbox, dragged all my backed up audio onto the internal 8GB, swapped my 32GB MicroSD card and back up and running in a flash. And, at $[$]a pop, it's a no brainer. I still haven't spent as much as if I had bought an iPod and another day outside of the over-hyped/overpriced Apple paradigm is a good day indeed!

I have had other Sandisk players and happy with it so when my old nano died, I was happy to go with this. Only problem I have with it is that the battery length could be better. The cable could be longer too but not as much as an issue for me. But it is very easy to use and the sound is very good. I also like how the headphone buds fit. That is usually an issue for me with the earbuds that come with music players.

I use my MP3 at the gym all the time. It has all the options I need for accessing my favorite music. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to access the various functions, but after that I'm able to change it while running around the track. It recharges pretty quickly. At this point I have no cons.

Outstanding mp3 player- tried a Sony @ a hundred dollars plus did not have near punch the SanDisk has- would highly recommend Sansa clip to anyone (previously owned SanDisk should have never tried anything else)

Comments about Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player (8GB, Grey):

It's light, tiny, and expandable with a (not included)32gb microsd card. And with the stopwatch and radio features, and there's no better player for the gym or running. It's so lightweight, if it's dropped it will simply dangle at the end of the headphone cord.

i bought this mp3 player because i was unhappy with the sound quality of my ipod nano. and i was utterly suprised at how much more punch that the sansa has compaired to the nano, this is a huge upgrade in sound quality from an ipod in my opinion. and you can clip it anywhere! one thing though is i wouldent recomend hooking it up to a portable amp, it just dosent sound as good and defeats the purpose of having a mini mp3 player. i would say this is a great mp3 player for jogging, working out, or any other activity that falls under that category.

This is the forth Sansa mp3 player I have bought over the last five years. All are still working & I am as happy with this one so far (had it two weeks) as with the others. It operates easily & has a very good volume control range.

Comments about Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player (8GB, Grey):

This is a nice player. The instructions leave a lot to be desired (they also must be downloaded). Their service (online chat) is okay. Putting these issues aside, I still give this player 4 stars. You will need aftermarket earphones. The ones supplied with the unit are really bad.
