Comments about Ricoh GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

This is the quintessential pocket street photography camera. Super discrete, compact, black, silent, and excellent image quality. The resemblance that these images have with film grain is amazing. It is pricey, but you get a clear 28mm f1.9 lens on a pocketable camera.

The snap-focus is a street photographer's dream. I set it at about 1.5meters and by pressing down the shutter button quickly, it jumps to that focus point and takes the photo immediately.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

After researching several compact cameras that are durable, shoot raw/jpeg, and are fully manual. The Ricoh GRD IV was at the top of the list, what sent it over the top was seeing the quality of images it produced in low light, action, and landscape settings. A couple of my favorite things about the Ricoh GRD IV is the Picture Quality/Size (4:3, 3:2, 16:9, etc.), Black and White setting, Manual focus. The only negative feedback would be I wish the video quality was a little better.

I love this camera. If shooting in bright conditions, the 3-inch Hoodman Loupe is a very useful accessory for seeing the LCD screen when composing shots on the Ricoh. It is much lower cost than the Ricoh external viewfinder. And I can use the Hoodman with my Nikon D7000 or any other digital camera for viewing the LCD in bright sunlight...a very handy accessory.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

I was looking for a small pocketable camera as I was tired of dragging around with large camera bags full of gear. My main concerns were image quality, a fixed non-zoom high quality wide-angle lens and RAW option. To find such a camera is pretty hard because most cameras in this class are targeted at consumers and not so much at 'prosumers' like myself. After some research I ended up buying this camera and I am very glad I did! What I like best are the crisp, snappy and sharp photographs it produces. This definitely the result of a very good lens design. Build quality is amazing too. Overall I am very pleased and I highly recommend this camera to people looking for a pocketable camera but still demand the highest possible imaga quality. This camera delivers like no other in its class.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

What can I say, I guess I root for the underdogs sometimes. Now that I own a Pentax K10D and a Ricoh GR Digital IV AND being a previous Canon owner, I must say that there are indeed just as good, if not better, cameras as the Nikons and Canons out there IF you look in the right places and do your research. The Ricoh GR IV is for the person that wants all the key components that a SLR offers but wants a take anywhere camera. The things I love about the Ricoh GRIV are…object tracking focus, RAW images, on screen histogram, lots of customizable features, GREAT QUALITY PHOTOS, fast focus, great macro capability, very compact, great little programmable flash, awesome control dials, AAA battery capability. I will say that it soaks up the AAA's in no time but at least it has that option plus the battery it comes with lasts forever when charged. Pentax prime lenses are among the best and since owning one, I have actually moved away from zoom lenses and have learned to appreciate primes, therefore, the GRIV was right up my alley with a terrific fixed 28mm (6mm) lens. I don't really care about the video mode but its just fine as well, plugged right into my widescreen tv.

Just being picky here but I would love the ability to have shutter speed permanently displayed in aperture mode and have my aperture permanently displayed in shutter speed mode etc. Would love an optical viewfinder. Also would love if 'depth of field bar' could be displayed with ALL focus modes and not just manual. 4 years ago I became a Pentax fan with the K10D and now I'm a Ricoh fan with the GR Digital IV. BTW, much like I almost got a Nikon over a Pentax four years ago, I almost went with a Fujifilm X10 but got the Ricoh instead, no regrets with any of those decisions.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

I love this camera, my favourite compact. It has all the necessary controls PASM, Auto and MY 1, MY 2. But nothing unnecessary like scene modes. The autofocus is super fast and the camera is silent. The menu system allows for a lot of customisation of the back dials. The camera interface is fast and intuitive. Fantastic out of camera BW jpegs, plus some great colour modes like bleach bypass, cross process and positive film. Shoots raw too.
Overall an amazing camera, solid magnesium alloy body, all black finish makes this camera very discreet and professional looking. I love it.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

The GRDIV is a gem of a little camera. It is incredibly small, light, and slim and fits into a pocket with ease. The images surprised me with their sharpness considering the smaller sensor. I also appreciate the fixed f/1.9 lens which, while not for everybody, is optically excellent. My only complaint is that when shooting in RAW only the image review is fairly useless for checking sharpness. I don't understand why Ricoh can't make it display raw images better. But once the shots are on the computer they are fine. I would suggest shooting RAW+JPEG to get a more useful image review. Also, you should shoot RAW for best results.
Overall, I would heartily recommend this camera, especially for street shooting and overall portability. Not to mention the AF is instantaneous.

this camera is wonderful. I used to own a dslr, but decided to sell it and get this. I love how you can just bring this anywhere and shoot anything and no one cares compare to how dslr is so big, but of course its not going to be better then dslr in image quality but its great if you know what your doing around this 28mm area.

Small and lightweight and feels good in the hand with a nice rubber grip. Excellent controls that are easy to learn. Photos have gorgeous colors and are very sharp. The sensor is small, but I would rather have a point & shoot that fits in the pocket than a bigger one with a larger sensor. In my opinion the best point & shoot on the market if you're content with a fixed 28mm and don't need zoom or 1080p video.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

The image quality of this camera is insanely great. The lens is really fast and produces very sharp images even wide open. The Macro range is also great, albeit the distortion of 28mm wide angle lens.

The build quality is great - it doesn't feel like it will fall apart compared to other plastic digital compact cameras. It is a little bigger than most though, so I needed to buy a pouch that's around Canon G12 size to fit it.

There are lots of customisations possible, if that's what you like. You can set so that you can access your favourite features by just one or two clicks. Before you do all this customisations, the operation speed will be a bit slow as you're trying to figure out how to access the menus you want. As with all digital cameras, dedicate 1-2 days just to find your way around the camera.

Lastly, before you get this kind of camera, make sure that 28mm lens is right for you! This doesn't have a zoom lens, but then again as the trade-off, you get a great image quality that's far ahead than any other digital pockets. The video mode also only offers VGA 640x480 - so if video/filming is your main interest, consider other options.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

As soon as I picked the camera up the first thing I noticed was that it feels really good in your hand, it is not too light and not too heavy. The camera has very intuitive controls and it is very easy to learn how to use it. The manual was not much help but the camera is very easy to use so you will not need it much.
The camera is perfect for street photography and travel especially B & W digital photography. I am only starting out but the quality of photos that come out of the camera, make this purchase all the more pleasing. A man even stopped me in the street to go on and on about how much he loved the GRD IV! The video in the camera is pretty good quality too, nothing to write home about but good.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

I started off with the Ricoh GRD 3 when it first came out, and since then, I've also acquired the Ricoh GXR and two A12 modules 28mm & 50mm. Ricoh's ergonomics and GUI is top notch. Image quality is sharp from the center to corners, and color rendering has a sort of richness that is similar to Leica's.

Comments about GR DIGITAL IV Digital Camera (Black):

Wallet, Cellphone and GRD4 is the order I stuff my pockets when I go out. GRD4 is a fully manually operable compact with more than reasonable IQ. I set up the presets on the top dial to various settings and pick one out according to the need. There is one for monochrome, one for vivid, a bleach bypass, a street setup etc. Now what makes it my preferred camera than even my DSLR? Noiseless snap shot setting. Yes the camera will capture images instantly almost as fast as an slr, and without a clang clock noise. And f1.9 is a great plus for this machine. I do not have much to say with respect to what is not great about this camera. But I can say this for others. They will complain about the lack of zoom - the camera has a fixed 28mm. I wish the camera came with a bag and a neck strap. But I have never clicked as many pros for anything else before.
