The Vello EW-60CT Tulip Lens Hood is designed for use with Canon's EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6, II, III, IV, V, 18-55mm, IS, IS II & 28-90mm lenses. Please click here for a complete compatibility list, and to see a list of available lens hood options.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution. The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage with the minimum amount of weight and hood area.
Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

The Vello EW-60CT Tulip Lens Hood fits my Canon EOS 18-55 mm kit lens fine. It is a snug fit, but I feel more confident that it's going to stay put. I had a tulip-shaped hood on my previous bridge camera, and loved the shape. I find this tulip lens hood to be compact, attractive, and more importantly it does what it's supposed to do! The Vello lens hood was a better price than the Canon hood that was recommended for my lens. I'm able to leave it attached to the lens, and it takes up very little extra room in my camera bag. When used in conjuction with a u.v. filter, I feel it also offers my lens more protection from being accidentally bumped. Satisfied with the product, and the price paid.

This lens hood is nicely made and fit my Canon 18-55mm IS II lens just fine. The problem with this combination is that the front of the 18-55 rotates while focusing, which causes this directional "tulip" lens hood to no longer be properly oriented with the larger sections at the top and bottom of the lens.I'm not sure why one would recommend this hood for a lens that rotates. I returned it and bought a completely round hood instead, which is what you'll want in this case. Stay away from the tulip hoods if you have an 18-55mm kit lens.

Comments about Vello EW-60CT Dedicated Tulip Lens Hood:
It fits well, looks nice and is built well. Like some other reviewers say, when you zoom in or out the hood turns with the lense and doesnt keep the larger petal from block the sun from the top (which I and everyone else has found to be a pretty bad design flaw).

Comments about Vello EW-60CT Dedicated Tulip Lens Hood:
After talking with a sales representative at B&H who helped me to select the correct lens hood to fit my lens, it arrived just days after my order was placed. The lens fits perfectly and fits snugly into my case. I can still even put my lens cap on with the hood in place.

Who designed this thing anyway? I should have looked more closely at the lens and thought about it harder, but the front element on my kit lens rotates, so when the tulip hood is mounted, it rotates too as the lens is focused. Get the round hood instead. This lens hood states on the box that it works for a couple different lenses, but as far as I can tell they all have hood bayonets that rotate too. I am not sure if it was designed to take this into account, but at 15mm and with the focus racked all the way to one end or the other, the hood does create a shadow in the corners of the frame.

I bought this to reduce the glare from the sun as well as to protect my lenses and filters from bumps and such. It does the trick, but isn't easy to get on and off the lens making it difficult to swap out my filters. While it does its job, I am guessing there is a model that might do it better with an easier on/off swap.
