I ran into two problems: Vegas 12 refuses to recognize the capture facility which is a bit annoying but not a showstopper. The other issue was much more serious.
I noodled around for hours trying to capture from my old Philips dual VCR/DVD unit. It would pick up the audio fine, but the video signal was just snow. Yet if I switched the unit to DVD everything was crystal clear. Nothing I did would give me video. In the end I concluded that either the dual-output on the combo unit put out a non-standard video signal, or that the capture unit was just sensitive to that brand for some other reason.
When I tried to capture of my dedicated Panasonic VCR everything was fine. Pity I didn't try that in the first place and save myself hours of frustration!
So my advice is if you're having trouble capturing try to test it on a second VCR.

This product does what it advertises -- it has saved me a lot of money in transfering Video 8 cassettes to DVD. The resulting quality is better than I expected.

Comments about Hauppauge USB-Live2 Analog Video Digitizer:
This product was very easy to install (Windows 7) and the accompanying software popped up easily. We are using it to capture s-video (composite is also an option) output from a medical imaging device; it is much higher quality capture than our old Dazzle Fusion capture device. We are purchasing another. It was very helpful in the TV software package to go through and delete all "channels" except the one that you are using; this saves time adjusting a channel once it is up and going. We are very happy with this device.

I use the hardware to transfer vhs tapes to my hard drive. then I convert to mpeg2 or other formats for editing. This way, I can capture just the portions I want, and then create a new DVD from multiple vhs tapes.
USB-LIVE2 does not time out, or have video and audio sycn issues. Works great for me.

I had the USB-Live1 with my XP pro, but had to go the USB-Live2 when I went to Windows 7 to be able to transfer video from my video recorder to computer, easy, simple, I also use it to view and record images from a CCTV camera. Simple and easy to use.

I used the Hauppage USB-Live2 to copy hours of home movies from VHS to my computer and then to DVD. Installation was very simple and the USB-Live2 worked great with my old VCR.
The supplied software did a fine job of reading the signal from the VCR and then converting from .TS (raw streamed files) to .AVI.
Highly recommended.

Had one DOA (USB overvoltage error in Windows 7), but B&H was great about the RMA process.we use two of these to get return program video into SKYPE for our web studio. i'm using the composite input, running from an analog D/A. I've noticed there's no de-interlacing, so the the return video has finite interlacing going on. not a big deal yet, but could cause issues if you're using skype to link up studios.Be sure to download the latest drivers from the site.

I purchased a Sony HDR-FX7 video camera and found that my laptop did not have a slot for the ilink cable or for an ilink to adapter card.
After many hours of frustrated searching on the Internet I came to this B&H website and was advised about the USB-Live2 Analog Video Digitizer by Hauppauge.
I am very pleased with the results. The software installed easily, my laptop had no problems picking it up. Recording the videos was also easy through the software interface that comes with the product. The only glitch seems to be in switching between the record mode and other buttons, which caused the software to pause for an extended time.
As for visual quality - The results look better to me than when I was using the ilink cable - much to my pleasant surprise.
