The Black Widow Holster Kit from Spider Camera Holster provides you with a comfortable way to wear your camera on your hip and have it at the ready when the shot appears. Using your camera's tripod quick release plate, the Black Widow fits on either your own belt or Black Widow's Belt and permits rapid release of the camera when you need it. It's secure since the camera locks back into place when you replace it back on your hip.

The beauty of the system is that it leaves you hands free to pursue other endeavors such as hiking, cell phones, eating or talking on your cell phone. Your camera remains securely attached to the holster, moving smoothly with your body as you move through the streets.

It's a small lightweight unit that can be stored in your gear bag or luggage when you travel. Since it is so small and unobtrusive, it's a discrete unit that can be worn either over or under your coat - almost like a cowboy might wear his six shooter. Simple attach your camera to your tripod's quick release unit and then to the Black Widow Holster. It's an all-in-one way to have your DSLR with you while eliminating traditional straps that can often be the cause of neck or back irritation. The included Black Widow Pad offers additional cushioning against your body and makes the system even more comfortable to wear. The pad includes an elastic, touch fastened loop that can either be tucked away or used to secure your camera against your body for additional comfort. This feature will be a benefit when you're on the trail or street for long periods.

Been using this with an OM-D (with wrist strap), and found it super convenient way to keep camera by side and ready to use, without straps over neck/shoulder.

In the end, just been using the holster itself, find the belt and side padding kind of dorky. I'd just buy the holster itself if doing again.

One thing that would be nice if there was a way to attach the holster to things other than belts (e.g. backpack harnesses) - but guess that would add weight/reduce stength.

Also would be nice if didn't require a wrench to tighten. If black rapid fasteners don't need it, why should this?

Light weight, well built holster. Nice belt and pad too!

Minus one star for not including a wrench to attach/remove the pin. (I'm thinking one of those flat wrenches, like what you'd get with furniture for assembly...Now I have to buy a small wrench for my camera bag!)

Minus one star for requiring a washer on the pin. A rubber or split washer might also be a wise choice. I don't really think I *need* the washer for the pin, but your instructions say I do. (But minor bonus for including two washers, not that I won't lose them quickly!)

I can imagine a much better way to design the pin (with a kept washer and "flanges" that allow me to finger-tighten securely.)

If you use a lens that has a tripod mount, you're probably not going to get benefit from the pad. I tried my Sony 70-400 by attaching the pin to the tripod mount and it rests completely below the pad. (And, of course, the pad's strap is useless in that situation.) But for more "normal" primes you'll be happy with this.

Unsure whether I can figure out a way to remove the camera from the holster with only one hand...Need more practice and time with the holster.

      Spider holster rocks

Comments about Spider Camera Holster Black Widow Holster Kit:

Can believe how fast this device can detach . Also having the freedom of being strapless is a plus.i actually bought the pro base so I could add my tripod base along with the quick release system. I did find that having ing the pro base and tripod base all on the camera a little bigger but great if bouncing back and forth between tripod and hand modes. Overall great product

Added this holster on to a Spider Pro belt for a second camera. Wouldn't hang the 70-200, but works nice for medium-size DSLR and medium-size lens.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster Black Widow Holster Kit:

I purchased this so I could use my Canon RebelT2i camera while hiking. I have tried using a camera bag, stowing the camera in a Camelbak, letting it hang from my neck by the strap, and a camera backpack. The Black Widow holster is far superior to any of these other methods. The camera was always secure at my side until I needed it. I did a 7-mile hike to try it out before I did a longer 18.5 mile, 3400 ft. elevation change hike. It worked great in both cases.
The pad with the additional velcro attachment I only use when I want to carry a zoom lense. The zipper section in the belt lets you stow a few small items. I keep an extra SD card and mini-wrench for attaching/removing the pin.
The only downside is that it can be a hassle to switch to a tripod unless you buy the special thin plate accessory.

On our latest trip with our 10 month old this was the the most useful for stowing the camera away and keeping up with the adventure with the family. It only took a matter of minutes to figure out how to get my DSLR out one handed and get those precious shots and then back away to point at animals with my son and wife. All those vacationers with there neck straps looked so uncomfortable and kept having to put their gear in an unsafe manner to get comfortable. My recommendation, if you like hands and neck free, simple to get in and out of shooting, get this item its so worth it.

Worked out great with a d7000, bettery grip and 28mm to 300mm nikon lense. Although it is not recomended for this much weight it is just fine, but i wish the leg pad was much larger. I also added the optional heavy offset camera mounting plate so the camera would hang sideways and i could mount my tripod plate to it.
