This is my second Harmony remote. I purchased a 659 several years ago and it is still going strong. The old 659 is going to the bedroom to control a Directv DVR, Vizio HDTV, Samsung Blu Ray player, and a Sony sound bar I recently purchased. The addition of the sound bar finally made me break down and buy the second Harmony - 4 remotes were just too many to handle.
The new 650 has already been configured for use in the den for another Directv DVR, a Samsung HD big screen, Roku, Panasonic DVD player, and Yamaha receiver. The setup was seamless and took all of 10-15 minutes. The online setup is simple for even a novice like me. All you have to do is type in the make and model number of each device and the setup wizard does the rest. I configured all 5 devices on the first try and was ready to go.

After spending a few hours trying to do a simple setup, I called Logitech for help. I was on the phone with them for about an hour trying to get the remote to work. They were very patient and helpful with me - and informed me that it appeared my remote had a hardware error, as its not behaving as expected. I am returning it to B&H, and going to try another one. I will update my rating based on the experience of the 2nd one being sent.
Logitech support was very good, and B&H handled return w/o incident. Just waiting for new one to arrive.

Comments about Harmony/Logitech Harmony 650 Advanced Universal Remote:

No "Universal Remote" will truly replace the individual remotes that come with your individual components - BUT this is one of the closest you'll find - at a reasonable price. I have a "new" TV an "old" receiver, an "old" DVD carousel player and a "new" DirecTV set top box. All components were in the database and all I had to do was select them - the rest was just some customizing based on our usage... I've used the Harmony line from Logitech for many years. GREAT products. Just get the right one for your needs.

      Great product

      By Andy Zed

Comments about Harmony/Logitech Harmony 650 Advanced Universal Remote:

I have a harmony one myself and love it, so when I needed a way to help my parents operate their home theater I went right for a harmony remote. The activity buttons made it easy for them to understand, and I can adjust their setup at my convenience to work out any issues they have. Mom was also able to use the help buttons to correct problems on her own so we all are happy with it.

It took a few hours to set it up properly due to uncommon equipment input on my DVR. Once it's set up it works great. This is the third Harmony I've set up for friends/relatives and they are all happy with them.I docked it one star because the firmware wouldn't let me rearange the screen functions.

It had all of my devices, including a few obscure ones. It's relatively easy to set up, though there were some problems completing sync.As for using, it works as expected. The only 'nit' is that it takes a while to go through all of the commands to turn everything on and to the correct signal. Once you get used to it, it's not a big deal.

Comments about Harmony/Logitech Harmony 650 Advanced Universal Remote:

Straightforward in setup and a delight in operation. Would like a larger preset memory (only 23 stations), but otherwise a great unit. Nice styling and great ergonomics. No, it's not an app-laden tablet, but it gets the navigation job done for much less and appears very complete and up to date in its own right.Much better as a "single" remote unit than any of the others it now replaces, and using one remote just leaps and bounds better when it's engineered as well as this unit. Tip: Verify your hardware support before buying. I actually had fun setting up this thing, and can't imagine why some are so negative about interfacing this remote. It's a keeper.

This remote is awesome. Plugged it into my computer, went online to set up and was ready in 15 minutes. Now I push one button and sit back and watch. Went from 4 remotes and total confusion to even my parents knowing how to use it. I hooked up an old RCA VCR, RCA DVD Surround Sound system, Arris cable box and LG Widescreen HD TV. Best advice I could give is to make sure you have all of the make and model numbers and how they connect to each other when you go online. Would buy again.

There is more confusion and wasted time in trying to initiate this product than what is saved by using multiple remotes. Hours spent with a very unknowledgeable and language challenged customer assistant was extremely unsatisfactory. It would seem that a lot of this difficulty could be resolved by a well written owner's manual. I do not recommend this product

Comments about Harmony/Logitech Harmony 650 Advanced Universal Remote:

                            Pros:
                            * Easy to setup
                            * I can control my TV, Xbox, Itunes, Netflix (tv input), and my cable box. I'm really able to finally use a single remote.
                            * Lots of button customization features.

                            Cons:
                            * When switching between inputs, the remote would turn off the TV. You have to click help and the remote goes through troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. It seems like it has stoppped though. I wonder if it "learns" how to fix this issue automatically over time.

                            I recommend this product.

I use this remote to control TV, BLURAY, western digital media hub, and stereo receiver . this is a nice remote to put all 4 units on one controller. I took a bit of time to set up but once it was and remote learned the settings it worked great. Some bugs from time to time but much better than juggling 4 remotes.

Used it for TV, receiver, DVD, iPod, cable set up. Straight forward set up once you have model numbers and connections. iPod took a couple iterations. Easy to change settings.

                                Pro:
                                - VERY easy setup. Just plug the controller to your computer, run the software from the web plugin, input model numbers for devices, and then create "activities" (aka macros)
                                - Large database of devices
                                - Controller has the same buttons as my devices

                                Con:
                                - When trying to update my activities, the remote would not be picked up by my computer. I had to boot the remote in safemode and then I was able to resync the device.

Comments about Harmony/Logitech Harmony 650 Advanced Universal Remote:

I purchased harmony 650 to combine 4 remotes; my plasma tv, receiver, sat receiver, and a media player.
My plasma TV is a little weird in that it wont accept any commands till 10-12 seconds after it has been powered on. So I need to insert a wait time for the functions to work correctly. It needed some improvisation but all was set up in less than an hour.
I think set up steps (especially for activities) should allow more user input.
