I was looking for a prosumer tripod in the "affordable" range for a broke student filmmaker just as something I could depend on with the DSLR film kit I was putting together and this tripod caught my attention. Unable to find much BG on the product I decided to take a risk and get it, thinking that at least if it was sub-par it looked stylish and professional enough. Fortunately, I was quite pleased when I opened the box. The pod is very light to carry around but the build is GOOD, about 85% solid metal and aluminum. I really love the turn knob clamps coming from my previous use of Sachtlers, they make it super easy and quick to adjust the heights. The head, in comparison to my previous use of manfrotto DV and top Libec models, fares well. I have yet to master the damping controls but the pan movement is super smooth and the tilt gets the job done well. Head was a little smaller than I expected but I imagine it could handle a fairly heavy load well. The stability is great, height could be better BUT it does fold surprisingly small making it much less of a burden to tote around to shoots. I imagine this tripod will last me a good long while while undergoing the abuse of jungle and mountain terrain and experimental wear and tear. Ultimately, for the price and quality this is a top product and I would highly recommend it, though for higher, heavier end production I would look at the PRO version of this series.

I've gone through two of these now. The plastic lever that locks the pan handle breaks easily. Dracast does not respond to inquiries about replacement parts. Also, there is no real drag adjustment on the pan function which becomes stiff to the point of unusability. It's too bad because the tripod is a great size for travel. It's OK for interviews, not much else.

I bought a lot of this similar tripod over the years, but this one is the best, solid build, and smooth moviment. Great as some expensive tripod. The only "bad" is that is the legs are not too long, but is not a big deal to me.

Wish it were just a tad taller and I wish the ball head lock was a bit stronger. Also the pan doesn't have a drag, just lock/unlock.

This light weight tripod is incredible. I have had other light ones in the past and they were so much more expensive. I was reluctant at first because of the low price, but I have been pleasantly surprised at the ease of use. I love the adjustable, balancing camera head. LOVE IT

Comments about Dracast DVT - 17 Video Tripod with Fluid Head:

I was not impressed with the construction of this tripod. There is a round cradle that the head of the tripod goes into, and then you screw in the tripod head from below. You have to get the tripod head level in the cradle (not an easy task), then screw in the head from the bottom (underneath the cradle). Confused? So was I, as instructions were not included on how to put the tripod together. Plus, if you turn the head hard enough while panning, the screw comes loose, and the tripod head becomes off-center, and you have to adjust it all over again. In addition, the legs of the tripod are awkward to extend and retract, and you can pinch your fingers if you're not careful. I returned this tripod for a Manfrotto, which I'm much more pleased with.

For only $, this Tripod is great. It's incredibly sturdy and very easy to use. The only thing I wish is that it was taller, but that's my own fault, not the product's. It's only been two weeks, but it's been very easy to use. Use: I use this to film basketball practices and games for a collegiate basketball team

I couldn't be more satisfied for the price. This tripod is very well made with quality materials. I doubt one could find a better product for the same price. I bought it for film making and wanted a tripod with true fluid head with with quick release plate. I am a perfectionist and wanted a head that had a very smooth tilt and pan. It works great and is butter smooth. The only negative I've found so far is that the decals on the leg knobs were not sticking well. I just pulled them off. Conclusion - if you're looking for a quality, well made product that will give you professional results, this is it!

Dracast Tripod 17: For occasional studio photography and some video shoots outdoors. It has all the features that more expensive tripods have. Surprisingly, its load capacity is better than comparable tripods. Tilt range is impressive below plane level is almost 90 degrees and better above horizon line, almost vertical! It versatile, easy to carry around and pretty affordable.

I'm glad to see this product on B&H. I bought this DVT-17 tripod from the Draco Broadcast site a few months ago and am totally satisfied with it. No complaints. The quality build is outstanding; it's much sturdier from previous tripods I've used because there's no cheap plastic feel. There's no other tripod of this quality for the same price; it's unbeatable. This tripod is equally as lightweight and compact as it is metallic and sturdy. The pan/tilt is very smooth, leading to very little to no jerking, which makes it ideal for live action shooting (I film basketball games). I highly recommend this tripod to serious independent filmmakers and studios.
