This is my first personal camcorder, although I have use several versions of Sony's High 8s at work. I've had fun with the time lapse setting on the E200 but it is hard to figure the rate of compression from the manual. The results are always entertaining. I also like using the E200 in tight places, such as onboard model railroads and inside miniature structures. The Touchscreen is great, especially when it pivots back on itself. The lenscap doesn't seem robust but it works. Beware when getting the basic camera because it doesn't include a memory card, carrying case,or a separate charger needed when you order extra batteries. Downloading a converter is necessary to make MPEGs but free ware is out there if you look for it. I am really happy with the HD quality. My only problem is that videos of any length are too big to email.

I returned the GZ-E200 after matching the quality against the GZ-HM300. It was much better in low light shooting but the sound was terrible. The GX-HM300 camcorder in my opion is a much better even with poor low light shooting. Even the color in the HD mode was better. Sorry I waisted B & H's time and glad they are great to deal with. Go for the GZ-HM300 and you won't be sorry.

First, I want to say that I almost purchased this exact same camera from a TV Shopping Program for more than B&H was selling it for. I'm so glad that I waited. I was impressed with the demo I saw and everything I had read about it. However, there are some great things about it that I was not aware of until I actually got it home and started reading. The quick start booklet that comes with it is only 20 pages long, but the online book that is download and printable is 138 pages long! Some of the things I was not fully aware of that this feather-light, palm-size camera does (yes, it does fit right in my palm, it's very compact but not toy-like at all). Things like Smile Detection and Auto Record. Got a small group to take a pic of? Set Smile Detection and your pic will not take till everyone has a smile! There is also Human Face Registration so the camera will recognize who it is taking pictures of. A set of 12 Automatic Scene Modes that are a bit more useful and unique than those contained in other cameras I've owned. Want to see if someone is coming in your room when you are away? Set the camera and check it when you come back. It senses the motion and starts recording if someone does enter it's space. The Zoom is like a telescope, the colors true, the picture is crisp and free from noise of any kind. The smallest sound will be captured perfectly. Can't wait to give the Time Lapse function a try, that is very cool. There is also a Manual Mode where you set everything exactly the way you want it, over riding the camera's built in A.I.So far, I have received a lot more camera than I had barganed for originally. This is not my first JVC camcorder, in fact it's my 4th over the past 30 years and they have all be great and trouble free. This one is actually the least expensive I have owned and has more features and takes the best videos and pictures of the bunch. In fact, this is the first one that actually does take still pictures and requires no "tape" to record with. Now, something I don't like is the fact that the battery that comes with the unit is aparantly the smallest battery they make for this unit. It is lasting me about 40 minutes. I do plan to splurge and upgrade battery to the largest that fits this camera, the BN-VG138U which I understand will record for right around 5 hours. It is a bit pricy, but again, B&H has the best pricing on it.I also miss an in-camera stitching for panoramic photos. Although I do have a Kodak digital that does that perfectly if I need it, so not too upset that it's missing from the JVC.Over all, I'm very happy with the camera and am sure that there are still a bevy of features that I have yet to discover. I plan to read that 138 page manual cover to cover as I don't want to miss a thing! For the price, you can't beat it! And by the way, All of your downloadable PC software is stored in the camera, rather than on a separate CD or DVD. Upgrades can be downloaded online.

The picture is great and so is the sound! You can also do basic editing on the camera. I am currently figuring out how to export into editing software (as I would like to do some green screen in my videos)so I may update this review, but so far I am very happy with the JVCGZ-E200BU. I did buy a memory card as I read other reviews stating there was no internal memory.

Two of these cameras were purchased with the appropriate accessories as video cameras for a "TV" station within our school. The ease of use and clear video output were as expected- easy to use with high quality quality results.
They are easy to setup and use by our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders "running" the hardware. We are using a simple A-B type composite A/V switch to select the on-line camera.
I have not found any "negatives" for this or the accessories purchased with the cameras. It all simply works, and works simply.

We needed to replace our old heavy analog casette tape recorder to an updated light weight digital sd card recorder. This is a must have for parents of small children. They grow up way too quick and you need to record every hilarious and outrageous minute of it. You'll be sorry if you don't!

as disposable travel poket cam - it's OK.Hard time focusing, WB - presets are terrible, manual works OK if set on bright blue color. But timelapse for[$] - not bad at all.35mm lens, but if you cut plastic around lense, it will fit 49mm filters and wide angle lenses. It works !

GZ-E200 well-made nice looking camcorder.
However the touch screen is not responsive at all. Necessary to touch functions several times for response.
Video colors were faded and items in distance were blurry and not distinct.
I returned this camcorder.
LCD is smaller and not as bright as another JVC camcorder that I own.

This is my first camcorder. For $, it was a great purchase. Things I needed that it lacked due to price range is built in Mic port. However, the internal Mic is sufficient for most situations. The other very last feature I wish it had was a physical focus button. In order to focus manually, you have to go through the menu and select Focus to On, then you have to tap on the screen in different directions to focus in/out. Would have had 5 stars with a physical way to focus. The 'Night Owl' vision has horrible FPS and lags beyond control. No reason to even have the feature there. A built in camera light would have made more sense. The battery that comes with it lasts 50 minutes, but that really goes faster once you start recording. I have yet to see how long Time Lapse will last on the battery. When I select Time Lapse, it automatically goes into Time Lapse Power Saving mode, so hopefully it will last longer.Other than that, it is great for the price.

This is my first camcorder, so I am still learning everything about it and such. I take it everywhere with me, I'm the type of person that carries my digital still and cam with me in case I see a photo OP that really gets me excited. (like my dad kicking out his wife).
I gave it 4 stars, because I have larger hands for someone of the Female variety; so its harder for the touch screen to register what I'm pressing. The AI feature is a nice touch.
Would have been better with a true nightshot feature, but I can deal with it.
Used the camera while I was driving home, to test the image stabilization, worked great, even switching from hand to hand. Built-in Mic is sensitive, had music playing softly in the background, and picked up every word.

Extremely easy to use. Only negative is the battery supplied. This isn't like JVC !!! Don't know why they got cheap on this point. Probably to make more sales!!! I ordered the better battery with my purchase. You should have a spare anyway. Too bad that they did away with a view finder on all brands of camcorders. Bright sun sometimes is the enemy.

One of the best low-light capable cameras in my arsenal. The color in low light situations is natural and outstanding. The 40x optical zoom is also a great feature. If you've ever shot photos with digital zoom, you'll know how lousy they get in a hurry.
I put a 64GB class 6 SD memory card in my GZ-E200 and set the resolution to UXP (or whatever it is -the highest setting) and played it back through a 55" Sony LED HD tv with Enhanced Clear image, and the movie is incredible. The 64GB SD will hold well over 5 hours of UXP format video.

One of the few units allowing time-lapse video with ease. Simple to use, nice quality and very convenient small dimensions. Traveling with this camcorder is a pleasure.
If there is any criticism, it is the lack of thread to attach a wide-angle lens.
