The Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Silver) made for the Sony E mount camera system incorporates a stepping motor that is optimal for the contrast-detection AF system of Sony mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. This will also improve AF when shooting video. With the motor built into the lens, focusing will be quieter and more responsive.
The 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC is a high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 27-300mm in 35mm format.
Designed as an "all-in-one" lens, it meets almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 1.5' (45 cm) over the entire zoom range by the employment of a new optical/mechanical design configuration. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.7, you can enjoy close-up photography easily and conveniently.
Note! Di-II lenses cannot be used with digital SLR cameras using image sensors that are larger than that of an APS-C size imager, or with 35mm film SLR cameras.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Silver):
I bought this in conjunction with a NEX-7 body. I've used Tamron lenses before and like them as a more affordable option to propritary lenses. My only complaint is the focus creaps sometimes when fully-zoomed.
Aside from that, it's a good walk-around lens.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Silver):
relative to other superzooms, this is probably tops. i've extensively used a nikkor 18-200vrii and tamron 18-200 for sony aps-c slts. this lens is as sharp as the nikon and sharper than the other tamron. what puts it over the top is its great build (metal on plastic, nice zoom ring), tight feel, and the best image stabilization i've seen on a lens. given that nex bodies rely on the lens for stabilization, a superzoom really needs it and this lens has better implementation than either the sony 18-55 kit or the 50 1.8. 1/10th sec handheld zoomed in a decent amount has no blur (unless the subject is moving of course). a little large on a 5n, pretty good proportionally to a 7 (i use both). for the price, its a very good all-in-one solution. great for travel and when you don't want to carry all your lenses.

As a novice photographer, I was truly impressed with the quality of the pictures and ease of use of my new lense. I recently used my lense in Chicago with my 5 year old daughter- the pictures turned out fabulous.
