The Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black) made for the Sony E mount camera system incorporates a stepping motor that is optimal for the contrast-detection AF system of Sony mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. This will also improve AF when shooting video. With the motor built into the lens, focusing will be quieter and more responsive.
The 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC is a high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 27-300mm in 35mm format.
Designed as an "all-in-one" lens, it meets almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 1.5' (45 cm) over the entire zoom range by the employment of a new optical/mechanical design configuration. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.7, you can enjoy close-up photography easily and conveniently.
Note! Di-II lenses cannot be used with digital SLR cameras using image sensors that are larger than that of an APS-C size imager, or with 35mm film SLR cameras.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
I am not an expert photographer by any means; I know just enough to get by. I recently returned from a vacation trip to the Grand Canyon and although I took several other lenses, I found myself using this one pretty much exclusively. The convenience of the zoom means everything when you want to photograph everything!

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
Things that are great: one lens, many focal lengths. Less great, the longer focal lengths are not as good as the shorter ones. I was hoping to use it to shoot some events. It is only so-so at the longer lengths. I bought this to go with my NEX-7. This set is to be a lightweight sub for my big DSLR and lens.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
I bought this as a travel lens. I hate changing lenses when on vacation. I have used several Tamron lenses in the past and they have been great. Quality control is good and I have never been disappointed. I currently use two Tamron lenses on my Nikon D700 and this lens has similar high quality. Autofocus at 200 mm is not ery fast but I think that is a function of the Sony autofocus system not the lens. The trick is to focus before extending the telephoto to the full 200mm.

This Tamron Lens is an excellent alternative to Sony's example.
It is a beautiful lens and is a perfect match to the Black NEX7, It produces good sharp contrasting images through zoom ratios.
The internal focusing mechanism without the body ring turning is good feature
I am very happy with my purchase from B&H

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
Super super nice - do not get a NEX body with a kit the 18-55 mm lens - get this lens. It is slightly longer than the kit lens retractet and it is not that heavy - it is slightly narrower then the Sony silver 70-200 so it suits the body better - it is also in black - it is a nicer lens then the black Sony 70-200 e-mount which is even more money.I compared all 3 lenses - it was a toss between the older silver Sony and the Tamron as far as speed and quality and use - but with the ligher weight and narrower and being black to match my NEX 7 it was a no brainer. It is not fair to compare this allaround 18-200 lens with a prime lens at its focal lenght - but this lens is absolutly close to the best allaround 18-200 out there - all 18-200 have some weaknesses compared to primes and narrower focal lenghts like 24-70 - but this is a good as it gets - Nice build quality and very quiet.adjusting focal lenght is a bit firmer than the Sony but the great advantage over the Sony is that the Tamron has no lens greep lile the Sony has.The vibration control works well and gives you at least a Stop when hand holding in low light. For events now I can unload the full size DSLR with my Nikor 70-200 2.8 for some periods and just use my 2 Sony NEX bodys - NEX 5n with a 16mm 2.8 for group shots etc. and the NEX 7 with the Tamron - even though I do cary with me the Sony 50mm 1.8 for very low light situations - so a varied aperture lens of course cannot compare with a constant 2.8 lens - but when possible there is a great advantage of the small size of a NEX body and a small lens like the Tamron - not just weight but also when taking candit shots - people feel more relaxed with a smaller camera kit verses the full size DSLR body and say the long 70-200mm 2.8 So allaround a superb allaround lens - not to mention for street photography - traveling with a NEX 5/6/7 and this Tamron 70-200 verses a full size DSLR us a drean - safe your back :)It is about [$] cheaper then the silver Sony - and much better then the black Sony and less money - I only hope that Tamron come out with more lenses to get the e-mount lenses down in price.Compared to the 18-55 mm Sony kit lens this is just a tad heaver and a tad longer detracted - but what a differense in build quailty and reach and out of focus blur - An absolute must have for your NEX body -

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
i bought this lens two weeks ago for my NEX7. i have experience with a few lenes from different manufacturers (zooms & primes), but never had a super-zoom before. i needed a travel lens and the Tamron 18-200 seemed the best choise for size, quality and price. i also have very good experience with Tamron 17-50 but didn't expect the same IQ.The bottom line is that the 18-200 has much better optics than i expected. when shooting in good light it's really sharp, has good contrast, vibrant colors and has no isuues like heavy distortions, CA and flare. i guess the NEX7 handles some of these problems typical for long zoom lenses.the build quality is very impressive, lens body made of metal and the size and weight are reasonable. the focus is completely silent, and tha stabilizer is very efficient. When shooting indoors you get to the limits of the lens, especially slow focus. this is typical to super-zooms but still irritating. i use primes indoors instead of the Tamron.Final word: I find this lens a VERY good super zoom, especially the optics, build quality and stabilizer. as long as you understand the limits you'll get great photos.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
I have a Sony Nex 5N. The 18-55mm lens is good for local photography but not for distant stuff eg events like airshows etc. In these circumstances the 18-200mm lens is great. The wide zoom range makes it easy to locate moving objects with wide angle before zooming in with telephoto. It is portable and powerful. The stabilizer works well and detail / definition of the photos is great. It is a little too big for everyday use.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
Even the kit lens makes the NEX7 essentially unpocketable, so I use it on a neck strap, and this super zoom is not too heavy or bulky for strap use. The shiny surface matches the camera very well, they look like they were made for each other, which of course they were. The lens feels solid and functions smoothly. It is very sharp. It balances the camera well since the left hand has something substantial to hold on to, but like all (except the pancake) NEX lenses it's size looks a little disproportionate to the camera body. I think it is good value for the money; less expensive than the Sony offerings, with essentially the same specs as the new Sony zoom.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
Bought to use with my NEX-7, and it will likely be my "normal" lens. Nice edge sharpness even wide open, integrates perfectly with the camera. Very fast focus too, and reasonably quiet in video mode (using an external mic). Wish it came with a fitted case for those times when it's off the camera. Only negative is that it is heavy relative to the camera body ... but then pretty much any zoom is going to be heavier than the NEX-7.

So far I'm loving this lens, which I use as my "walk(ski)around lens on a new NEX-7. I haven't done any formal tests, but it seems to be sharp throughout the range. This combo is very light and responsive for my hiking and skiing adventures in the back-country of Washington's Cascade Range where I spend a lot of my free time.

I rented Sony's version of this lens for a week and the IQ is comparable. While IQ with long zooms such as this will never compare with primes, for video work, this type of lens is a fine choice, especially for the NEX-7. This is a solidly constructed lens. Zoom and focus rings operate smoothly. Optical stabilization works well. Black color is a plus as it blends better with the NEX-7. At less than the Sony, the decision to go with this Tamron was an easy one.

The Tamron 18-200 Di III works well on the NEX-5N. A bit front heavy when mounted but necessary to have the 18-200 range and image stabilization.
The range and IS along with smooth and quick AF and still be smaller and lighter than the Sony 18-200, made up my mind. The black look was a factor too.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
I bought this lens for my Nex 5N. I have a dslr camera and have used other super zoom lenses before, so I had reasonable expectations. In certain lighting situations there is "purple fringing", but that is corrected in my photo software. The image quality is very good and I'm quite satisfied with it.
There is a known issue with this lens not doing well with the sweep panorama mode...the panoramas are quite blurry. I had read of this problem on a review website, but I went ahead and purchased the lens, gambling that perhaps Tamron had taken care of the problem and that my lens might be a newly manufactured version. Unfortunately mine suffers from this ailment. I didn't return the lens, however, because I don't anticipate doing much with the sweep panorama and I do have the kit lens to use...and besides, I can't stand the thought of being without my 18-200 for the length of time it might take to get it fixed.
I love the compact size of the lens and it seems well balanced on the NEX 5N.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras (Black):
I had originally planned to buy the NEX 7 kit, with the Sony lens included. However, I decided to buy the body by itself, and purchase this Tamron lens. I have been very pleased. Even when the images are enlarged to full resolution, color, sharpness, and contrast look great. Additionally, compared to the similary Sony 18-200mm lens, Tamron's is more sveldt and its black color better matches the NEX 7. My only complaint is that the size of the lens causes a shadow on the image when the pop-up flash is used. This will either mandate that you use this lens without flash, or that you purchase the Sony F20AM flash. Otherwise, great lens.

Light weight for a small long lens, built well, easy to use.
The lens was used to shoot a Miami Heat home game. Sony camera was hand held, no flash and all photo's came out perfect. The lens was reliable from start to finish.
