The TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless-N ASDSL2+ Modem Router from TP-Link is a dynamic means of connecting computers on your network to the Internet and streaming demanding network traffic. With a built-in RJ-11 WAN port, the TD-W8960N serves as an ADLS 2/2+ modem that's great for connecting you to the Internet. Once you are indeed connected, the device can function as a wireless router in connecting with your wireless -N, -G, and -B devices. When connecting to wireless -N devices, it can transfer data at up to 300Mbps. With this transfer rate, you can stream content that takes up greater bandwidth, such as for VoIP calling and HD video. Because this device also features four LAN Ethernet ports, it can also serve as a wired Ethernet router. You can use this device in combination as both a modem and router, or as just a modem.

If you do use this device as a router, you can easily setup a secure connection with the one-touch Quick Security Setup (QSS) button. In addition, for added security, this device utilizes a variety of firewalls, such as NAT and SPI, and utilizes a variety of security encryption methods, such as WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and WPA/WPA2. It also features built-in Quality of Service for ensuring that latency-sensitive applications, such as VoIP or video streaming, receive the bandwidth they need first so as to run smoothly. As another advanced feature, the TD-W8960ND supports up to 10 IPSec VPN tunnels for remotely and securely connecting to a network in a different location. With these features and more, you will find the TD-W8960N to be a stellar, no-fuss choice for setting up and establishing your home or smaller office network.

One-Stop Solution
As a 3-in-1 device, the TD-W8960N combines the functions of a high speed DSL modem, a 4-Port 10/100Mbps NAT router and a wireless N access point. Using a telephone line the TD-W8960N establishes a high-speed ADSL2+ Internet connection. Once set up, the device's wired/wireless functions can be used to share media between devices, browse the Internet, talk on an IP phone, or even stream HD video. Save time and money using one device instead of multiple devices that take longer to set up and occupy more cluttered space
Access High-Speed Internet
Unlike dial-up Internet service, a DSL Internet connection is always on, so users need not dial up or wait to access the web. Supporting ADSL standards, the TD-W8960N provides higher performance (up to 24Mbps downstream) and longer reach from users' local Internet Service Provider (ISP). This device also supports TR-069, which automatically updates the device's firmware and other settings when they become available from the ISP
The Wireless Experience
TD-W8960N is a high-speed solution that complies with IEEE802.11n standards, offering wireless transmission speeds of up to 300Mbps. It adopts MIMO technology, has two detachable Omni directional antennas providing better wireless performance, transmission rates, stability, and coverage. Users can get up to 15x the speed and 5x the range of conventional 11g products and share high-speed DSL Internet connections, photos, music, files, and even heavy bandwidth consuming applications like wireless HD video streaming
Quick Secure Setup
To setup their network's security encryption, users need simply to press the "QSS" button on their TD-W8960N, then push the "QSS" button or enter the router's PIN Code in the wireless client, and it will automatically establish a WPA secure connection. Not only is this faster than normal security setups but more convenient in that users don't need to remember a password
IPSec VPN
Having the IPSec VPN (site-to-site) function, the TD-W8960N is no longer just a wireless ADSL modem router, it can also works as a VPN gateway, with support for up to 10 IPSec VPN tunnels simultaneously. The VPN (Virtual Private Network) function can create encrypted tunnels between a company's network and remote users. So, you can connect to your company's network from your home computer. These tunnels use virtual connections instead of the dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line. Users are afforded complete data privacy for the access and exchange of extremely sensitive data from a user's home to a corporate network or between remote branch offices safely with TD-W8960N
Easy Setup
Easy Setup Assistant with multi-language support is provided in the product CD. Users can select their native language when setting up their device and complete Internet connection setup, wireless network settings and security configurations without the use of a multilingual dictionary. This benefit allows even novice users to setup their products without sacrificing any key features. Users need simply insert the TD-W8960N's bundled Auto-Run CD to have their networks set up quickly and hassle-free in minutes
IP QoS - Control Bandwidth Reasonably
Among the wireless network, indiscriminate Internet surfing and bandwidth-guzzling downloads by internal users often leave a home or small office with insufficient bandwidth. TD-W8960N supports IP QoS function, allowing optimum utilization of bandwidth and offers bandwidth control over congestion, preventing the bandwidth abuse. In this way, the users of a small network receive committed and specific bandwidth, preventing non-critical applications from degrading network performance

        Comments about TP-Link TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless-N ASDSL2+ Modem Router:

My antique Westell modem/router finally died and buying a new one went to the top of my ToDo list. Had too much trouble getting one from Verizon and didn't want to pay extra for FIOS, which they are pushing. Did some research and price comparison, and this one fit the bill.

Easy to install out of the box, easy setup with Verizon, back to sufing business as usual. Happy with the purchase and would recommend to all!

        Comments about TP-Link TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless-N ASDSL2+ Modem Router:

I bought the TD-W8960N router to replace an Actiontec DSL router that I was using with Verizon. Set up was for the most part easy. I didn't use the included CD, instead manually setting up using the browser format. On this router all you do as with most other routers is make sure that you are connected to your computer hard wired (Cat5 or Cat6) Ethernet cable. (Do not attempt to do this by wireless connection. Simply type into your browser 192.168.1.1 When the first login appears -for user name type in admin, for password type in admin. You are set to go configure your settings.

All most people will have to do is look at the included written instructions or documentation that was included in the retail box for DSL specific carrier settings. There it will list almost every US carrier and their regional default settings that should be used. In my case it was Verizon Dynamic IP LLC (1483 bridged) mode. This is the same as (IPoE) mode if you are looking to do it yourself. Again be aware that different areas of the country use different settings.

Next step is to just use the Quick Setup on the menu selection. There you will scroll down the menu where it will list almost every DSL carrier with their specific settings. For mine it was Verizon (Dynamic). With the Verizon Dynamic setting I didn't have to enter in any DSL username or password for them as it is not required on their system. The other settings I left alone were for Encapsulation Mode - (LLC SNAP-Bridging) WAN IP Address Settings (Use DHCP)
        WAN Gateway Address (Obtain Automatically).

The next step will lead you to your wireless security settings which for most people should be WPA-2 Personal. When you have completed those steps everyone should go to the menu and change the default TD-W8960N router admin password for higher security. Go to Management - Settings - access Control). Also under the same menu area under Remote Access most people should disable this. Another good security measure is to disable UPnP protocol under the Advanced Settings menu.

Next reboot the router from within the Management Menu. Restart your computer that you are logged into. Some people might have to wait up to an hour in order to obtain an IP address assignment from their DSL carrier. Just depends on your carrier. Be patient as it will connect to the internet after the handshake with your carrier and the router gets its IP assignment.

The performance of this router has been great. Wireless has been perfect on my network. There have been no problems or loss of data packets. The unit does run hot just to let everyone know. Mine will run around 110+ degrees Fahrenheit. (Much more than the manufacturer lists as normal). I went ahead and elevated my unit so the bottom of the router will dissipate heat better. I just used (2) pieces of metal 1/4 inch off of the surface it sits on. It helps reduce the temperature by 5 degrees or more.

Another thing that I noticed with my router is that with Verizon DSL Dynamic or IPoE there will be no Internet status LED indicator light. The green LED status light will not come on for that mode. The Internet LED only comes on when you are using the PPPOE or PPPOA connection (the type where you have to provide a username and password). Hope this helps some people with their router setup.

Use this product with CenturyLink High Speed. Installation was easy and fast. CenturyLink needed to fix some things at their end to get the proper speed for my connection but, the unit runs perfectly and doesn't run as hot as some other reviewers had complained about. No drops of service with this unit since installed a week ago. Too bad TP-Link has discontinued manufacture of this model but, if you can still find it, buy it. I don't think it will disappoint.

              Comments about TP-Link TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless-N ASDSL2+ Modem Router:

I really like TP-Link in general. This was very easy to set up and took only a few minutes to get wireless security and some other tweaks in place. Easy to throw Xbox in DMZ. Many othr little tweaks you can choos to do as well. I have had some intermittent drops though and I'm still trying to pin that down. It could quite easily be the DSL but it's not in my house so it's a little sketchy. Signal strength is adequate but if you ned a boost grab some 13dbi or at least 9dbi antennas and replace the factory installed ones. I do this on almost every router I buy anyway. I think you will be happy with this. It's better than using a 2wire that you will get from ATT for more money. I can guarantee that.
