Comments about Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M.Zuiko EZ Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):

I don't use this lens often, it seems as though my 12mm f2 is glued to my OM-D. Although it's not a particularly fast lens, it's good enough as a walk around lens and I appreciate its macro capabilities. The lens is actually much smaller than it looks in pictures, which is good and it's fairly light weight and well balanced on the OM-D.

Where this lens lacks, is in feel. The zoom ring appears to be mechanical but it feels like its 'by wire'. Has a very gritty feel to it and doesn't feel very responsive.

Also, this lens is probably not the best choice for indoor use.

Comments about Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M.Zuiko EZ Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):

Best kit lens I own. Very sharp, contrasty and lightweight. Already several photos published in newspapers and one around the world on Roger Waters The Wall FB page...taken with this lens.
Oh yes, I have many Canon L lenses including the fabulous 200 F1.8...and I bought the OMD-EM5 for all-around lightweight gear. It performs much better than I had hoped for. The sensor is very clean and this lens with the built-in IS is an extraordinary value. Also, get the 45 f1.8...for low light and pristine sharpness.

I got this lens as a kit lens with my E-M5. I heard several bad things about this lens. So far I can only report surprising good things. It is Weather-sealed to match my E-M5. The range is very good. The image quality from it is good. The semi-macro mode is very good. The only thing I don't like about the lens is that is is very slow with a f6.3 at its long end. Also the lens should have came with the lens hood.

Comments about Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M.Zuiko EZ Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):

I started out with a 4/3 system and a couple of 4/3 lenses and OM lenses plus adapters for my e-620. Then I got an OM-D and wanted to get a m 4/3 lens that would be more appropriate for the size of the body, thus the 12-50. Small and light were a higher priority for me than fast and tack sharp. It's not a bad lens, especially for the price, but it suffers by comparison with the 4/3 12-60, and 9-18 in 4/3(with adapters). On the other hand it is much lighter and less conspicuous. The manual zoom is a little "grindy" for lack of a better word, but a lot of the relatively inexpensive ("relatively" is the operational term-I bought a Leica M-2 and 50mm Summicron back in the day for less than this puppy)lenses today seem to have the same property, so I guess it is not a defect, but silly me, for longevity, I'd rather have something that doesn't feel like it has a teeny-tiny bit of grit in it.
The image quality will not knock your socks off when blown way up, but the obvious resolution to that is what we did when we only had 50mm primes--move closer to the subject so you don't have to blow it way up.

As an intro to the m 4/3 system, it's a good starter, but I'm looking forward to the new m 4/3 lenses that are scheduled to appear soon.

Comments about Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M.Zuiko EZ Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):

If you want a versatile lens for relatively little money, this is a good choice. I've compared its image quality with various other mZuiko, Zuiko and Panasonic lenses and while it isn't up to the best (such as the 7-14mm ED) the differences won't affect many photos in ways you will notice. The range is very useful, especially at the wide end. The autofocus is fast and quiet on the E-M5 (the only camera I've tried it on). It feels fairly well made, at least given the price. And it's quite small and light.
Obviously it isn't the brightest, especially at the longer ends.
I won't comment on bokeh as I think that's a ridiculous concern, especially for small cameras best suited to documentary and pj style work. Oh all right, if you care, it seems pleasant enough to me.

Well built. The power zoom feature is lost on me but if you shoot video you will probably like it. The macro feature is nice although the lens is a little short for macro work. I prefer a 90-105mm for macro.
