I purchased 2 identical drives: one to store photos (I have over 250,000 and counting) and one to act as a backup drive.

I have a Mac Pro, early 2008, quad core Intel Xeon. Latest OS. This drive worked perfectly upon install. I put the second drive in an OWC Mercury Elite Pro, and it, too, worked perfectly. (Note that 3TB drives don't work with many external enclosures.)

I bought five total of these drives in 2012 and some of them are dead, after about 18 months of service. I retire hard drives after 2 to 3 years of service because that's the point when the risk of failing drives increase sharply. But that point comes much sooner with this drive.

Purchased this HHD to store all home videos and photos. Used Acronis Disc Director 11 to edit this HHD. When initialise use GPT type not MBR.
Then I devided it to three parts. Works good. No issues found.

Now purchasing our 50th drive, due to massive coverage of our documentary. These drives have been very efficient. Have not had any problems with the 4k content we are storing and editing.

          These drives come highly recommended.

If you think you're going to stick these in your computer and have a drive letter pop up on your "computer" page and you're gonna have 3 more TB of memory. NOT HAPPENING. This was way more complicated and until I "cloned" my C drive, I couldn't even tell if these were working. When I did clone it, it partitioned the drive up into three sections. What a pain. And if you don't follow the directions carefully, you're just gonna have a 2TB drive anyway. I haven't gotten any further than this.

I have it on my mac pro as 4th drive to back up with time machine and it is doing great job. I think this is a really good drive, very quite, runs cool (81F at this moment) Can't tell id it is reliable because I have install it a week ago, but I am sure that this Barracuda won't let me down.

Getting the drive usable beyond 2TB is a complete gong-show. So far I have had to install the drive into a spare system, load OS to install DiscWizard from Seagate to expand the drive to utilize the last Terabyte, nightmare. Do not buy a 3TB drive until the technology is better, period.
