B&H shipped fast for free. Box arrived with a big hole torn in the top...kinda alarming for a hard drive. Fortunately thanks to B&H and Hitachi packing the unit was A-OK (one reason I don't buy bare drives). Thanks for the scare, UPS!Had a little trouble with the drive staying connected to the computer at first...after switching USB ports it's now running rock solid. If you have a similar problem try a new port or maybe a new cable...heard some other folks had problems with the USB cord Hitachi supplies.Drive itself is awesome. Very pleased with read/write speeds and data transfer rates...~60MB/sec moving large files back and forth to internal WD Blacks over USB3. Have already transferred a few terabytes worth of files back and forth without a hitch.Unit is super quiet and does not get warm to the touch even after heavy prolonged use. One advantage of using a 5900/5400 RPM drive (besides being cheaper) is that they tend to run more quietly and cooler than a 7200 RPM one (like what's in the Touro Pro version). All other things being the same, a lower rev HDD should last longer than a faster-spinning one, and bother you less while it's working. Ran some benchmark tests and this Hitachi drive's read/write speeds are faster than a 1TB WD Black HDD I have. Plenty good enough for an external storage drive. Extremely pleased with the looks and the performance...only time will tell about its durability. The amazing thing is that this drive costs $50 less than the exact same one sold as an internal drive...so if you want to put one inside your rig you can easily save quite a few bucks by buying this and removing it from the enclosure. But doing so will obviously void your 1-year warrantee because you will have to destroy the enclosure to get it out, so you might wanna hold off before doing that to make sure the drive is working fine first. Good job, B&H. I just ordered an amazing new ASUS monitor from you a few minutes ago, so tell that UPS guy to be a little more careful this time!

I have the 3TB version and get 150MB/s sustained reads and writes with this (and much higher burst speeds) running off a USB 3 pci-e adapter, so its speed is very good. The only problem is that the device spins down too frequently and sometimes takes more than a minute to wake up. I've had to unplug it and plug it back in (no power switch) to get Win 7 Pro to recognize it again after wake up. Also, there is no control over the spin-down feature. Currently, I almost recommend this, and definitely would if the spin-down was controllable.

I am a photographer that shoots with the Nikon D800 36 megapixel camera. My files are large and was looking for a drive to back up my smaller external drives. This definitely served the purpose and was very user friendly with my Mac Book Pro. Very happy with my choice!

Simple re-format using Apple Disk Utility. Setup as a second Time Machine drive so the system alternates between the two. I am backing up from a nearly full 2TB boot drive.

Purchased specifically to get USB 3.0 speed to mate with my new iMac and it works just fine. It comes with a cable that was not listed in the description.

              Very quiet and cool.

My 4TB drives are working fine. My older Hitachi 2TB drives are still running strong. My only complaint is the USB 3.0 interface is a bit flakey. Sometimes need to unplug the unit to get windows to see the drive. Probably happens about 1 time out of 10 when coming out of sleep or power up.

I use the Touro 4TB external drive to store photographs. It is simple plug and play, as opposed to a 1TB drive I bought a year ago. That drive was password protected, which is not a bad thing, but was much more complicated to install. I've been using my Touro for 2 weeks now and am completely satisfied.

You get 4T for the price of 2T, and it's actually made by a dependable company under a different name. Worth it. Only drawback is no on/off switch, so have to unplug manually.

My Drobo accepted the hard drive (after I pulled it from this enclosure) without a hitch. Although I'm sure this is not how the drive was intended to be used and probably voided my warranty, it none the less works perfectly in a 4-bay USB 2.0 Drobo case with 3 other drives by other manufacturers. I may just get 3 more to max out my storage.

I am new at this brand but it seems to work good. Thay come already set up for Windows. The only thing I am missing here is an on-off to power the unit. Due to the fact that I am having some issues with other external hard drives I am testing new brands and this probably will be a good choice. At least I hope for.

Bought this product about a week ago. It is a good drive for the price. It lacks a power switch and a fan. The speed is on the slow side; but, if you are using it for a backup drive, who cares. It arrived pre formatted in NTFS with 32k clusters. Windows XPSP3 recognized it right away. I had to upgrade to a newer version of Easeus in order to do a partition. The older version I had would not recognize the drive, but the newer version does. Tax free and free shipping are a huge plus. 4 Trillion bytes does not equal 4TB. This should be marketed as a 3.63TB drive.

I have a Macbook Pro that I use to play my music files through Pure Music and iTunes. I store my music files on a Synology 4TB NAS and needed to backup the Synology files. I bought the Touro 4TB drive to do this. It was incredibly easy to setup. I took it out of the box plugged the USB cable that came with it into my Synology and plugged the Touro into the wall for power. I then went to my computer and immediately located the Touro drive and setup the backup function through the Synology. Now my music that is stored on my Synology is properly backed up nightly. B&H had a great price on the Touro and it was delivered to me in two days. I could not be happier.
