The black Camera Vest ONLY from Cotton Carrier is a unique chest harness system for one camera that supports your camera eliminating the neck strain usually associated with shooting long jobs such as weddings, sports, public relations and photojournalism. The system is designed for the photographer who carries a DSLR with battery grip. The system comes complete with a camera tether that securely supports your camera and a 10° angled hub. The hub fits neatly into the 1/4 -20 tripod slot on your camera and then slips into the Lexan receptacle in the front of your vest. The Universal Adapter Plate allows customers to go from the Cotton Carrier receptacle directly into their favorite quick release plate or ball head. This is because the angled hub blocks the ability to use quick release adapters. The Universal Plate allows you to do both functions. For additional stability, the built-in lens Stabilization Strap adds another measure of balance and support by holding the lens firmly against your body, preventing "swing".

First, use the buckles and touch fasteners on the vest to secure it around your body. Both the height and chest harness are fully adjustable. The camera tether then attaches to the vest by the use of a D-Ring. The unit's Split Ring attaches to the camera's strap lug and then to the other end of the tether. The entire unit is inter-connected and provides you with a comfortable and stable way to comfortably walk around while having your camera at the ready to shoot. You can also attach the harness as a standalone system when you attach it to, for example, your backpack strap. Just wrap the touch fastener around the strap and you're set to go. The system is backed by Cotton Carrier's limited lifetime warranty against defects.

The Cotton Carrier Camera Vest (635 RTL-S) differs from their Camera Vest for All Camera Types without Side Holster (633 CVP) in that the Camera Vest ONLY comes with a bonus hand strap and universal tripod adapter.

The Cotton Carrier can also be used with many popular tripod systems, but you must purchase an optional matching Quick Release Clamp (the Cotton Carrier Quick Release Clamp) or through your tripod's manufacturer - you need to match whatever camera plate your tripod head is using
The Cotton Carrier is designed to hold a digital SLR of any size and lens configuration - make sure you are using the proper hub for your camera/lens combination. The included 10 degree angled hub is designed specifically for use with professional series (full bodied) and battery-gripped cameras
A side holster is available as an option to hold a second camera
The Cotton Carrier Camera System is designed around the 1/4" standard tripod mount thread size that the majority of SLR, Point & Shoot, and camcorders use
Although the Cotton Carrier is designed to carry weight loads of essentially any camera and lens combination, providing you use the right camera hub, it is strongly recommend using your camera neck strap as an extra measure of security whenever using your camera under active situations (e.g. mountain bike riding, skiing, hiking)

This is a great product but confusing to select. The first thing you need to know about the Cotton Carrier vest is that you can get a better deal by purchasing the other version with side holster that I will talk about below. Having bought the single carrier version by accident, my most convenient remedy is to pay extra for added parts. So if you want to haul two items such as camera with small lens mounted and big lens in a second carrier on the same vest, then skip this vest and get the better one (available from B&H) to save some money. The Cotton Carrier vest eliminates shoulder strain and the awkward swinging weight of a camera with heavy telephoto lens. I use it to carry my Canon DSLR with fat 70-200mm lens and sometimes have the 2x lens extender mounted as well. The Cotton Carrier vest keeps the weight close to my chest. On my second 3 month journey to Paris soon, I plan to walk several kilometers daily while hauling 5 lenses for aesthetic photography (8-15mm fisheye, 14 prime, 16-35, 24-70 and the big 70-200 lens) plus a carbon tripod with sturdy ball head, a MacBook Air, a portable 2TB drive and backup drive and various support accessories, leaving nothing in the hotel except an extra backup drive locked in the suitcase. I'm a photo pack mule. I use a day-size backpack, a flight-size carry-on photo bag from Mountain Smith and now the Cotton Carrier vest. Just imagine the weight. I have found that walking with heavy load can make my legs and knees stronger. But it can be a challenge to avoid strain and remain balanced when standing on a Paris Metro subway platform. Cotton Carrier helps to resolve these problems well. The Universal Adapter Plate (one provided) allows me to keep one of my RC2 quick release tripod plates always mounted directly on the 70-200mm lens with Cotton Carrier mounting hub instead of just mounting one hub on the camera and letting the camera suffer that lens weight as shown in the product ads. It is unprofessional to mount the camera dangling a heavy unsupported lens as they show it. You can also buy and mount a second Universal Adapter Plate (B&H # CO766NHP) onto the camera thread, allowing the camera to accept a quick release plate and the mounting hub allowing it to rest in the main Cotton Carrier chest-level sling when it's not occupied by the heavy lens with camera. The matching extra Hub (B&H # COCCH10D) is sold separately and I thinks it's overpriced, but these things can pay for themselves in convenience. The Cotton Carrier "vest only" product allows only one chest-mount holster plate, one Universal Adapter Plate and one hub unless you want to buy and add the side holster and/or the Cotton Carrier Strap Shot (B&H # COCCSS) and then you must also buy an extra hub and, if needed, a second adapter plate. You are not likely going to want to mount items to more than two mounts at once. The Cotton Carrier is a varietal weight distribution innovation, so you need to plan your variations seriously before you buy. Search "Cotton "Carrier" on BH Photo and you will see more options than you might expect. I failed to do this and ended up needing more parts. Check the items included "in box" carefully before you buy to assure you get the best options for your money. This is a system that deserves some detailed examination before you buy.Better than the single carrier vest, get the 'double' Cotton Carrier vest (B&H # CO124RTLD) that comes with added side holster and one extra mounting hub. But you may still need to buy a second adapter plate to use both the chest mount and side holster mount simultaneously if you are using two quick release plates (one for fat lens, one for camera). Or if you accidentally bought the (single carrier) vest only, you can still buy the side holster which is sold separately (B&H # CO500CCH3294) and mount it to your Cotton Carrier vest or your belt. The Cotton Carrier Universal Adapter Plate seems a bit heavier than necessary but I found it to be mighty strong. After using my only-provided UA Plate on the big lens to enable mounting a quick release plate, I mounted my old low cost Dot Line Right Angle Flash Bracket (B&H # DODL0308) onto my camera as usual. The bracket is very light and has a handle that allows for steady camera grip. I then screwed a quick release tripod plate off-center directly into one or the two aluminum threads in the flash bracket. Off center is okay with moderate size lenses. Now I need to buy and screw a second Cotton Carrier mounting hub into the aluminum flash bracket as well. This allows me to rest the camera with any moderate size lenses into a side holster sling of the Cotton Carrier while keeping the fat 70-200mm lens resting in the chest mount. I can even mount/unmount the 70-200 lens without removing it from the chest mount. Being able to strap the lens bottom to the vest using the retainer strap provided in case you ever stumble while walking, is a good thing. Cotton carrier is sturdy and seems unlikely to fail but you still might want to shield your largest lens.I would like the Cotton Carrier system much better if it was designed to accept standard quick-release tripod plates of user choice with matching receptacle(s) to mount on the vest, instead of the Cotton Carrier hub and adapter plate that adds a lot of weight, imbalance and more unnecessary pieces. In other words, I would unclip it from my chest and clip it into my tripod without using Cotton Carrier proprietary hardware that forces me to off-center my quick release plate on my heavy lens. The hub and adapter should be sold to those without quick release systems. I may eventually modify the system to my own specs. Also the vest uses velcro attachments that can attract fuzz and lint over time. But velcro can be cleaned.Despite some design shortcomings, Cotton Carrier is still a godsend for aesthetic, nature, urban and wedding photographers who want something to help carry an arsenal of choice lenses and one or two cameras at once. Overall, I'm surprised how Cotton Carrier helps me carry cumbersome loads with much greater ease, also helping me swap some of my five main lenses and two lens extenders faster when surprise photo op moments are happening.Configuring and buying a Cotton Carrier system piecemeal can cost you plenty extra and can be confusing. Thus you need to use the B&H website search feature by searching for "Cotton Carrier" to look into all the exact components you might need before you buy them.If you are a pro or serious photographer with a lot of expensive gear to protect and carry while walking, the price of a Cotton Carrier solution may be well worthwhile for the sturdy construction, efficiency, versatility and added safety provided. This is one accessory product I'm happy to find.

I bought this prior to shooting at a 3 day all day track meet, because I'd come down with a biceps tendonitis and shooting with my heavy 70-200 f/2.8 was hurting. This allowed me to quickly and easily go back and forth from hands free to taking pictures, and the tendonitis was manageble. Plus I looked pretty good out there on the infield, like I belonged there :-)

It's well thought out and designed and well built for sure.

The only reason it is not 5 stars is that the weight of my 70-200 lens puts serious torque on the battery grip attached to the body when in the vest, making me fearful it could bend the metal connections. The configuration is not quite 'tuned' for a big lens in combination with a camera battery grip. or maybe I am not quite adjusting things correctly. It won't quite put the weight of the lens onto my body as it sticks out too far when hanging there, instead the battery grip is getting that weight perpendicular to the body/grip plane of attachment if that makes any sense.

Without a battery grip, or with a lightweight lens, it is stellar.

The majority of the time I use the Canon 100-400 USM II on my gripped Canon 7DMKII. I have tried the over shoulder straps that attach to the tripod lug but found them lacking when doing nature/wildlife photography. This vest is a blessing for carrying longer lenses in rough terrain comfortably.

I have been looking for something like this for many years. A camera bag is not the answer. My camera is safe & secure on this vest, without the inconvenience of my camera hanging on my neck
& shoulder. There are many adjustments to be made to give the vest a personalized fit. Once adjustments are made it is ready to wear, with only one fastener to disconnect for taking the vest off & on. The camera is attached to the front of the vest by means of a tripod type hub. You will never again go back to a bag for carrying your camera !

It also allows me to carry a backpack with additional equipment if need be. Lightweight and fits well. The mounting fitting works fine, The tripod adaptor is not as convenient as I would like but workable.

Cotton Carrier it's really good. After a few hours carrying heavy camera and lens my neck and back were devastated. Now I'm relaxed and very comfortable. The Universal Adapter Plate can be used with the major brands of tripod. Recommend.

I need to walk about a mil and a half to get to my site, carrying about 8 lbs.My neck and shoulders were getting very painful. The Camera Vest is fabulous: I was a little concerned as I am quite small, but with the adjustments, it fits and works beautifully, and is very comfortable. The instructions were quite clear, and it was easy to put everything together. It is easy to slide the camera out. I have only used the vest twice since I received it, but I think I made a good investment!!!

It took me a few minutes to get it adjusted, but it worked great while hiking through steep areas. I used it primarily to tote my Canon 5D Mark III with the 70-200mm attached. I did find it a little difficult to disengage from the slot at one point since the anchor had shifted, but I simply learned to tighten it a little more to prevent that from happening again. Now, I love to hit the trials with it!

Comments about Cotton Carrier Camera Vest ONLY (Black):

I am an avid hiker and backpacker, so I needed a way to carry my camera when I had a bulky backpack on. This is my first and only camera carrying system I've used. (never even put a neckstrap on my Nikon D7100)

I'm about 6 foot 3" and pretty thin, this vest still fits nicely though. My only complaint about the fit would be that the material along the shoulder straps is slightly uncomfortable against skin, when I'm wearing a tank top with the vest.

The Cotton Carrier is fantastic to have when backpacking, the camera is right there for quick access and you can wear it comfortably with a backpack.

                              Cons:

The instructions are god awful and almost non-existent. Being new to DSLR photography I had a hard time figuring out how the Cotton Carrier would work with my L-Bracket and Nikon D7100. After a couple hours I finally figured out that the included universal tripod adapter was useless.

To use the cotton carrier with a L-Bracket, simply attach the angled hub piece into the L-Bracket, (provided your L-Bracket has a screw hole) nothing else is needed.

Another minor flaw to be aware of is that the camera can become stuck inside the vest. I was running down the Great Sand Dunes wearing the Cotton Carrier, when I reached the bottom of a sand dune I noticed my camera would not come out. It turns out, the hub had rotated while inside the slot, causing it to get jammed up. I had to rotate the camera around a couple times until the hub was back in the correct position, and the camera came free.

I imagine this was simply because I didn't tighten the hub to the L-Bracket enough. So that's more my fault than the Cotton Carriers.

The Cotton Carrier is fantastic to take on bike rides, hikes, and anything else frankly. While it may not be the most fashionable thing to wear while on your adventures, I would highly recommend this to anyone who want's a rock solid and comfortable camera carrying system.

I do a lot of walking outdoors and like a camera ready if I see a site I want to photograph. I have tried various types of holders with limited satisfaction. This vest works great. Camera is always ready. The only way this product could be improved is to have a small storage pocket.
