I bought a Pentax 65 EDII Angled spotting scope and B&H had a package deal that included this tripod for free. As an astronomer and professional photographer I expected the tripod to be so-so...well I could use it for another light stand. Wow...was I wrong...it is a very nice tripod and while I wouldn't put my Hasselblad or 4"x5" cameras on it, it works fine for 35mm or my spotting scope. It has a nice fluid head and the tripod goes more than high enough to be useful with the angle viewer of my spotting scope even at my 6' height. It has a neat lock that releases the legs so they can splay out to get it down low...or you can reverse the head on the other end of the riser for ultra low level for photography. The legs use a thumb lever lock which works fine. I have the same thing on another expensive tripod and it has lasted me 25 years. It came with a nice nylon case and after a week or so I noticed a pocket inside...it has a wrench which matched the bolts and screws on the leg logs so you can adjust them for tightness as they get older...a nice touch. The fluid head works quite well too...and especially with the spotting scope so obviously B&H made a good match of the scope and tripod. The head is held on with a standard bolt common to all tripod so I was able to swap it out with a couple of other ones I had like a ball head for use with my 35mm camera. The head also has a nice positive quick release lock which I especially love when here in the freezing Michigan winters when I have gloves on...nothing like trying to thread a small screw with gloves on to frustrate you. It is light enough to be packable when I backpack too. The ad said it was valued at $[$]...and I have to agree that that price is really about right and not wildly inflated. The riser column has a lock but not a crank elevator...that would have added a lot of weight though so don't need it.

This tripod came with the purchase of Pentax binoculars. The tripod is reasonably stable and functions well. The fluid head works well and makes pointing the binoculars easy and smooth. My main concern with the tripod is the plastic locks on the legs. They do not grip very well and needed adjustment when received. The locks are also pretty flimsy and I do not think they will hold up well, time will tell.

Came with a PF-80ED 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope. That's a great Tripod for the money. Extendable to full height and still fairly stable. And it doesn't come with this idiotic foam on the legs like most other tripods.

Comments about Pentax WF-533 Fluid Head Tripod:

This tripod was a free bonus item that came with binoculars. It's well made and considering the higher power of the binoculars has become a welcome accessory for distant viewing. It does require a tripod adapter for binocular use but can be used as-is for cameras.

Comments about Pentax WF-533 Fluid Head Tripod:

I've only had it for about 1 week, and used it about 3-4 times. So far I'm pleased. It is very light and easy to carry, and it seems adequately stable. The controls and locks are ok. I've used it on beach sand, grass, and pavement. When tightening the elevation control I have to aim high and support it with one hand or it will "sag" down. I use it with a 40X spotting scope. It does ok even in 20+ mph winds.

No complaints, and I have many tripods much heavier that can support large format cameras (i.e. 4x5" and larger). But they don't have fluid heads, which are a definite plus with spotting scopes.

The mounting plate and receiver on tripod head have proven secure.

Works well with the binoculatrs after making a tripod mount for the glasses. Pod seems good for a medium weight and duty piece of equipment.

I got this tripod as a freebie with the purchase of the Pentax 20x60 PCF WP II Binocular and I was pleasantly surprised that this tripod was a beauty. However there was no binocular tripod adapter supplied. This is a stable easy to use tripod.

Comments about Pentax WF-533 Fluid Head Tripod:

I received this tripod for free as an in incentive to buy a Pentax spotting scope. When I received it I found that the pan function was so tight the head wouldn't budge. I accidentally bent the arm just trying to rotate the head (the lock screw was fully loosened). This speaks to the defectively tight pan mechanism and a weak control arm. Not sure if I should contact BH or Pentax or just write it off. I would definitely not recommend buying it, or letting its gift influence your choice of spotting scope vendors.

Very stable to support the 20x60 binoculars and fully adjustable legs. Included a storage zippered bag. Thanks B & H Photo. I will buy again.

Comments about Pentax WF-533 Fluid Head Tripod:

Tripod came free with a spotting scope. I returned the spotting scope, so I also returned this tripod. It probably would have been ok to use with the scope, had I kept it. Probably wouldn't use this with a full size DSLR with medium (or longer) tele lens.

Free is good and the quality is also good for a spotting scope mount.
