Beautiful Photos and Movies Without the Blur
In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose your shot and capture the moment. You just press, aim and shoot. Once you've selected the iA Mode, the detection and correction functions go to work to give you beautiful photos and movies with maximum ease.
Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) - Shake Detection
Everyone has had an experience of taking a photo at night and hoping to capture all the memories and beauty, only to be disappointed at the poor result. Panasonic has worked on the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. You get bright photos without blurring even from handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds.
Intelligent ISO Control - Motion Detection
The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting.
Intelligent Exposure - Light Detection
The Intelligent Exposure instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark due to dim lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. Adjusting the brightness of dark areas, this produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eye. When there is strong backlighting, the background appears nice and bright, but the subject is dark. This function detects backlight condition and compensates it automatically.
Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition
The DMC-TS20 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. The conventional face detection system captures a face with focus and appropriate exposure but sometimes it falls not on the face you want to capture most beautifully when there are several faces in a frame. The Face Recognition prioritizes focus and exposure right on the face of your special person. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using the Category Playback. The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal). The camera takes care of the red-eye effect that often happens when shooting with a flash, to ensure attractive facial expression.
Intelligent Scene Selector - Scene Detection
When the camera's in the iA Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically sets the Scene Mode to one of Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait, Night Scenery or Sunset. The camera judges it from the various detection results such as focusing and brightness level of the circumstance. You are free from annoying settings every time scene changes when taking images with these most frequently used Scene Modes to get beautiful results even before you know it.
AF Tracking - Subject Detection
Once you focus on your subject, the AF Tracking automatically tracks it until you press the shutter. When you're taking images of an active subject, like children or pets, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus. The AF Tracking makes sure you don't miss those once-in-a-lifetime shooting opportunities. The DMC-TS20 also features the Quick AF. Ordinary AF is activated when the shutter button is pressed half-way, while the Quick AF starts operating as soon as the camera is pointed toward a subject. This dramatically reduces the shutter delay time and lets you take images quickly. Its super-fast focus is ideal for capturing quick images of active children and pets. By setting the camera to the Quick AF, images of sudden shooting opportunities won't be out of focus or blurry.
Select from 4 Aspect Ratios Featuring 1:1 Aspect Mode
In addition to 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9, you can now shoot with a 1:1 aspect ratio. This unique square frame adds to your image expression possibilities. The 16:9 ratio produces images that match the aspect ratio of an HDTV screen. Being able to match the aspect ratio to your subject and shooting intent gives you even greater control.
Built-In Memory 70MB
Take photos even when you don't have an SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to approx. 70MB of image data, which you can later copy to an SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card or computer. You can also copy images from a memory card or computer to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like. In addition to providing extra memory when your memory card fills up, this is a great place to store your favorite photos so you can view them anytime you want.

The images recorded with GPS information are automatically sorted by the place name making it easy and fun to organize the images taken on your travel. For the portraits, the Face Recognition function that recognizes the faces in the picture automatically sorts the photos by the registered faces without picking out each photo one by one when you only want images of a specific person. You can also enjoy making photo and movie slideshows with a variety of effects and use your iTunes music library as background music. It is also possible to put a title or add comments on the scene utilizing the information from people's names registered in Face Recognition. After being dropped, a nearly new digital camera was history. Only then I realized the silver casing was made of plastic. Decided to shop around for something more robust. Spent days on end researching to get it right and found this. Shock, AND dust AND waterproof, but was concerned about picture quality. No more. This baby takes GREAT pictures. In extreme close up, even the "hairs" of the four leaf clove can be seen (see image hereon attached). Fantastic. The HD videos were also amazing. Super clear with great audio. No more worrying about dropping it, the beach, the pool, pics around the kitchen, falls.

Now the .pdf manual has a flaw referring to a non existent "up and down" arrows to reach the Panorama mode. It´s in fact, pressing "mode"--> selecting "scene" --> "Panorama shot", resolved on a quick customer service chat. There´s also a slew of different settings which might confuse some users, but simply set it to "Intelligent Auto", the camera adjusts it automatically and case closed.

I have not used it under water, though. It looks so much like a regular digital camera, it´s going to take some courage...

I´ve had it for only two days, but so far I simply LOVE this purchase.

I have purchased many items from B&H over the years. I had great success with Pentax underwater cameras and have purchased many SLR lenses for my Canon. For that reason, I went with B&H again for this purchase. The camera arrived in great condition and quickly, however, the photo and video quality was poor in comparison to our older model Pentax. We later (a few weeks) tested it in the water and were shocked to see the screen shorting out. We dried according to the instructions. Once dry, we opened the battery/memory card door and there was water all inside. We contacted B&H and were told they could not help and to contact Panasonic. Panasonic refused to send a label for the camera or offer a replacement (we had the camera less than a month). They would only repair. We will be purchasing locally next time; never again will I purchase a Panasonic. The Pentax W60 has been the best camera we have used in wet conditions. We used it for 3 years in South America and numbers times in the gulf coast waters - sometimes submerged for hours at a time.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS20 Digital Camera (Orange):

The Good: Super quick response, great water shots, small and compact. Tough. The Bad: Onshore shots, not bad, but not great.I got this camera after having a waterproof sony. I wanted something that was quicker to turn on, and start shooting. This camera does just that. Also, if it is a sunny day, the watershots are amazing. However if it a little foggy, or on land, the shots were only OK. I thought that the Sony took better pictures, but this camera is easier to use, quicker, and tougher.

I just got his camera for a trip, excited about trying out its cool features, but it took hazy pictures. It might be me getting used to the features, but the fact of the matter is that other point and shoot cameras I have owned don't have this issue. Also, every time I turn it on I have to click out of an underwater advisory. Now, there may be a way to figure it out, but in the middle of a vacation I didn't want to!

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS20 Digital Camera (Black):

I have used this camera for my trek in Grand Canyon National Park and for the GR20 in Corsica. I did drop it on the ground and it was OK even if it hit a rock. I also carried it with me when it rained and everything was fine. My pictures are amazing and I am glad I can rely on it for my treks in difficult terrain.

A little more than what I wanted to spend but seems like a good camera.
Easy to use, I like real controls and not just endless menus. Have only used in automatic so far and don't plan to use underwater though it touts that capability. I like having both optical zoom and dig zoom.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS20 Digital Camera (Black):

I took a couple of hundred pictures on my recent trip. This included both underwater, outdoor and indoor photos.

                  Underwater:
                  - picture quality was pretty good. Went snorkeling and got a few good snapshots of the fishes underwater.

                  Outdoor:
                  - quality seems to be better than that ones taken underwater. I'm not sure if it matter if I had a more steady shot compared to when I was underwater (had some currents so it was wavy water).

                  Indoor:
                  - I switched to the night scenario and took some pictures at Universal Studios. Unless you had a steady hand and held that position for at least a second, the picture will come out grainy and orange.

I recommend this camera for those who are not picky about the every little detail. For underwater and outdoor photography, I think it goes a good job for the price I paid for it. It's definitely no DSLR camera but I'm satisfied with the outcome of the pictures.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS20 Digital Camera (Red):

It's small and it's weatherproof. I shot today in pouring rain. I would have freaked if my GH2 got soaked. The lens is internal, so you don't have this obscene thing sticking out the front of your camera to break, catch on your pocket, and collect water and sand. The lens isn't that great, fuzzy at the corners at the widest, and soft on tele. It doesn't have the fastest chip, this camera's max ISO is 1600, versus 25,000 on the new one; but look at the price - this one is a third the price. And remember, you have it with you, that huge heavy DSLR is back in the car where it can't take any pictures at all.

Compact easy to use. Good quality images but don't bother to use it at full resolution as you just get bigger files without and noticible increase in IQ. Nicely made. If you have big hands, as I do, you will have to get used to keeping your fingers out of the way of the flash. Shutter lag is minimal as long as you are not using flash. The button for the controls are kind of small.

gave 4 of these to our granddaughters who absolutely love them....including the underwater feature. We now have lots of pictures of wave patterns in the pool! Easy to operate, good viewer and good quality. Well worth the money.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS20 Digital Camera (Orange):

I bought this camera as a present and after seeing it I'm buying one for myself. It is small enough to comfortably fit in my pocket and takes great pictures. I was also excited to find out that it has a panoramic feature. The only small complaint I have is the minimal amount of zoom.
