Panasonic's Lumix DMC-TS4 Digital Camera (Blue) will be there for you when other cameras stumble and fall--it's built to survive a drop of 6.6' (2 m), it's waterproof to 39.37' (12 m), dustproof, and freezeproof to 14°F (-10°C)--as close to indestructible as a compact digital camera gets. And the TS4 is your best travel companion: it has built-in GPS that geo-tags your pictures with the Country/Region/Town where they were taken, as well as a compass, an altimeter, a barometer, and a world clock that will automatically set itself to local time!
And what makes the TS4 an image-maker par excellence? 12.1MP of resolution, a 4.6x Leica wide-angle 28-128mm (35mm equivalent) lens, full 1920 x 1080 HD video, and a bright 2.7" LCD monitor with 230K-dot resolution. Sonic AF gives you very fast autofocus, and the shutter lag is one of the shortest among compact digital cameras. It has Power O.I.S. image stabilization plus a Motion Deblur function, so you never have to look at another blurry photo, and your videos won't make you queasy. Face Detection and Recognition modes give you great photos of people by optimizing exposure and focus for faces, and Intelligent Resolution ensures great image quality even using high ISO sensitivity (up to 6400).
8 color modes help you tweak pictures creatively and a variety of Scene modes (for photos and movies) maximize every image for you. You can share any picture or movie you shoot by uploading to sites such as Facebook or YouTube, using the included, easy-to-use Lumix Image Uploader.

I made a thorough research before purchasing this camera. I believe that the issues that people looking for this type of camera face is mainly resistance, resources and overall specs. Almost all the tests and reviews I've watched focused mostly on resistance, and all of them definitely shows that the TS4 is the tougher camera among its competitors, there isn't much said or comparison on image quality, ergonomics, ease of use, video mode, etc…
Another doubt that comes to mind is deciding if the TS4 is worth the extra money over the TS3. It's also very hard to tell, I couldn't compare them side by side but after using the TS4 for a while, I went to a store to test a TS3. My impression was not as conclusive as I thought, it really seemed to me that it was much more of a software update than hardware. By just handling and taking a few shots it's very hard to notice difference in image quality or GPS, altimeter, barometer and compass accuracy, only a very thorough analysis should set them apart, but the thing is, as a consumer I expected to be blown out by a newer model and new features. So if you own a TS3 it's definitely not worth the upgrade, but if you're buying it for the first time, like myself, I'd go for the newer version, improved here and there.
Like I said, big big difference noticed was the camera's software. All menus and scene modes were simplified, made cleaner and easier to access. It's very intuitive and almost every item on screen when selected it shows a brief description of what that item is and what it does to your picture/camera.
CONCLUSION: It is definitely a great, compact and TOUGH camera. Since it is made for extreme sports and everything that demands from the camera I really think that it should have only resources for this kind of usage, even more than it already has (ex: in camera HDR processing, different video resolutions and fps) . Getting in to the scene modes and seeing extra icons with not only 1, but 2 Baby modes! Food mode, Pet mode and so on, for me it seems a little useless and gives a "family fun" feeling to a camera designed for sports and adventure. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of great and useful resources such as panorama shot, time lapse, auto bracket, miniature effect, macro zoom, landscape, night photography and so on.
Apart from that, I'm very satisfied with image quality, video is excellent with different compressions and in camera effects. I was very impressed with its speed, you push power button and take a picture in less than 3 seconds, focus is also very fast. Another incredible feature is that the led light used for the camera to focus in low light conditions can also be used as a continuous light in movie mode so you can light up people and objects while shooting videos at night or under waters that aren't very clear.
I'd definitely recommend this camera/model for anyone looking for a waterproof compact.
Good clicks to you all!

Buyer Beware! Panasonic will not honor their warranty!
I am very distressed that I am forced to post this complaint about Panasonic not honoring their explicit warranty on a Lumix DMC-TS3 "underwater" camera.
I am an experienced underwater photographer with three underwater cameras and 9 years experience. I have never had a case leakage or any damage to one of my cameras. I know how to care for expensive camera equipment at the beach and underwater.
I purchased a new Lumix DMC-TS3 "underwater and 6 foot drop proof" camera for my wife to use. She is also an experienced photographer and knows how to care for a camera. We liked the Lumix as an easy to use light weight simple point and shoot for shallow water snorkeling. One its first trip, only 6 weeks old, it failed after only 7 days of shallow snorkeling. It was never more than 6 feet underwater and at all times cared for exactly according to the manual. It was never dropped or otherwise damaged. I was sorry it failed so soon on its first trip but we did have our larger underwater cameras so I was not too concerned. I was sure Panasonic would replace or repair the camera and I would have been happy with that.
I returned the camera as instructed to Panasonic certain they would honor their warranty and advertising. I was shocked when they called and said the warranty was void because there was "condensation" inside the camera. I carefully explained that the camera was cared for exactly according to their manual and should be under warranty. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they would contact me in 3-4 working days. They never called or emailed me. I then called Panasonic warranty service two more times. Each time I got the same answer: the warranty was void and someone would call me but no one ever did. I am now left without a camera. I would never buy from Panasonic again and caution anyone else considering a purchase from them. If you do not care about a warranty and possible early camera failure then buy Panasonic, otherwise BEWARE PANASONIC. I have now found numerous other complaints on the web about the exact same treatment from Panasonic. This appears to be a corporate policy and not an isolated incident.

Taking into consideration the specs, price, and results we've seen with this camera, it was the perfect choice. The only downside is low-light indoor shots, but that's to be expected with a camera of this type.

Great all around camera. I was very happy with the underwater quality of the pictures, esp. for the price. I was also happy with the standard landscape pictures, even coming from a very small lens. I used the camera while snorkeling in Kona. If you follow the directions for underwater use you should not have any problems. The battery life is amazing. I am very happy with the camera.

I only have limited use so far as I took this camera on a 10-day business trip. It spent most of the trip in my pocket.
I used the panarama option quite a bit and it worked flawlessly.
I hadn't much time to learn how to use all the options and had trouble figuring them out 'on-the-go'. [Examples are the GPS functions, altimeter, getting rid of the "make sure I am closed tight" splash screen, etc.]

When the camera leaks water and you send it back to Panasonic, they will come up with a reason that it is not covered by warranty and either try to charge you for a repair or refuse to repair the camera. This has happened to myself and a lot of other people. Just do a search on the internet. Panasonic is an evil company and their support is downright hostile toward consumers. Go with a Canon, GoPro, or some other brand.

For those that already purchased the camera there are simple tests that you can do to confirm what I'm describing here. If you're living in a place where sunlight is limited like I'm, just simply point your camera directly at an incandescent light and gently sway your camera from side to side the reflective light gray/blueish vertical lines/bands will show up in your lcd screen. Now switch to the record mode and do the same motion while recording, I'm pretty sure you'll be disappointed with the video that you just took. If you're living in a place where sunlight is abundant, just point it to the sun and do the same motion you will know what I'm talking about. Now if you want to intensify this effect, take the photoshoot at an outdoor pool. For this effect to happen you'll have to shoot it in the direction of the sun where there are lots of sun rays reflected off the water. Keep in mind this camera is designed for the outdoor water activities. At the msrp suggested price and substandard customer service, it's definitely a ripoff. I wanted to share a short video but unfortunately the post didn't have that option. I'm writing this to warn consumers like myself which rely heavily on consumer reviews before making a purchase. I purchased this camera based on TS3 and TS4 top rated reports by many reputable sites and now hugely DISAPPOINTED.

I was going on a Cruise and wanted a camera with the best wide angle lens I could afford. It had to take sharp pictures and be easy to use. The camera of my choice also had to have a clean look and feel comfortable in my hands.
This camera has a great wide angle lens I take everything in nothing is missing in my shots. The pictures are crystal clear and the camera is easy to use. As for looks it has them and the camera is substantial in my hands.
You will need an extra battery so you don't miss out on any great shots.

Comments about Lumix DMC-TS4 Digital Camera (Blue):
I was going on a Cruise and wanted a camera with the best wide angle lens I could afford. It had to take sharp pictures and be easy to use. The camera of my choice also had to have a clean look and feel comfortable in my hands.
This camera has a great wide angle lens I take everything in nothing is missing in my shots. The pictures are crystal clear and the camera is easy to use. As for looks it has them and the camera is substantial in my hands.
You will need an extra battery so you don't miss out on any great shots.
