The Zacuto DSLR Baseplate Z-DSLR-B is designed to fit tall and short camera bodies, including cameras with a battery grip. It's the foundation for a wide range of DSLR video rig configurations, including the Single Action, the Fast Draw, and the Double Barrel. Two threaded black 3.5" 15mm mini-rails for accommodating follow focus and matte boxes are included.
The front has two levels for rods: the top level is for mounting follow focuses, matte boxes, zoom/focus motors and lens support; the bottom level rods are used mostly for lens support and single or double hand grips. Rear rod holes are for rod extensions to support battery power, wireless plates, monitors and other accessories that you may need when using a tripod. Rod holes on the left and right are for mounting a gunstock and the offset shoulder pad and counterweight for hand-held use. You can also mount a top handle, monitor arms and the cage (which would use both sides at the same time).
A quick-release plate allows you to instantly remove your camera for standalone use--the bottom plate mounts to your tripod using included 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screws. This DSLR baseplate makes it not only possible, but fairly easy, to go from shoulder-mounted to handheld to locked down on legs while shooting video with your DSLR--without breaking a sweat.

Comments about Zacuto DSLR Baseplate Z-DSLR-B:
I use this with my Canon 5D Mark III. It is very well built. The first one I received from B&H was banged up on the edges leaving a couple of metal exposed areas that were very sharp. B&H as usual dealt with the issue promptly...great customer service pre & post sale! It is quite functional and appears that it will last for many years. Zacuto states that it is US manufactured...sort of. According to their documentation, it is assembled in the US...close enough. The folks at Zacuto were a great help in explaining to me what parts could be used with the baseplate now and how it could be expanded in the future. This was terrific because it prevented me from buying components that would not be usable as I expanded my system down the road. Great experience all around!

Comments about Zacuto DSLR Baseplate Z-DSLR-B:
I needed a baseplate to rig my 5D mk II onto a tripod with the battery grip still attached. This does that and more. It feels solid and the quick release is a good idea for those moments when you quickly need to go hand held.
For any DSLR shooter making films, this is a must have item.

A must if you're shooting DSLR. Easily attaches and detaches your DSLR. It has heaps of different options for other attachments, which is fantastic as often you will need to add or re configure your set up for different shoot requirements. Awesome build quality which is usual for Zacuto but very pricey as well.

Comments about Zacuto DSLR Baseplate Z-DSLR-B:
I shoot in a variety of locations where the light, quick-release Zacuto baseplate is a time-saver. Strong, light and with a real 'quality' feel. One negative, there is no forward/backward adjustment so short lenses (like my Nikon 1.4 50mm) are hard to set up with FF & matte box.

Comments about Zacuto DSLR Baseplate Z-DSLR-B:
I've already got a shoulder mount but I needed a quick release baseplate with rails. I've got the Zacuto EVF & Z-finder, love their quality, so I decided to buy this baseplate after reading reviews online. I totally dig it. I've got a battery grip on my 5D so I love the fact that I can adjust the baseplate down. Not much more to add other than it works perfectly for my needs and the quality is the typical stellar Zacuto quality. I love it.

Comments about Zacuto DSLR Baseplate Z-DSLR-B:
I really enjoy this baseplate. Between having both sized tripod mounting screws on the bottom, and 8 different locations to attach 15mm rails this product will keep serving you for years. It's incredibly well built and feels durable in your hands. the weight might be a little much for somebody putting together a handheld rig but for shoulder mounts or tripod work this baseplate really shines.
I use it to attach my DSLR, Mattebox, and monitor all to 15mm rails so I can put the whole thing on my tripod. I really enjoy the separate camera release plate. This gives you the ability to take the camera off and change lenses without having to remove the entire rig from the tripod or taking apart the entire rig just to get to the lens.
The baseplate also allows you to position the camera up/down as well as left/right to ensure the mattebox lines up properly.
