Waterproof to a Depth of 3 Meters

Swim along with tropical fish, capture shots of a beautiful coral reef, or get action footage of a friend snorkeling. Waterproofing also means you can shoot in the rain or snow with no worries.

Movies

Bright HD Movie Recording
Even with its light weight and slim design, the HX-WA2 renders images in breathtaking, high-definition beauty. You can record clear images even when in dimly lit places--like indoors and at parties. You can preserve precious memories in stunning image quality for watching on a large-screen TV or sharing on the web.
15x Intelligent Zoom for Motion Image Shooting
In addition to an optical zoom, the HX-WA2 lets you shoot motion images with a maximum 15x Intelligent Zoom with no image quality degradation. You can get a flexible shooting range, from wide-angle to dynamic zooming.
iA (Intelligent Auto)
This powerful function senses the shooting conditions and automatically makes the settings and activates functions that will deliver optimal results. With both motion and still images, iA does the bothersome settings for you and makes it easy to capture beautiful, well-focused images.
Intelligent Scene Selector
The Intelligent Scene Selector function analyzes the shooting situation and automatically switches the Dual Camera to the suitable scene mode that will give you optimal results. Scene modes are Portrait, Scenery, Spotlight, and Low Light, for a range of exposure options.
E.I.S. (Electrical Image Stabilizer)
The E.I.S. (Electrical Image Stabilizer) system helps to correct the kind of hand-shake blurring that often happens with compact cameras. Record all the images you want, whether you're shooting while walking, or taking self-portraits, without having to worry about blurring.

Photos

14MP Still Picture Recording

This replaced a Sanyo that broke a few days before our trip. I wanted another unit that had the same or better performance than what I was used too and I got it. The HX-WA2 takes excellent pictures and videos. It really brought out the colors of our fall New England trip. If you want the ease of taking a picture and then a video, this camera does just that. The manual is thick but that can be overcome with a little effort. The only issue I had is that it does not come with its own case. Fortuntately my Sanyo Xacti unit did and it fit the new Panasonic. Do buy an extra battery as this always comes in handy and get a large capacity storage card. I got an 8GB but went to @ and got a 32GB which came in handy as videos take up a lot of storage space.

My previous waterproof cameras merely required a quick rinse under a faucet and a toweling, before they were safe to open. According to the manual, this camera must be shaken in a special way, and then leaned against something to keep it upright for an unspecified time, to allow water to drain from its waterproof shell. The manual doesn't say how to deal with sediment and minerals eventually clogging the drain holes, allowing it to drain into the interior when opened.

Also from the manual: A tripod screw a hair to large and/or tight can crack the waterproof housing. If used in salt water, a fresh water soaking, not to exceed ten minutes, must start within an hour. If the camera is subject to rough handling (unspecified) the waterproof seal can leak.

From the manual: Careful inspection is required in a safe area before each closing. Sand, hair, or even dust or lint on the paper thin O ring can cause a leak. A special brush, included, is required to remove the almost microscopic particles.

From the manual: Even if you don't get the camera wet, it's subject to condensation inside, and malfunction. This can be caused by temperature changes by going inside to outside - or cool water hitting the camera on a warm day. Because the lens components aren't sealed, condensation can also form there. If it can't be dried out, it can cause fungus growth on the lens.

The O rings need to be replaced at least once a year.

Menus are navigated and operated with a floppy, non tactile, half inch button/joystick. The button has to be pulled exactly left/right/up/down to get the desired results. Pressing doesn't work. I don't have big fingers. I had to hook my fingernail under the tiny ridge around the button to pull it exactly. To make my intended selection, my finger had to come down perfectly straight on the button.

The delay timer requires difficult menu navigation, as described above, for each picture. So much for fun and spontaneity.

I used the camera once in shade, and the automatic white balance didn't work. Everything looked like it was shot through dark blue glass. The instructions say the automatic white balance doesn't always work and suggest always setting it manually. That would include going from sun to shade. See joystick menu navigation above.

There are probably lots of other problems with this camera, but I only used it for about two hours. It is poorly designed, difficult to use and seems basically self destructive. The automatic functions don't always work. Panasonic should be totally ashamed of themselves.

      It's going back.

Althought not the best camcorder in termof quality, it's worth it for the price and for it's tough build. A bit complicated at first but you can get the hang of it quite quicly, specially with the intelligent fonction where it chooses your focus automatically.

Shipping was very timely, the pre-paid customs (Canada)is a great option. Charged up the camera Christmas morning, everything worked right out of the box. Is it top of the line picture?...no but its a better camera then the $400 one I bought two years ago.Instruction were good, easy to use, plan to use the underwater feature for fishing, only draw back is the buttons are very close together, but with practice this should improve, sound is what one would suspect. All in all good little camera.

Comments about HX-WA2 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Blue):

Most important for me is to have a camera that is quick and ready too shoot at any time. All you have to do with this is to flip the screen, the camera turns on and press record. The whole operation takes about 4 seconds.

The HX-WA2 is a pocket camcorder that can do pretty much everything you can ask for given the size and the price.

The large menu offers a great amount of control. Easy navigation. Lots of useful options.

The pistol grip offers comfortable efficient ergonomics.

                Shoots 1080

                Shoots both 30 and 60p

                image stabilization is great

goes from 50 to 1600 iso.

I'm going to get a lot of use out of this camera.

I bought this because I wanted a video camera that could get wet, shoot at 60fps and have a high megapixel still camera. My first disappointment? NO LENSE CAP. Nothing to protect it. You have to keep this in a bag all the time to protect the lense. No matter how still I kept the camera, and even with the image stabilizer on, the videos were shaky. You have to push really hard on the button to take a still picture and sometimes, no matter how hard you push, no picture gets taken. You must set the white balance on the video manually or you will get terrible color on automatic. And stills always have a strange color cast. I am really bummed about this camera. You have to recharge battery frequently too.

Bought this camera for a vacation on the island of Elba. Testet it at home before leaving, followed the instrustions for use and after 20 min. of scuba diving with my 12 year old son the darn thing stopped working. No signs of water in the batteri area, no other unusual events. We used the camera at less then 3 ft under water.... rinsed the camera in a bucket for fresh water and even reviewd the videos on the beach. Then a message came up - Connect to USB... Then it all went black. Not able to revive! Kicked the bucket, Dead!

Very easy to use once you realise you have to hit the still picture button in the center to take a picture. Both pictures and vids very very good and clear.

Compact-fits easily in pants pocket. Nice pistol grip-very easy to use. Takes great photos. Probably will never use underwater capability, but nice to know rain and snow will not affect the camera.

Software that came with camera is adequate, but explanations could be improved on.

Comments about HX-WA2 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Blue):
