Questions? Ask our experts:

Datacolor's SpyderPRINT allows photographers, designers and imaging professionals to manage the color of their print output -- it's a great tool for print matching and can reduce the amount of paper and ink used in the long run.

By selecting any combination of printer, ink and media in the software, SpyderPRINT provides a full assortment of tools. You'll be able to create any number of custom profiles to ICC standards. After installing the software, you can print your choice of targets with your printer and then use the SpyderGuide device to guide you through the process to calibrate and build a profile.

The SpyderProof feature provides a series of images to help you evaluate details and compare it with your images. Additionally, you can adjust profile settings to get the best possible printed output for images.

Please note! SpyderPRINT builds RGB ICC profiles. Please check with the manufacturer of your laser printer of the developer of your RIP software to determine if your laser printer or RIP is compatible with RGB format ICC profiles.

Profiling Speed and Accuracy
The spectrocolorimeter gives you custom profiles in minutes with EZ targets for color and black and white. The SpyderGuide device provides convenience in reading the printed targets to help you create profiles easily and accurately
Intuitive Profiling Software
The step-by-step process affords improved usability. The program makes it easy to follow the calibration of the targets and help you build a profile
SpyderProof
This function gives you a series of carefully selected images to evaluate detail with a photographer's point of view. This feature is available for each unique printer profile that you create, providing you with a soft-proofing tool that is invaluable in managing your printed output
Total Control
Advanced controls are included in the Color and Black & White Tinting curves in your Image Editor, which allows you to apply adjustments to the profile rather than to each individual image. The Extended Grays Target allows you to add precision gray and near-gray data to profiles, enhancing the quality of tinted and black and white prints
Extensive Editing Functions
Flexible target options and high patch profiling targets produce gallery-quality prints in color or black and white. Easily select prebuilt or custom sets of advanced profile settings to produce profiles with specific combinations of highlight and shadow tint, details and neutrality settings

      Comments about Datacolor SpyderPRINT:

This unit made all the difference in the world! Easy to use, and results are immediate. Took a few passes to get the hang of scanning the little squares smoothly, but after that, calibrations went real quick. Took less than a day to calibrate all my printers with the variety of papers we use.

Tough to make it work properly on Epson

            Comments about Datacolor SpyderPRINT:

This product does its job for sure, however you should be prepared to surprises and work hard to make it work. The first item I received from B&H was defective (unfortunately). It used to read violet colors as blue and therefore all blues on images were printed as violet. Data Color support proved to be totally useless. I got first answer from them in more than a week since I sent the question. Further correspondence from them was like "… Are you 100% sure that your printer is not broken? ….. Could you print the test patches again send XML file to us and also include print screen with your printer settings….. You have to ensure you do your print pattern check to ensure all the colors are printed properly; & on and on and on…." that was going on for a good three weeks or so. Based on this I understood that DataColor support consider customers being idiots, who does not know where the computer power button is. Fortunately, B&H replaced defective devise which now seems to work OK. I used it with cheap presentation paper form Staples store ($[$]per 100 sheets double sided glossy) on Epson Stylus Photo 1400 loaded with ink from Ink supply web store. (Just for experimental purposes). The best results with the SpyderPrint I was able to achieve the following way:1. Created profile for my paper using saturation intent with the following printer settings: Ultra-Premium Photo Glossy paper, Speed Print OFF, Photo RPM, Edge smoothing OFF, ICM OFF;2. Converted my image to Epson Generic Profile that comes with Photoshop, or profile for high quality paper that comes with printer driver 'SP1400 1410 PGPP'. This action shifted all the colors on my image in the printer gamut area. Photoshop did not show any colors out of gamut anymore;3. Printed with settings Photoshop manages colors, Profile generated in (1), with printer settings also as in (1).No matter what else I did, the described method gave me the highest print quality. I can recommend this device to only people who know more or less software and hardware capabilities and who prepared to spend time investigating all the possible options. Personally I printed 15 times the same print with different settings to discover that the path above gives the prints, colorwse closest to those you see on calibrated screen.

                Comments about Datacolor SpyderPRINT:

Have always had an issue with printing blue colors - just never looked right no matter what the paper or profile I used. Did not matter where I printed from (PS or LR). Now I have generated my own profiles for all my papers and all is well!Do need to let the test pages fully dry before scanning (24+ hours)I use the largest number of color patches (729) plus extended gray tones - which uses (4) 8-1/2 X 11 sheets for the 'classic' targets or (9) sheets for the 'EZ' targets. So each profile does consume some printing resources - but trial and error printing and proofing time and wastes are dramatically reduced. The EZ proof targets are larger and easy to scan a line at a time with the guide - but use a lot of ink and paper - especially expensive high end paper. The classic targets are much smaller - and I was not able to routinely auto scan by line - so I scanned by individual patch using the guide. This takes longer (40 minutes for me) but the savings in paper and ink and the quality of the results are worth it.You are also able to edit or modify any generated profile using the typical proofing photos provided in the package.Canon Pixma Pro 9500 IIAsus Pro Art

                  Comments about Datacolor SpyderPRINT:

Very pleased with the results of using this piece of gear. I've used the Spyder for years to calibrate my monitors but there's always that "disconnect" between what the monitor shows and what actually comes out of the printer (no two of the same printers output exactly the same and there can be slight differences in batches of ink and paper). I always managed to get the colors and tones close by printing and adjusting, printing and adjusting...
Now, that I created ICC profiles with SpyderPrint which are specific to my paper, ink and printer combination I'm saving of time, paper and ink.
If you do a lot of printing, you really need to get one of these!
