The Zacuto Scorpion DSLR Shoulder Mount Z-DSP is designed to make shoulder-mounted DSLR video shooting easy and comfortable. It features a curved, form-fitting silicone gel shoulder pad that connects to the back of the baseplate with two 2" M/F rods. The rods screw into the back of the included DSLR baseplate and connect to the front of the shoulder pad via 15mm quick release ports, making it fast and easy to switch from shoulder mount to tripod and back.

There's also a ball joint built into the front of the shoulder pad that allows the entire shoulder pad assembly to articulate in multiple directions so you can angle it to fit your body exactly the way you want it, for maximum comfort. The shoulder assembly can be used on the left or right shoulder, and a top carry handle makes it easy to place on your shoulder and just as easy to remove it. The handle is also useful for shooting at low angles.

The front has two levels for rods: the top level is for mounting follow focuses, matte boxes, zoom/focus motors and lens support; the bottom level rods are used mostly for lens support and single or double hand grips. Rear rod holes are for rod extensions to support battery power, wireless plates, monitors and other accessories that you may need when using a tripod. Rod holes on the left and right are for mounting a gunstock and the offset shoulder pad and counterweight for hand-held use. You can also mount a top handle, monitor arms and the cage (which would use both sides at the same time).

A quick-release plate allows you to instantly remove your camera for standalone use--the bottom plate mounts to your tripod using included 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screws. This DSLR baseplate makes it not only possible, but fairly easy, to go from shoulder-mounted to handheld to locked down on legs while shooting video with your DSLR--without breaking a sweat.

Comments about Zacuto Scorpion DSLR Shoulder Mount Z-DSP:

You get what you pay although you need TONS of other pricy accessories to make it look more professional and for other arms and things that I bought to connect, I´m stuck with the Z axis and israeli arm because I don't have the connectors for it that cost more money... it should come with extra connectors with other accessories

    Best shoulder rig ever!

    By Zach Wolfe

Comments about Zacuto Scorpion DSLR Shoulder Mount Z-DSP:

I have had the scorpion for close to 2 years now. Took a bit to get dialed in but can say i cannot live without it. I have gotten so one with this rig that sometimes it does not come off my shoulder for 12 hours at a time. Clients have thought i was shooting with a stedicam when they get footage, super stable. I use with: 5d mk iii, 1dc and C100. I have tried numerous rigs and im telling you this is the one! The curved shoulder pad and long handles gives you movement no other rig can.

Comments about Zacuto Scorpion DSLR Shoulder Mount Z-DSP:

Zacuto stuff is overpriced as usual, but also as usual you get what you pay for.

The Scorpion rig is well-built, flexible, and versatile, but with some shortcomings. The gel padding on the shoulder pad could be thicker, and there is no padding on the front edge of it, which digs into my chest when the rig is fully loaded with camera, Zacuto EVF, Tascam DR100 recorder, not to mention a matte box. I have two Switronix batteries on the back of it in place of the counterweight and the rig is well-balanced, but the front of the shoulder pad assembly still digs in. I'll be looking to jerryrig my own solution to that at some point.

I've had mine for only 2 weeks and I've already stripped out the knob that tightens the carry handle. Zacuto has a reputation for being good about repairs and everything they make has a lifetime warranty so this will get fixed but this seems like a design flaw. I wonder how long it will be before I strip the knob out again.

Overall, this is a great product. It's easy to adjust to fit your body, there's lots of places to hang things off of, and it's very comfortable to use (aside from the pad digging in). I looked at a number of other rigs and I ended choosing Zacuto because I wanted stuff that was Made in the USA and stuff that would hold up over time. This is definitely it.

By the way, this rig attracts a lot of attention, even minimally loaded, so don't expect to be stealthy with this thing!

Comments about Zacuto Scorpion DSLR Shoulder Mount Z-DSP:

I purchased this rig directly from Zacuto and have been quite impressed with it. The rig is very sturdy, but it can be disassembled very quickly for storage and transportation. I mounted a quick release plate to the bottom of my Scorpion so that I can easily switch from over-the-shoulder shooting to tripod shooting by simply detaching the Scorpion Shoulder Assembly and attaching the rest of the rig to my video tripod. This is particularly useful because I have a monitor, microphone, and follow focus mounted to the rig -- all of which I also use when shooting on a tripod. I wish the rig wasn't so expensive, but it has definitely improved my production value and I'm sure it will last a very long time.

Simply the best DSLR rig out there

Comments about Zacuto Scorpion DSLR Shoulder Mount Z-DSP:

Zacuto's Scorpion rig might be heavy on your wallet and shoulder, but it's built quality and ergonomical flexibility make it the best rig out there. The magic arm I recommend over the supplied EVF mount simply because of it's infinite adjustability.
