Product Highlights
  • Fujifilm X-mount Lens
  • Very Fast f/2.0 Maximum Aperture
  • Equivalent to 27mm Wide-Angle Lens
  • Aspheric and ED Elements
  • Super EBC Lens Coating
  • Maximum Magnification of 0.14x

Designed specifically for the Fujifilm X-series of interchangeable lens cameras with APS-C sensors, this Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens is a lightweight, compact wide-angle "pancake" lens equivalent to 27mm in 35mm format. The very fast, bright f/2.0 maximum aperture makes shooting in very low light possible, and provides pleasing bokeh (the out-of-focus portion of a photo) with its 7-blade aperture design. This is a terrific lens for street photography, landscapes, and interiors.

To take advantage of the X-series cameras' mirrorless design, the rear element of the lens is as close as possible to the sensor, minimizing the back focus distance appreciably. The lens construction includes a metal barrel, Super EBC coating for improved optical performance, and it delivers improved center-to-edge resolution and brightness free from chromatic aberration. The final lens element, positioned as close to the sensor as possible, makes the incidence angle of the light reaching the sensor smaller, and thus reduces vignetting and color shading, while helping to keep the lens's overall size small. This lens has a maximum magnification of 0.14x, and the aperture ring has 1/3-stop click stops for more precise exposures.

Lightweight wide-angle 27mm (equivalent in 35mm format) "pancake" lens that focuses to 7.08"
Aspheric and ED elements to combat field curvature and chromatic aberration

Love this lens,but...the design of the hood and lens cap is the worst I have seen. the cap that fits on the hood constantly falls off and you must remove the hood to take the lens cap on or off. Pain in the butt, but the lens quality is so good I will live with it until I find a quality hood/lens cap replacement.

I was looking forward to this lens on the X-E1. I bought it along with the 60mm f/2.4 and the beautiful 35mm f/1.4. The 18mm doesn't come close to the others.

Image quality was "good", but to be honest, I didn't keep it on the camera very long because it felt so cheap I thought it might be broken. As another reviewer wrote, the aperture ring feels cheap and flimsy. You can't tell if you're settling in on a particular aperture or not. I had difficulty acquiring focus lock with it as well. Just not up to snuff, especially for the price.

It's as if this lens came from another manufacturer entirely. Sadly, I will be returning it immediately. I may opt for the 14mm f/2.8 instead.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

F stops click firmly. My 35 1.4 is too smooth. This 18 feels better in my opinion. I feel that this is too wide. The better lens might be the 23mm, but that lens is very big and more expensive. If you want a very compact wide angle, this is the best choice.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

I had Fujinon lenses when I used 4x5. The lenses with the Fujifilm E series cameras are equally as good. I am very impressed and pleased with the quality I am getting from the E-100. It comes close to my Canon 5D MkII!! and I would say that the high ISO's are even better. In the digital world, as with film cameras, the lenses make a huge difference in the quality you get.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

Having moved from a full frame camera to the Fuji X system, I was worried that a good quality wide angle would be hard to find... I was wrong.

This lens is fantastic, fast to focus, great IQ and a perfect wide solution for my new Fuji kit without destroying my bank account!!!

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

After reading the tests actual reviewers had written I was ready to give this lens a whirl. Some may think it odd that one would buy into the Fuji X system just to get the lenses, but that is pretty much what I did. I am happy with my choices, Fuji optics have a well deserved reputation.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

I got this lens for times when the 18-55 was just too bulky. Even with the hood in place it is fairly small on the X-E1, and without the hood the whole thing is really small. The lens focuses quickly, and the f/2.0 max aperture is nice when the light level drops.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

This lens produces excellent images on a Fuji X-E1. It is the smallest Fuji lens with an aperture ring, but still looks oddly bulbous on the camera. The aperture ring is rough. It feels almost like metal grinding on metal. Some people like that because it is harder to turn by accident, but it feels cheap to me. I prefer the silky smoothness of the 35mm lens.

On the X-E1 this lens focuses faster than the 35mm, but it is still no speed demon.

Overall, I was delighted by the image quality but disappointed by how it feels.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

This lens is the best among the only-so-so options for a wide angle prime on the X-E1. The bad: It never gets sharp in the corners and near the right and left edges, no matter how much you stop it down. However, most other wide angles -- such as the Voigtlander 15mm f/4 I tried it against -- exhibit "smearing" toward the edge of the frame that is much worse and makes them useless.

The other cons are the huge size: It looks comically large attached to the svelte X-E1, and detracts from an the rig's overall compactness, which was the body's selling point for me. The "pancake" designation is a bit, shall we say, optimistic. However, the positive tradeoff here is that it takes 52mm filters, which I had a nice collection of from my DSLRs.

The good news is that it's very sharp in the center, and unless you're a pixel peeper or blowing up to 16x20 or more, you are not going to care about the corners much.

Construction is solid but somewhat distressingly light. I personally prefer older, heavier manual focus lenses, but I have no qualms with the build quality for the price. F stops click nicely.

Focus-by-wire is not as smooth as true manual focus, but it's very useable. And despite what some say, you can indeed hyperfocus this lens for street and candid work--you just need to experiment a little. I found setting the focus on around 15 feet in the finder at f16 produced good results. Write it on a notecard and keep it with you if you need.

Overall, for the price it's a very competent lens and the best option for wide angle on the Fuji X bodies.

I took about 100 shots today in windy, bright west Texas mountain environs.
Overall, I liked the way the lens worked and operated. Focusing was fast (new firm ware) and my previews of the photos this eve show sharp images.i have not run them through photoshop yet.. So improvement will be made.
Overall, I am very impressed with this camera and the 35 mm lens I originally purchased... This lens does not disappoint in comparison. I really was impressed with this lens utilizing the panoramic mode in the camera. Very nice!

The "27" mm coverage is a wise choice for a carry around lens. It is a first rate piece of optical ware.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

I recently aquired the 18 f2 XF R lens from Fujinon. Focus speeds are fast and usually dead on even in lower lighting conditions. JPEG images are very good with very little noticeable image quality decline at the far far edges. I real life, very little to worry about stopped slightly down. Raw conversion with PS CS6 is much better than expected. No visible distortion, PS has done a good job with the software correction of the lens distortion. You should have little or no problems with ACR conversion.

If you have the 35 f1.4 and find it is a little too narrow, this is a good lens to have and better than the 17mm Tokina 3.5 Nikon mount I have been using before getting this lens.

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

Sharp and sweet, light but solid, this lens looks like being the good equation between many factors. The final quality is very good, even in night conditions.

Sometimes autofocus losses itself when subject is too close or too dark (but the camera looks guilty, not the lens). Lens hood (moving half a millimeter when fixed) could be improved. And would a correct and useful package have a definitive price impact ?

Comments about Fujifilm 18mm f/2.0 XF R Lens:

I bought this lens to go along the Fuji X Pro 1 I recently bought. I was looking for a small and fairly light kit for travel. This lens is well made and very light. Focusing speed is decent. Works well for still objects but not for sports like many others have reported. A great companion for the camera. The only thing I noticed is that in non-macro mode you have to be careful on where you focus because if you are too close from your subject it will catch other points usually on the right of the central focusing point. Macro mode works well. Colors are great. I would had prefer something that would give me a 35mm equivalent but 27mm equivalent is not too bad. Pretty much distorsion free. As a light travel kit it works great.
