I had been searching for a product such as this for months. I was beginning to think one did not exist. I finally stumbled upon the Petrol Digital Recorder Pouch. I was instantly sold.
Once I received the product I was pleasantly surprised at the build quality. It is a very durable material and construction. Being a film student, I am constantly using my Zoom H4N and therefore using the Petrol pouch constantly.
My Zoom H4N had been dropped on 2 different shoots because my boom operators had such a difficult time trying to hold the boom, operate the recorder, AND having to hold the Zoom. They have thanked me repeatedly for purchasing this product as it has made their lives and mine, so much easier.
THANKS PETROL and B&H.

I wanted a good field solution for housing my Tascam DR-40 (which I love). I ordered the Petral PS615 based on its marketing claims that it was designed for use with this product, which I believe it was. It's tough, though not water resistant– open sides offer no protection from rain.
Here are three issues that keep it from working for me:
1) The front panel's window doesn't seem to fit as designed, and blocks visibility of the DR-40's battery level. Not good.
2) I had high hopes that I would be able to clip or otherwise fasten the pouch to my belt upside down. This would allow me to read my recorder's LCD screen right-side-up without having to remove the recorder from my belt and flip it around. Unfortunately, this pouch does not have this flexability. A design oversight?
3) The transparent top flap designed to cover the mics is not removable and can not be taken completely out of the path of the Tascam DR-40's onboard microphones. (This is not an issue if you soley rely on external inputs.)

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
It's universal so you've got to wiggle the recorder a bit to get to some of the side controls but that's forgivable.
The various ways of attaching to a pocket, belt, bag is very handy.
I only wish I had one of these when our sound guy dropped my first recorder (TASCAM DR40).

I bought this for use with my Zoom H4n. While the unit fits nicely the band placement gets in the way of the controls, line out and power receptacles. Otherwise, very sturdy and has a nice wide clip for plenty of placement options.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
I really like having my Zoom h4n in this during a shoot. Easy to hold. I like the flap covering the external built in mics. Some of the straps can get a little in the way, but really not a big deal. I can access all the controls and inputs that I use fairly easily. The toughest to access for me is the mic level control, but still very workable. Belt clip is nice, including Velcro strap to hang on stand. Well made product, that was well thought out.

It's really good for carrying my Tascam DR-40, the only thing is that you can not use a wind screen on the internal mics but it's a great buy.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
After the Zoom H4n to hit with filmmakers, everyone wondered if there was a specific case for him. Luckily I found this item in BH. The cover has a smooth finish and openings for all ports on the recorder. Very interesting.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
Great for strapping your DR-100 to your belt or pants. It's a snug fit, has a plastic cover should it rain, and alleviates having to keep finding pants with a big enough back pocket every time you go out to shoot.
The only downside is that you can't access the wheel or input setting while it's in the holster.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
It's not perfect by any means, but it does the job of holding the recorder. Unfortunately, it's difficult to change any settings on the recorder without disconnecting all of the cords and removing it from this pouch. The clip seems a little awkward and the velcroed strap in the back? I'm not sure how useful that is. Really, I'm not sure now that I even need it just because I'd rather have my recorder either on a tripod or hanging upside down from my belt so I can see it better, with access to the buttons and switches and knobs without having to remove it entirely.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
I use this with a Tascam DR-100mkII, and it's a pretty snug fit. The clear plastic screen on the front allows you to access many of the features. It fits snugly on my belt, and as a documentary filmmaker, that provides a nice added level of flexibility. I usually use the XLR outputs on the Tascam, and they're accessible through the bottom of this pouch (though again, the fit is extremely snug). Some problems I've noticed:1) It's almost impossible to spin the front dial on the DR-100mkII through the plastic screen.2) Cannot access buttons on the back of the recorder through the fabric.3) Some of the fabric on this pouch covers the top portion of the screen.4) [$]seems a pretty high price for cloth and plastic.Problems 1) and 2) aren't a big deal if you set everything up before you begin recording. Problems 3) and 4) are somewhat more annoying.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
The DR-40 fits into okay and any cables you might want to plug in will fit but I couldn't find a way to attach it to my mixer bag that would result in a usable combination so I returned it. It would probably work fine if you need something to afix to a belt.

Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
I bought this so that I could wear my Zoom H4N or Sony PCM D-50 on my belt while shooting video with my 7D. It works great and offers protection from the rain and bumps. High quality construction. Perfect accessory for these recorders.
Comments about Petrol PS615 Digital Recorder Pouch:
I bought this "pouch" for my Zoom H4n. It fits VERY well. It is apparent that this case was designed for the H4n (unlike other brands). It has elastic sides, that provide a snug fit. Almost every button, input and output are accessible. Three things are covered by the case... the menu button (but it's still clickable through the elastic band that covers it), the REAR 3.5mm mic jack, and the bottom power input.
The rear mic input is totally covered, so be warned if you rely on this input. As for the bottom power input... you may be able to force the band that blocks this port over, and squeeze in your DC power, but I haven't tried it yet. That can be a big deal for some, although I personally run on batteries most of the time.
The clear (nylon?) front is not too thick, making it easy to press the bottons on the H4n.
