The Canon WP-DC44 Waterproof Case For PowerShot G1 X Digital Camera is a durable underwater housing for your PowerShot G1 X digital camera. It is designed to protect your valuable investment against sea water and sand. The housing has a depth rating of 130' (39.6 m). Its built-in flash diffusion plate helps prevent glare for improved visibility and ensures even underwater flash illumination. This case lets you take advantage of the camera's Underwater mode, which enables you to capture images beneath the surface with minimized backscatter.
The housing's mechanical controls enable access to the camera's Macro Mode and to its wide-angle shooting capabilities. Macro mode is ideal for extreme close-up shots, while wide-angle shooting is designed for situations where you want to get closer to your subject while still fitting everything in-frame. The camera's wide-angle lens cuts down on distortion caused by the water between you and your subject, thus producing greater image fidelity and quality. The case also permits access to your camera's Stitch Assist Mode for panorama shots.
A versatile housing, the WP-DC44 can also be used above the surface, in environments where snow, sand, excess humidity or dust could cause damage to your digital camera. This works well for a point and shoot camera. I was happy to be able to use the flash though once you turn the flash on you can't turn it off until you take the camera out of the housing again.

This housing is great for underwater photography. The new design of the diffuser is great for macro photography. The new diffuser has been used by other housing manufacturers before (Olympus in their PT-023). It is so much better than the ones on the G-11 &12 housing where the port cast a shadow on the macro shots. Easy to load the camera into this housing also and plenty of room for disscant packs. Used to dry up the internal moisture in the housing.

Be sure to read instructions and prep the gasket. I was surprised how well and easy to use it was. If traveling on a plane store unlocked as the change in cabin pressure will make it hard to open if the case is locked closed.

Putting a G1 X inside this case is about the cheapest way to get DSLR image quality in a wet environment. It's surprisingly solid, easy to install the camera, and all the camera's functions are accessible. I wasn't aware the manual controls would be accessible, but using the "S" button on the camera while using up/down and left/right direction controls allows you to change aperture and shutter speed in manual mode. Also, the Pelican 1450 isn't really the best fit for this case. The Pelican im2075 is a much better fit: a little taller and good gaps on the front, back, and sides. The 1450 is too big and barely gives the case any headroom.
I'm very glad I bought this case. I don't dive much, but this will be great in the rain, at the pool, or out sailing.
