Comments about Sony PCM-M10 Portable Audio Recorder (White):

I use this recorder to record podcasts from my mixer and to record thoughts as well.

I love Sony products. The design of the recorder isn't too bad. There are switches and connections everywhere, but it doesn't feel chaotic. The buttons are laid out in an easy to use layout.

The audio quality is very solid, I would say it is on par with other recorders at this price level, if not, slightly better.

The menu system is my favorite part. It's easy to use and easy to understand. That's really where this device beats out some competition.

The different options to help control audio quality are useful and actually help. The sensitivity, for example, is probably the most used option for me.

Battery life is AMAZING. I bought spare batteries witht he unit and still haven't needed them after recording just over three hours of audio. This includes downloading the audio to my computer via USB.

The built in speaker isn't too great, but the headphone jack has very good output. Also, the mic passes through to the headphones during recording as well.

The casing is made of plastic and can feel a little cheap sometimes but not to the point where it may break. It still feels sturdy overall.

Comments about Sony PCM-M10 Portable Audio Recorder (White):

My minidisc player has finally become unreliable so it's time to trade up. I've used the M10 only a few times to tape live concerts but it has proven to be just as good and better than the minidisc. Solidly built with nice tactile buttons. The quality is great but I'm no expert. One negative, however is the poor editing functions. You have to make the t-marks and THEN go into the menu to actually cut the tracks. You have to do this BEFORE you can delete those boring silences between songs and sets. There is also no beep sounds when inserting T-marks like there was on the minidisc. I used to be able to edit shows while lying in bed, driving my car or doing work without having to look at the screen. The editing shortcomings are my only reason for giving 4 stars. Also, there are some stupid buttons like a speed button. Who needs a hard button for that? Just a throwback to old mini cassette players, I'm sure. Give me a T-cut button instead!

Comments about Sony PCM-M10 Portable Audio Recorder (White):

Sony's long experience with portable audio decks has culminated with the PCM-M10 model. In my opinion this white model is most attractive over other colors.Absolutely quiet mic input that's free of all digital system noises present in most all other portable decks regardless of cost. Mic and line inputs are virtually overload proof. Although I mostly use Manual record level for most material, this Sony has an Auto-Level –Control working almost perfectly with even music recording without audible artifacts. The low voltage (2.5 volt) Plug-in-Power feature perfectly powers best-of-class Sonic Studios Stereo-Surround mics, and is only one of two models doing so (the other is Sony's PCM-D50). Running for over 20 hours on 2 AA batteries the PCM-M10 is without shortcomings of any sort for both amateur and professional purposes.

Comments about Sony PCM-M10 Portable Audio Recorder (White):

I video tape stage productions and I use this recorder in conjunction with a Sony D-50 to record the mixer feed from the audio source.
The sound quality is great and it will run for 19 or 20 hours on battery.
The only downside is when you add the track to the timeline, you have to drop about 1/2 a frame every 10 minutes or so to keep it in sync with the camera audio track. Great value and I'd buy it again
