The Polaroid 49mm Neutral Density Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing a reduction of about 1.3 to 8.6 stops. The ND 3x to ND 400x density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

It works, but my lens hood won't fit over it on the Sony VG20. Still, for the price it is fun to play around with.

Comments about Polaroid 49mm Neutral Density Fader Filter:
I wanted to try an ND filter, but I had no idea which one or how much to spend. I saw this fader and asked B&H what they thought vs. others. They said this is a good way to start and then invest more when I know what level of blocking I really need... After ordering I looked up some reviews on-line. They were generally very poor for this fader. But I find that it IS a very good start. It works as described. Maybe a bit soft, but I can get some very good experience at a low investment. I really appreciate B&H's great advice!!
