The Polaroid 58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing a reduction of about 1.3 to 8.6 stops. The ND 3x to ND 400x density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This lens filter works great, I use it to shoot river pictures with a slow shutter speed during the day. It is not the most expensive ND filter out there, but it seems to work great. The only downside is that my lens cap soesn't seem to fit securly on the filter. Doesn't really bother me because I don't keep the filter on my lens all the time.

Comments about Polaroid 58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter:
I bought this Neutral Density filter for my 28mm EF Lens for use on my Canon 7D. I bought it for shooting video with small apertures (1.8) on really sunny days. Works well and has a solid construction. Great product for the price.

Comments about Polaroid 58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter:
Indoors with a flash it seems to work fine -- although the maximum variation in density occurs over a small range of rotation. Outdoors in the sun it's unacceptable: Both facing towards and away from the sun, when you rotate it into the range where the density is highest, you get a huge dark blue cross across the scene! So it's only usable, in direct sunlight, at lower density settings. Outdoors in open shade it seems to be OK. One final FYI: Although the rear threads are 58mm, the front threads are 62mm.

Gets an X pattern at full darkness, but works well enough of me to get about a 5 second exposure in bright sun.

Can't beat it at this price point. It even appears to be multi-coated.
I got this for a Sony camera I shoot infrared with and can not change aperature or shutter speed in that mode, so this changes everything for exposure. I use to have to switch out NDs to adjust exposer, a real pain.
This is the perfect solution for me.

Comments about Polaroid 58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter:
This is a great filter to be able to dial down the exact amount of light you wish to block. If you're shooting outdoors and you can't easily control the light, ND filters are a must. This filter allows you to select different amounts of light without changing the filter.Cons:Outside diameter is larger than 58mm (to prevent vignetting I assume) so your lens cap doesn't fit.

Comments about Polaroid 58mm Neutral Density Fader Filter:
This is a great filter for my 85mm prime. If you are shooting towards the sun, you absolutely need to use a good hood as the sun washes out the filter and its very noticeable. You can smoothly change the ND strength if light changes in the middle of a shot(video). It's a bit jarring with a video camera as you have to click through the strengths.

I use this filter both for video and photography on my canon 60d. It has been quite the life saver on really bright sunny days allowing me to shoot video @ 24p shutter: 1/50th at f2.8 giving me my desired Depth of field while still remaining sharp edge to edge. As for photography it has really improved my landscape photography.the filter gives me the advatage of wide apatures and long exposures to give me the best smooth water effect. overall this filter has really improved my game.
