The ExpoDisc Neutral White Balance Filter allows digital photographers to quickly and easily set an accurate custom white balance. Each ExpoDisc is individually assembled, calibrated and certified for neutrality in the visible spectrum, and for 18% light transmission. The ExpoDisc can be used on-the-fly to set a white balance in-camera when shooting JPEG, or later in post production when shooting RAW. Using an ExpoDisc to set a custom white balance results in consistently balanced color and eliminates many of the yellow, red and blue color casts commonly seen in digital photography. The ExpoDisc is easy to use. Setting a white balance with the ExpoDisc eliminates many of the inconsistencies and inconveniences associated with using white balance cards and targets, including unwieldy size, unwanted reflectivity, improper angling, and shadows. To set a white balance with an ExpoDisc, simply take a photograph of the light source (incident light) through the ExpoDisc, then follow your camera's instructions to set the camera's custom white balance. Because the ExpoDisc is calibrated for an 18% light transmission, you can also use it as a reference tool for manually determining proper exposure. The ExpoDisc is available in a variety of sizes to fit most popular lenses. The ExpoDisc does not thread into the lens; instead, its quick mount design can be pushed-on and popped-off to facilitate a quick white balance. ExpoDiscs do not screw in. They lack front threads and were designed to be pushed-on over the lens threads in order to facilitate a quick white balance.

I had been using a grey card to perform my WB's. When I bought the Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 I spent the money and bought this on impulse that day. Best impulse buy I have ever made! It takes a little to get use to as it's tad different from how you use the grey card. I have used it on my 50mm as well to balance works awesome! This makes a great present for the holidays or birthday, but you or the person you get it for will not be dissapointed!

I like using the ExpoDisc for shoots when I have the time to take the reading- using it for the wedding portraits inside the church. I've found that it's difficult to use in the reception venues since the lighting conditions change depending on where I am in the room. Overall it a good product when the lighting conditions don't change within the room.

Work great when photographing portraits however not as useful when doing weddings or children when things are constantly moving and the light with it. Works great for multiple light sources that can confuse the camera. Not great in lower light. Pricey for what it is

This is the easiest way I've found to custom white balance. Much easier than packing around a gray card. I ordered the wrong size, so it doesn't mount, however it is just as easy to hold over the front of the lens, snap picture and then use for custom balance.

Owned this since December of 2012. I rated this item for how I use it and my style. Reasons why I only gave it 3 stars.
#1 the build of the disc itself is okay but cheap for what the price is. The piece you attach the included cheap lanyard to comes off the disc. Good thing the disc was still in my pocket which made me wonder how it got lose the disc wasn't spinning around in my pocket.
#2 Hassle to have to remove my lens hood then reattach it. If they can just make it attach to the front of the lens like a lens cap then that would be easier to use. From my experience the disc sometimes falls off the front of my lens if I am not holding it.
#3 For the price of what it does I do not feel it is worth half its price. I had the difficult situation where I thought this would shine because this is what I bought it for. 2 different light sources on the bride. One from door and yellow light from the ceiling. Was not happy at all with what I got so stopped using it since. Maybe I should even have given it 2 stars.

As a pro wedding photographer I've tried in vain with other white balance caps. The expo disc is my saving grace. As it says on the box "it nails it first time" saving time consuming photoshop editing. Do your self a favor and get one ASAP.

I use the Expodisc in my studio for accurate white balance. At first I had a few problems with it attached to my Nikon D600, but after asking the manufacturers tech department for clarification, was quickly shown that it was in fact my misreading of the directions that was causing the problem. I highly recommend the Expodisc and definitely the support staff at ExpolImaging

So far, I used the disk mainly to adjust white balance when shooting indoors under mixed light conditions. While the "auto" function of my camera often had its own interpretation of color cast, the use of the expodisk resulted in the colors exactly to be as they were at the scene. The use is quick and easy, the bag it comes with can be mounted conveniently to your belt, or you can wrap it around your neck.

Comments about ExpoImaging ExpoDisc 77mm Digital White Balance Filter - Neutral:
The Expodisc is fast, easy and accurate. I've used white balance cards and 18% gray cards to balance color; they work fine but they have to be placed correctly and angled correctly, and they can give different results if there's a glare or a shadow falling on them. The large cards, which are easier to use, take up quite a bit of real estate in a camera bag but the Expodisc will fit in any bag. It's pretty expensive but if you decide to go this route the results will speak for themselves. Highly recommended.

I recently purchased an ExpoDisc after seeing another photographer with it. I absolutely LOVE IT. Long story short this saves sooo much time in Photoshop color correcting.
It's as simple as snapping onto the end of your lens (make sure you purchase the largest filter size you will need. You can go down, but not up...ie a 77mm will work on a 52mm filter size, but not on an 82mm filter size). Snap a quick shot facing into the light that will be hitting your subject, and set the custom white balance.
It's extremely acurate, and definitely worth the cost.

I like to use the disk when I feel i can't trust the automatic white balance on my canon mark 5 due to surrounding color saturation. The calibration seems to be accurate and it is well built. The problem I have with it is that it does not connect to the lense very well so It falls off constantly and i end up attaching the disks strap to the lense and when I am done using it, it then dangles off the camera. I really dislike things hanging from the camera when I'm shooting so I probably won't use it unless I have a place to pack it away.

After years of shooting and all my indoor pictures coming out yellow and grainy I for the first time actually last night used this and the difference was AMAZING! My bathroom light is very yellow, image turned out as true color and not yellow after using the Expo disk! It's very easy to use and carry. Comes with a strap for carrying. Can't say there is anything I DONT like about it! I also think it's much more convenient than carrying around a gray card. It totally rocks!
